I don't know either. Maybe it's just a bad character design. Maybe it's just bad 3d modeling. I don't think any Guriallla game has great faces. The first game didn't. It doesn't matter.

Growing up, western games were never high on fanservice to me. Sure you had dumb shit like Sin Episodes, but boob physics and barely clothed women were the realms of Japanese games. And besides, PS2 western games never impressed me when it came to computer women.

But regardless, Horizon clearly is not going for having a character that is a sex pot. Alloy is not presented or written to be some waifu bait. She is a classic adventure heroine. A young headstrong girl, curious about the world and knowledge. This isn't a game I'm going for a dd hardly clothed chick.

I'm also completely desensitized to porn and anything gross to boot, but i do like things to make sense form a visual design standpoint.

Like if they had a strap-on weapon in Bayonetta, i wouldn't mind, but the cinematic mod for Half Life 2 is shit, because it's just out of place.
Horizon isn't really going for the sexy cast angle, like a Nier Automata or whatever, so this design makes sense.

I mean you can say that about Aloy, dressed with dumb shit all over.
If you remove the sexual aspect from it, most fantasy characters aren't exactly sensible in the way they're dressed, beyond the rule of cool (and some very vague sense of "practicality" in some cases).

To me, sex appeal in design is just another element of the visual language you may or may not have in your game's "bible".
As i said, it makes sense for some games, not for others.

Or the main team develops the game focused on the next gen system, while another ports it down.

I don’t think I’m going to really be sitting there trying to identify what was held back while playing and hopefully enjoying Horizon on the PS5. Besides you’re playing a what if game. Also do you really care? You have a 3080 right? And you’re excited about a No Man Sky update.

Because scalability comes with limits, especially in terms of game design, when you HAVE to design around mechanical hard drive compatibility for example.
Remember the good old "no more elevators and narrow wall passages" to hide loadings? Of which GoW 2018 was riddled, by the way.
That's integral to the level design, you can't just remove them from one system to the other.

People want next gen experiences from next gen hardware, not just 4K and 60fps bumps.

But let’s be honest. These first two year games on PS5 and Xbox started development in last gen tech. I really doubt they were going to be these next gen pushers regardless of cross gen.

PS5, at this point, is basically just the experience of playing PS4-gen games on a high end gaming PC at 4k/60fps and some graphical bells and whistles like RTX.

I think for people who've never had a high-end gaming PC it's probably pretty nice. For people that have been gaming on PC at 4k/60fps w/RTX and stuff it's kinda whatever and mostly just for catching up on PS4 BC games and the occasional exclusive or game with a shitty PC port.

I like my PS5 a lot and use it fairly regularly, but mostly just PS4 games or port-ups (Avengers, Crash 4, Tsushima, Nier Replicant) since I unhooked my PS4.

Though I am getting/going to be playing three PS5 games in a couple weeks with the new FF7 expansion DLC, Ratchet and getting Strive on PS5, so that's another month's usage. Then probably play TWEWY2 PS4 on it in July. Tales of Arise PS5 & Trails of the Black PS4 on it in September. So will keep getting use.

But will be nice when companies move on to PS5/Xbox One only.

This gen seems to be going much slower, though part of it, is probably due to COVID.

Seems Watch Dogs: Legion got a 60fps update on the PS5/Xbox Series X. Lowers some of the settings and turns off the ray-tracing.

I hated 2018, and I hated GoW3, didn't care for GoW1 but they always reel me back in because of the visuals and the hope of getting something close to GoW2 (I guess it's the RE4 version of the franchise).

PS4 -> PS5 and especially Xbox One (S) -> Xbox Series X is a big jump.

Xbox One X -> Xbox Series X doesn't seem worth it at the moment.
PS4 Pro -> PS5 is a bigger jump but still fairly limited.

Xbox One X just keeps punching above its weight.
Ray Tracing is impressive but most games aren't designed for it. Resident Evil Village was clearly made to support screen space reflections and baked lighting and then later they added ray tracing.
And while RT can look great it also removes the fine touch of the lighting artist.

I really thought that I would need a next gen machine for Village but it played great on the One X. 

More demanding open world games (Fable, Mass Effect etc.) will probably make the jump worth it.
But by the time those are out there's probably an Xbox Series Y and Z.
