spring 2012 would be more than two years after BbS.  It's certainly a reasonable amount of time to have a finished product ready in, unless you're Squ....uh oh.

still more time than what it's taking for XIII-2

Playing RE4 again on the PS2.

tsk tsk

So Xenogears is sitting around. I've had it since high school, but I've never finished it. My old PS1 memory card is long gone, so I'd have to start over. Is finishing this game worth it?

even tho my sad 15-yr self loved the shit out of that game, i'll say no.  no it is not.  unless you really feel the need to play a slow-ass 80 hr rpg that's filled with tons of stiffly-translated dialog, tedious scenarios, and an unfinished combat system.

It is as it's still the best story in an jrpg.  HOWEVER, best to play on an emu so you can speed up stuff, use save states, use cheats at endgame to skip grinding for money.  Also it's best to play it in Japanese because the dialogue doesn't SCROLL LIKE MOLASSES, but unfortunately it's in Japanese when you do that :(

I never finished the US version when it originally came out, and only finished it about 3 years later when I played the JPN version with normal speed dialogue.  Plus the translation is kind of bad in the US version :\  It's too bad SE didn't work with Takahashi to do a Tactics Ogre style remake with a brand new translation and sped up everything.  It's still a top-class rpg but those aspects bring it down.

i'll second the use of an emulator - not only for the dialog speed-up, but also because the game's graphics are pretty good and they'll look a million times better in hi-rez.

anyway as a kid i loved it,but playing it recently i just found it to be a little too talkative, still the music is awesome, the graphics are awesome and so much cool stuff happens that it still should be considered a PSX classics

it really should depends on where you stopped playing the last time,if you already finished the first CD,you might as well watch the rest on youtube

I played something like that shark shooting date game in Korea (must've been by the same people). We were shooting giant spiders in the desert and there was a huge ass screen in front of us and a huge ass screen behind us, and the jeep we were sitting in would rotate . It was cerrrrrrrrrrazy. We had no idea what was going on and then we got something lame like 75% compatibility based on how we shot spiders.

New Nippon Ichi ARPG for the PS3 called The Witch and the Hundred Cavalrymen.

The game is a dark fantasy action RPG
The world is open and seamless -- there won't be transitions between town and field
The game will have a high degree of freedom -- the world is like a sandbox where you can do anything
The visuals are fully 3D. The perspective is from above.
There will be a packed main story with over 30 hours of play
There will be lots of sub quests
There's no game over. But, if you die, you lose your items
There's lots of blood, and the game's visual expression is dark. However, they won't be going too overboard with the grotesque.
You can choose to side with good or evil
Nippon Ichi is not using the experience it gained from making Disgaea and other titles. (Make sure you read that carefully!)

Wonder if this is just being published like that one game where they said they were embarrassed to have published it afterwards.

Definitely doesn't sound like their main SRPG team, their Prinny team, their B srpg team, their port team, or System Prisma.

No company comes out and says things like that.  Instead, they debuted the PS Vita by showing a bunch of PS3 games allegedly running on it, which got people assuming.  The Vita is not going to have the raw power of the PS3, but it's within the ballpark, at least, and may actually end up yielding generally better results due to a less complicated architecture.

i see.

Quote
Sokuho has provided a detailed summary of Dengeki PlayStation's reveal article for Nippon Ichi's new PS3 title The Witch and the Hundred Soldiers, filling in some of the blanks from our earlier report.

First up, some clarification about the characters. As we reported earlier, the main character is a witch named Metallica. You don't control her, though. You control a soldier named "Hyakkihei," a name that translates to Hundred Cavalryman or Soldiers. The Hyakkihei is actually one of 100 Hyakkihei soldiers. Metallica can only physically summon the one, though. The others are used for only brief periods -- see below for details.

The story of The Witch and the Hundred Soldiers is set in a forest where a war is being fought between the beautiful marsh witch and the ugly forest witch. One day, the marsh witch finds the legendary Hiyakkihei, and summons it into battle.

The marsh witch is Metallica, the title witch (she's also the character that Nippon Ichi showed when teasing the game at an Akihabara event a month back). She hopes to get rid of her long time rival, the forest witch, and fill the world with marshland.

The Hyakkihei soldier has a small frame but wields a large sword. It has great power but has lost most of its ability to cast magic. It's also lost the notion of morality and will do brutal things in battle. It seems that it does not fully accept Metallica as its master.

Developed by the Prinny team, The Witch and the Hundred Soldiers is an action RPG that's played from an overhead perspective. Set in an expansive and seamlessly connected world, you'll face off against enemies directly in hack-and-slash style gameplay.

Dengeki details five gameplay systems:

GIGAcal
Metallica must use magic power to call out the Hyakkihei soldier. When this depletes, you restore it by eating, intaking GIGAcal (hint... the "cal" probably is meant to be like calories).
Field
Your base of operations is Metallica's house. Leave the house, and a massive world will expand around you. Its full of enemies and gimmicks that must be solved. You can expand the world by wiping the darkness from areas that are engulfed in darkness, although it appears that this requires a considerable amount of GIGAcal.
Call Upon the Other Hyakkihei Soldiers
You can call upon the 99 other Hyakkihei soldiers for brief periods. One example is Tochika, which sends out slime-like creatures into the surroundings.
Subquests
Take on quests from residents. You can also refuse requests and can even attack residents if you feel like it.
Boss Battles, Special Attacks
You'll face off against giant bosses, making use of a variety of special attacks, some associated with particular Hyakkihei soldiers.

Nippon Ichi CEO Shohei Shinkawa mentioned a number of additional points in an interview with the magazine.

    * They're aiming for a refreshing, smooth action feel. They're also aiming to balance the game so its difficulty isn't too high.
    * The game is stage based, although once you've cleared a stage you can go back to it and find paths to new stages.
    * Once you've exited Metallica's home, you can't return back until you've reached a save point. If you die along the way, you'll lose the items that you've collected (this appears to be where the earlier reports of dungeon crawler elements came from)
    * The Hyakkihei soldier is undead, so there is no game over.
    * Using the 99 other Hyakkihei soldiers is a key to strategy.
    * The game's world is seamless -- there's no loading even when going into a town.
    * The world residents have tribe-level parameters. If one particular tribe hates you, they will treat you like an enemy.
    * The game's main story will have a play time of around 30 hours. This does not include sub quests and other elements.
    * There will be item collection and item synthesis components.
    * The main Hyakkihei soldier is meant to be the player's in-game self, so he won't talk. In terms of story, Metallica is the central figure.
    * The game's monsters are being designed by the Prinny development staff.
    * They're considering releasing download content.

The Witch and the Hundred Soldiers is due for release in Spring 2012. It will be released in standard and limited forms. The limited version includes a visual book, a soundtrack CD, and a Metallica Nendoroid Puchi figure with removable hat.

a while ago, they released a pic of a witch character and said that it was related to an unrevealed game so it turns out this is the game that it was related to

Quote
As detailed then (see this story), Niikawa revealed the game to be an action RPG with character designs from Takehito Harada and music from Tenpei Satou.

Microsoft files for swappable smartphone accessories patent

The patent, filed back in March 2010 but published this week by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, describes a future phone that would have a detachable slider. Such a phone could have a feature that would allow it to accept one of several different accessories. Microsoft suggests that those secondary parts could include.  "... a battery, a virtual keyboard, one or more game controllers and one or more devices that can operate as mobile phone handsets. The first device can wirelessly communicate with more than one second device simultaneously."

Microsoft offers up some other examples for future smartphone designs. One of them could allow for " ... two displays on two separate devices. The separate devices can be attached and the two displays can be used as an integrated display or the devices can be detached and the devices can communicate wirelessly with each other." A future smartphone could also serve as a media or content server wirelessly connected to other devices.

Combine that with this

TOKYO (Nikkei) -- Microsoft Corp. MSFT +1.10% will make video games for its Xbox 360 system available for play on smartphones, a move likely to influence the strategies of rivals Sony Corp. (SNE, 6758.TO) and Nintendo Co. (NTDOY, 7974.TO).

The software giant is mounting a response to the rise of gaming on social networking sites and mobile devices.

Microsoft's new online service will make its worldwide debut as early as next year. It will feature new games for play on smartphones and tablet computers running the company's next-generation operating system, tentatively named Windows 8. Movies and other digital content will also be available.

Microsoft will create tie-ins with the Xbox, such as allowing players to continue console games on their phones and to use their phones as controllers for their consoles.

Samsung development tablets that MS gave away to Build attendees two weeks ago are pretty powerful--1366x768,4GB RAM,64GB SSD,i5 CPU
They are only slightly behind consoles....integrated Intel HD3000 GPU,but that will change quickly

Wonder if this is just being published like that one game where they said they were embarrassed to have published it afterwards.

Definitely doesn't sound like their main SRPG team, their Prinny team, their B srpg team, their port team, or System Prisma.

according to this site i'm reading

The game's monsters are being designed by the Prinny development staff.

The game is stage based, although once you've cleared a stage you can go back to it and find paths to new stages.

i know nippon ichi wouldn't surrender to the sandbox overlords :bow

Ok, then I think this is the team that did Prinny 1/2 since those were stage based action games.
