Would not call them VNs at all, although Disaster Report 4 has more talking than the others. They are escape from disaster adventures with player choice. You run from stuff and interact with people and do weird funny shit.

They're jank and not very good games, but they have charm.

i played that telltale game of thrones game and man what in the fuck

i somehow got the absolute worst ending imaginable. like everything that could go wrong did, in an ending so shitty that most games would require you to make as many bad choices as possible to see something comparable. i go online to read about other people's frustrations, and learn that what i saw was in fact the only available ending in the game and everything goes wrong no matter what lmao. i guess they wanted to keep it in the spirit of the show by having the good guys fail or something, but oh my god was that completely unsatisfying.

it also made me realize that all those feelings of powerlessness, of having no ability to chose an option that i liked during gameplay, was by design. i normally roll my eyes about "your choices don't matter!" complaints against multiple-choice games because it seems like people will be disappointed unless you're allowed to do literally anything, but in this case your choice really do not matter in the slightest. so many times during the game i did everything i could to avoid a bad situation only to have the other characters accuse them of doing something bad regardless and no way to argue against it. instead of feeling like every event happened naturally because of my choices it instead felt like everything was happening in spite of my choices. even the small choices you could make to affect later scenes instead did nothing this time around. any choice you made was instantly negated by the story the writers wanted to tell.

the whole experience was incredibly frustrating because there was almost no reason to give the player options at all. and to top it off the story didn't even offer any real resolutions, so the entire thing felt like a huge waste of time. ugh.

Hmmmmmmm...

I hope it's a great game. I love the gameplay of Max Payne 2 particularly. Really the only game where quick save/quick load scumming was actually fun cause I would just mess around with the physics and making the shootouts as cool looking as possible.

That dubious honor has to go to Phoenix Games. Their games didn't end up in the bargain bin, they were developed for it.

Yeah I know Phoenix is notorious, I've just got a chip on my shoulder about Telltale, as well, the games were supposed to be good. I did enjoy the Wolf Among Us as in interactive comic book and a good chill out interactive experience, but man those critically acclaimed Walking Dead games blew ass. The very existence of "Tales from the Borderlands" makes my blood boil, as the Borderlands games have some of the worst lore, world building and characterisation in the business. Again, these are supposed to be good. I don't know where I'm going with this.

I feel like they could have kept the gravy train running if they focused on fewer higher quality games with maybe like 3-4 possible endings and set it up so that 2-3 of them were substantial twists on the same ending and 1 was a conclusive end that couldn’t be continued into season 2.

But they came out with new ones so fast the mask fell really quick.

Might grab an NES mini as well, they are listings near me for 30 bucks. .

The appeal to me was to go back to WoW where the actual world was a thing and it wasn't just a que lobby thing. The wow classic era was for sure one of my favorite games. Just being in that world felt like an adventure and no game has ever come close to the feeling of exploration and sheer scale that WoW had. But at the same time, don't think I have the patience or time for non party finder or at least the way the Party Finder was back then.

I mean I love FFXIV, but at the same time I don't really care about the overworld or MMO aspects. Other then going through the story and taking in the pretty visuals, that game is me logging into the game and que for dungeons or bosses. The stuff I actually like.

I may try out WoW classic because well I loved that game, but yeah I also remember that even as a high school student it took a while to hit max level and yeah I'm not into that.

You need to play the Famicom mini. Even shorter controller cords and the controllers are to scale too on top of that.

Yes you keep the UI. You can even change the skin, or the music (I put the WiiShop on mine).

You can install Retroarch, or use Nintendo's emulator - which has a surprisingly good compatibility rate (maintained by me)

Feel free to ask any questions if you want to go this route because it can be a little confusing at first.

It sucks but it's fixable with extenders, making it a non-issue. NES Mini rules as well btw - though now that there's a SNES mini it's like why bother, we have the good machine now

As someone who had never played an MMO at that time ( to be fair WoW was the only really cool or good one ), at that time it was an amazing experience.

Now? I doubt if I'll go back to it I'll enjoy it the same way.

Running around those elven forests (cant remember the zone name) and doing quests, talking to people grouping up to fight boses etc was awesome.

Tedious in a lot of aspects, but it was like I was playing Phantasy Star Online x 10000

I played WoW from launch up until Lich King. You’re week of wow is pointless and irrelevant to me.

It was never a bad game. Any QoL feature that any modern mmo or even online co-op game has probably owes its life to that game.

Few mmos then or now ever matched the scale or expanse of that game. FFXIV’s world can’t even breathe without having to be chopped into loading screens. Wow’s world feels absolutely seemless.

You can complain about quest design, but that’s any MMO and really ignores that end of zone quests, dungeons, or quests lines like Onxiya(whatever that dragon was) felt epic and more rewarding then most single player games. And more team oriented then most online games

Classes felt unique with talent tress offering some actual personality. Shadow Priests was a terror in PVP.

The world events and constants add ons that game has drawf any gass today. Adding battlegrounds I remember was an actual huge deal. I logged in and it felt like the entire world population was there to join up.

Yeah, WoW was in no way a bad game. You want a bad mmo. Play Guild Wars 2.

Exactly, and to me that was the best part of old WoW. Running around just asking folks if they wanted to group up to get some quests done.

Now everyone is autistic and doesn't want to communicate, instead just run dungeons with rando's and burn through them as quick as possible.

Old WoW also had an huge amount of atmosphere. If you were using dial up to connect yourself to an entire different world, that shit blew my mind really.
