pc games were freaky once the graphics improved enough.  Wolf3D was another that freaked me out, but that I learned to love. 

I remember one of the space quest games giving me a near heart attack when the aliens found the player.

Well, it should be obvious why all of those games are much better than some euroshmup. To be honest I'm not even sure why Raptor is being compared to them, since it was clearly designed for home platforms. Compared to an arcade game (or a home game designed like an arcade game), they're really nothing alike.

Maybe I'll take Raptor more seriously when I can find a superplay DVD and some world records for it.  That'll at least show that some people think it's worth playing.

The Korean FTP MMORPGs of shmups.  They aren't even games once you understand the basic scoring (which is always simpler than the dopey fanboys insist) - it's more like a pointlessly obtuse puzzle you have to solve before you get to the score-grinding, like some kind of hazing ceremony for the pedos that flock to them.

Out of curiosity, which shooters have you played, and what progress have you made in them (ie. score, clears, loops, et al)? Just so I know if I should take you seriously or not.

Nono, you got me wrong - I wasn't denying I was serious serious ... I just don't hate Cave or their lunatic fans enough to continue an argument that I started about it.  Because they'll start asking about loops or scores or whatever.  Yawn.
I'm not making a list of shooters I've played, there are too many.  I'd rather play a Cave game - yuck.  My favourite to play is probably Gradius 1 or Gaiden.  For survival, not score because hahaha score.

But to call the games bad is pretty ignorant if you can't point out specific flaws. They're just not for you. (For example, I would not call the Civilization games bad just because I think they're mind numbingly boring.)

Cave games are totally games.  Until you have worked the systems out and you are just grinding for score and I fall asleep because combos are sooooooooo boring.  After a while it seems like more of a ceremony than a strategy.  Only games I can play for score are pinball and puzzle games because they're different every time.  Rank in Cave games isn't implemented well enough or something, I dunno.

monster hunter is tons of fun but as i say over and over you have to play it with other people to really enjoy it
also deciding which weapon you pick greatly affect your controls,so it wouldn't surprise me if you went with something like greatsword and tought the control sucked
