After reading the reviews on Splatterhouse, it's more apparent than usual that the only three things Namco's good for nowadays is Tekken, Galaga and Pac-Man.

Don't worry though, Namco's just killed its internal dev capabilities so they can't hurt you anymore.

Here's the thing about a banned 360. Certain games need specific updates, right? If your 360 is banned how will you be able to download such updates to play your games?

The theory just doesn't work to me.

Plus, given your tastes I just doubt you'll get much out of the 360. It seems like it'd be a waste of money.

You can download updates with PC and burn them on the disc,or just use usb stick

But that is all pretty pointless because every game disc has the correct updates...you just put the game disc in,it automatically updates your dashboard,game plays...few seconds process

Also 360 is surprisingly the most weeaboo "big" console

Magus' tastes mostly skew towards jrpgs and the occasional plaformer, though. ps3 has more unique jrpgs that he would likely get a lot out of on top of a slew of action adventure games.

I wasn't suggesting ps3 because I'm a ps3 fanboy (I'm really not), but mostly because I think magus would get more mileage out of it as a game system.

I never suggest blindly. If he were someone who was big into fighters or 2d shooters I'd certainly suggest a 360 over a ps3. But that's not the case. Suggesting something to someone expecting them to like it when their tastes lean in another direction is foolish. I have no allegiance to game companies, but to games, magus is in the same category.

If he wants to pirate XBLA he needs a JTAG... which are more hard to come by than a regular flashed box.

If he wants to hack a PS3, he will need one thats jailbreakable... you can run games off HDD. However some later games need the new firmware, and are requiring hacks and such, afaik. You are also just as blocked from going online as you would 360.

For 360, at most you will be blocked from going online and getting title updates. I dont believe you can just download these, maybe you can, I'm not aware.

Both are way beyond magus affordability though

well i would really like to play both mistwalker games,final fantasy 13 just to finaly see if it sucks or not... maybe i can rack some other random averagish rpg (like infinite undiscovery and the such) and uh.... maybe bayonetta? maybe i could give a spin to more western developed game? or get some capcom stuff like dead rising?

Which one? there is Burnout Legends (also on DS, but that version is awful) and Burnout Dominator (also on PS2).

anyway, I thought Burnout Legend was really good.  It's a 'best of' the first three Burnout games but is most like Burnout 3.  I haven't tried Dominator.

Ubisoft has instituted a novel measure to combat freeloaders looking to pirate the DS version of Michael Jackson: The Experience: it's figured out a way to make hacked ROMs play a vuvuzela chorus over the classic Jacko tunes.

Tiny Cartridge spotted a YouTube clip that shows a pirated version of the game rendered unplayable by the obnoxious buzz of the South African horn. Not only that, but crucial on-screen prompts aren't displayed either.

In a not-so-surprising turn of events, it appears as though there are more problems with the 360 Dai Ou Jou patch and it has been delayed again.

Mihara says that at 11pm Japan time, on December 2, 2010, Microsoft finished tests on the patch and informed him and 5pb that the patch causes the game to crash once it has been installed. He goes on to explain that the original game was developed in an old development environment, and transitioning that to a new development environment is difficult, hence all of these continual problems.

He states Cave is helping out, and if they can find a solution to the crashing problem it will be released in 2 weeks.  I have heard him say this many times over the last year, so I would not get your hopes up just yet. Still, he seems optimistic because Cave has a lot of experience in this area.

Kinda skeptical on BC:R2.  I hope it turns out well, but I fear it's gonna fall apart on the devs attempt to "update" the series.  I actually get a sorta Metroidvania vibe from that trailer, which is really bizarre.  I've been drinking a lot of cough syrup though.

I guess it can be, but I wouldn't call Mega Man or Contra platformers either. They're as much side scrolling action games as they are platformers. It's like the distinction between action games (Ninja Gaide, DMC, Bayonetta) and action/adventure games (God of War & its clones).

Well basically what I'm getting at is shooting automatically disqualifies a game from being a straight platformer to me, unless it's a power up like fire flowers in Mario or something.
