Got pretty far in Last Story on my day off yesterday and this evening. If I wasn't playing in 2 hour timeslots during the week, I'd probably finish it tomorrow. But as is will probably have it done by the end of the week.

Looks like the game is about 20 hours for the main story with about 5-10 hours of optional stuff. I'm ~13 hours now and 80-90% done. Game is short because the story is short/small-scope and the world is tiny (1 town/island), but also because it's paced like an action game ala, ME2/Gears where you run run run and fight while you're doing it and watch cutscenes. It feels like you're playing a Michael Bay movie (and the story is just as dumb).

Definitely doesn't seem like the rpg-savior ff-killer that nfans want it to be. But it seems like a solid experimental rpg. Like RoF but a step below. But Wii still has Xenoblade so nfans can hold that up high (assuming it ever comes out in English).

I really hope Sakaguchi doesn't retire though. The genre is starved enough, and anyone trying to innovate is needed in the industry right now. Plus you can't discount that Sakaguchi charm

it depends how "open" it really is. ideally, the world will be very small and there will be almost no traveling involved. on the other hand, if it winds up like a bethesda game i'll probably throw up a little. but that's a nightmare scenario.

One of the things I like about the current smaller titles DoubleFine is working on is that, well, THEY DON'T TAKE FIVE YEARS TO COME OUT. Last gen we got the very darling but late and somewhat lost-dutchman-like Psychonauts. This generation, it felt like we were only going to see Brütal Legend, and maybe get a sequel on the Xbox 720 or PS4. Instead, we're getting a couple friendly titles to tide us over while they work on something else... and maybe it won't take 5 years to come out.

I would have liked more Brütal DLC than there is, but that's also got to be hard to rationalize. Just the cost to get it through QA is not going to be covered by the potential number of buyers... $:-\$

I doubt Dark Souls will end up anything like a Bethesda game. King's Field was open world and it was fucking awesome. Opening Demon's Souls up is a return to form, really.

I got my disc drive to work again ...by removing my hard drive and loading a disc that way after which it loads fine even with the hd attached again. My main wish for the next gen of home consoles is that they actually fucking work.

Gaf is going back into fanboy hivemind again. Between the Nintendo fans going crazy in 3DS threads and becoming incredibly desperate in their attempt to make every remaining Wii game the "BEST GAME EVER" & Sony fans going nuts in denial at the Sony BS machine behind the PSP2 "demos" and Sony 2011 lineup...I feel like Xbox fans are the only sane ones left at the moment. Then again I don't read Kinect threads so maybe they are insane over there as well.

Like in the Resistance 3 thread, a few of us try to give some constructive criticism about the hud and the response is a flood of fanboys who strike down any criticism with personal attacks and claims that the footage is PERFECT and there cannot be a single flaw. Same bunch of people saying the same thing in The Last Story thread. It's becoming gamefaqs over there all over again. New gen shifts always bring out the worst in gaming forums that aren't EB. In the middle of the generation, the winners/losers are decided and everyone stops caring about totting the company line. Even Wollan had been tolerable over the previous year or so.

I kinda like that, to be honest. It's better than everyone pretending to be neutral and incredibly transparent in doing so. Ideally the people wouldn't be so dumb, but I admire the honest, as crass as it might be.

anyway, does anyone know a site that lets you download high quality trailers and stuff? gamersyde doesn't seem to have direct downloads anymore. Gametrailers is pretty bad quality and the other major sights make you pay.

BlazBlue CS is great. Even if you don't like fighting games, the story in it is pretty entertaining and the joke endings are amazing. Great graphics and music too.

That reminds me that I forgot to buy the Valkenhayn DLC while he was on sale. Fuck

I'll be clapping when it bombs. Gaming should never be arduous unless the person buying the game wants it to be. If I ever needed to play a game to feel accomplished, I'll probably just shoot myself.

I assume the bolded is a joke, considering Demon's Souls' success is the whole reason this game is being made. But some people like challenge in games. For everyone else, there's Nintendo and big budget AAAAAA blockbusters.

Yep. Armored Core 5 and Dark Souls are both getting PS3/360 releases in North America and Europe, but they're both PS3 only in Japan.
