Try melee Sparks once you have a melee damage loadout with a cricket bat.

If you have any familiarity with the history of mercenary armies in Renaissance Italy knowing this about EVE's player-run mercenary companies isn't surprising. :lol

Quote
Interestingly, what I found is that most of the mercenary corporations are all blue to each other [ed: at peace with one another]. Thus, if one has you wardecced [ed: has declared war on your corporation] chances are 9 out of 10 of the other merc corps you contact will refuse to help you as they are friendly to your aggressors.

Also some player apparently made everyone go crazy thinking that CCP was trying to manipulate the economics of PLEX (a F2P currency you use in-game to pay for 30 days of game time) by margin trading at an absurd level.

Listening to the Undertale OST and that's pretty fucking rad. I know the designer/composer used particular samples from other games for specific tracks and maybe I'm overreaching there but he manages to run the whole spectrum of styles common in classic and japanese games (There's a track with a Namco ring, one that is a bit of a medley of what you would expect from Sega games, stuff like that). It's all over the place but still homogeneous.

Booted up Wipeout Fury for the first time in quite a while and had a decent session (some personal bests on a track in SL and TT). I find that Wipeout pretty deep to be honest, and not just because of the many tracks or piloting mechanics. According to online rankings, I'm decent against the clock (by far my favorite thing to do) at least until the highest speed but I suck hard at the Zone or Eliminator races despite having some grasp on the piloting and tracks. The SP campaign is chock full of stages to clear as well and some of the gold medals have pretty tight requirements even on medium.

It's still by far the most satisfying title I had on PS3.

(Servers for rankings are still up, BTW).

I really don't like the combat heavy stuff in wipeout. it's fine that there are weapons in races, but the modes structured around that are all way worse for it. I've done all the race/time trail campaign stuff on elite tho  8)

My favorite thing about that series is that it's a ground racing game where the vehicles behave more like objects in flight. (Air racing is lol.)

Well, WD has been around since the Turbo days... what finally sunk them was spending so much time retooling and reprogramming a Goemon PS2 game, but constantly getting rejected by Sony (it never did get released). Sinking so much money into that game at the expense of not translating any others. Vic is back with Gaijinworks and have put out a few games (Summon Night 5 and Class of Heroes series, both on PSP).

working designs had a ton of problems to say the least, but I'll still defend them to a point because in the early nineties they were one of the only companies out there putting real effort into translations. i mean at the time it was rare enough to get a translation that was just coherent, but putting some real personality into it (even if some of that personality was shit) was damn near unheard of

They localized bad games and no one bought them. I agree that in some respects they were trail blazers, but they also dressed garbage in premium packaging.

That said, for a long time SCEA actively subverted the publishing of games that didn't showcase the dogshit graphics on PSX and PS2, so it became increasingly difficult for Working Delays to even get their bad games to market where they could fail.

We missed out on Metal Slug 3 here for a long time because of that fucking bullshit. Fuck SCEA and fuck Sony lickspittles and their fucking "Sony is all about the gamers" meme. Suck my fucking roacket lawn chair.

my problem with Gaijinworks is Vic must have alienated every single publisher in the entire industry. there are so many games he's always "looking into" but nobody wants to work with the dude. also nobody was asking for him to spend 5 years hyping random crap like Summon Knight and Class of Heroes as big gets.

we wanted Tengai Makyou dammit!

I actually like the mode where you must score points by doing damage better than the all the Zone ones but there's some ovious issues with it, chiefly that it encourages you to slow down or even camp which is a bit of an heresy to the core gameplay. The standard race already hit the sweet spot for me. All the new modes added with the Fury expansion are on the fluff side, by far the best thing about it is the new tracks, but the variety is welcomed in single player.

Vanilla is really fun as an experience (at the Black Garden) but it's a wasteland as an MMO.

Seems like I have to buy the ultimate edition to unlock the DLC now? I'm sure it's a better deal but I don't like buying vanilla again.

Yeah it has 130 cars and 30 tracks, or so they said (please correct me) ? Honestly it was perhaps the best thing to do to get rid of all the terrible baggage the series was carrying in GT5 and 6 (though it is a spin off title, who knows what they'll do with GT7). I loved the feeling of GT5 but honestly couldn't be arsed to grind a garage, as a potential future PS4 owner, I'm way more interested by a more pick up and play semi sim. If the final release date is not delayed, trimming all that fat managed to get Sony biggest franchise only three years in the cycle of their current console, and with a livery editor at last.  :lol

Its weird how Gran Turismo used to be THE prolific racing game on consoles. And now its just another sim racer thrown onto the pile. The franchise needed a huge overhaul or direction change after Gran Turismo 5.

Something like a story mode would've been interesting. Starting as someone that races in city streets, moving onto racing at tracks where you can independently register or sign up, onto professional racing outright.

Or even a owner mode where you manage a racing team. Decide what vehicles to get for your team, which drivers to hire, pit crew/mechanics, competing for sponserships.

Honestly, it really didn't help TOCA. I mean it was nice, but when a racer is stale (even if the core driving isn't), it's stale.

They ran a live stream of it and it was an absolute trainwreck. They were running a game over LAN and cars still had lag and warping. Even the live stream had massive slowdown and screen tear and the game doesn't look all that hot in the first place. Also the vacuum car sounds are back, somehow.

I guess at least they are getting the beta out in November.

It was still like that in 5 and 6. And then they hired someone who used to be on Forza's sound team and it's still like that for GT Sport.

The stans at gaf are howling mad and trying to convince people it doesn't look and sound awful. Even though Project CARS easily eats it for breakfast in visuals. Even if it's a youtube cap, this is the difference in builds. What a mess.

They kinda tried that with the B-Spec mode, but in the end it felt shallow and gimmicky, like pretty much all of the extraneous stuff in GT5. The problem with a "manager mode" is that GT was never a robust enough sim of actual motor competitions (licenced or imaginary) to really support it, IMHO.

For all the shit we gave GT, I'm not certain the core tenets of the franchise are so outdated. It has gotten a bit stale and tired, but there was no helping that once GT wasn't the only game in town anymore. I'm sure the franchise will continue to sell decently no matter what, if only by virtue of the PS4 leading the market...

Ultimately the loss of good will lies completely with Polyphony and just how warped its dev process seems to be : The car sounds still being a laughing stock after a decade of fan demands is one of the major examples and you'll find similar complaints about IA, damage model & collision physics, no livery editor, the absence of line starts & real qualifying or a solid online (though GT6 online mode apparently tried to adress those latter issues)... despite PD promises and the standard set by competition. Plus the scandalous asset disparity and planning management. But heh INSANE PHOTO MODE !

What the fuck happened?
Guess they're not starting you off with a used clunker in this one. Also, this may as well be called Forza.

:lol

I remember people critizising this in GT3. Last one I played was GT4, and it's still like this? :lol
