played about an hour, got the hang of it pretty quick, never won a race but came in second or third a bunch of times

came in next to last a bunch of times, too, but that's the concession with these types of games

i like how power-ups can cancel each other out, that saved my ass a bunch of times

i don't like how if you spin to a certain point the screen goes blank and it resets your car, that's kind of bs to me, i lost a lot of ground in races because of that

i might buy this for the 4-player split-screen, that's so rare nowadays, and i know i can get my friends together for this

the best part is hearing people scream and curse me when i pack their shit hard, it's so funny to me i don't even want to mute

Played up to level 7 in the first mode... I found it very enjoyable, I enjoyed the somewhat exaggerated PGR physics.  The way the cars rock back and forth on their suspensions is fun, and the presentation of the game itself feels very energetic.
The tracks could be more interesting, and I'm not sure the licensed cars add much (though I don't mind them).  The shunt(red shell) seems like it might be overpowered, but then so is the red shell... Blast is the most fun.  I'm not sure how well the cars are balanced and it's kind of weird that some early cars are better than later ones (though I suppose its fair).  At least the leveling system makes losing bearable.  I don't have a problem with the aiming, I can hit with the purple things (bolts?) pretty consistently with practice.  I'll go back to and it get to level 10... try the other modes.
I'm not sure if I'd buy it at full price but I was impressed.

The more I play Blur, the more I want to play Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing instead.  Although Blur doesn't seem to have the type of vehicle imbalance that Sonic does (bikes > all).

I sort of felt the exact opposite and I was even going to mention Sega Racing as a counterpoint. Using the powers-up for me felt fun here in demo form and where as the Sega Racing demo was something that I thought was okay but didn't really have the same fun factor to me.

The Sega Racing demo sucks on 360; they also picked some of the weaker tracks in the game on both consoles.  Main game is better (smoother) and those all-star power-ups aren't available for use online.  The level design and drift system is why I like Sega Racing a lot more.

That may be the case.

It just turned out a lot better than I was expecting (Blur I mean) so that may have something to do with why I really sort of have positive feelings toward it. I honestly thought it was gonna kinda be shit.

Yeah, me too, but it still feels kinda plain and uninspired compared to other similar racing/combat games.  Like they just took PGR and tweaked it a bit, then added the combat stuff.  Fin.  I'm not a fan of the drift mechanics either.

I only had a chance to play 4 races but had a blast. There is no benefit to being ahead early in the race.  :lol
My last race I hung back a bit and made a move late to get a 3rd. I hope to play more tonight.
Maybe Boresquad can take an hour from BC2 and race tonight.  :-*

So glad I registered twice. I never got a final code from gamestop.  :maf

Ironically pixel counters use "jaggies" to determine the rez...that also means that if some game would use something like 16 or 32xAA,resolution detection will not be possible, heh

They probably should have done just a normal demo to open it up to larger audience rather than an invitation only "beta".

A quick note about two suggested changes from the community: wall riding and power-up shuffling. We have made changes to the full version of Blur based on your feedback. You won't see these changes in the beta as we're concentrating on testing networking and connectivity first and foremost. That said, your feedback and suggestions are helping to shape the game so please keep it coming!

This is from the bizzare creations blog. I hope by "power-up shuffling" they don't mean randomizing the layout of the power-ups. I kinda like how the layout is the same everytime. It's like memorizing the course and racing the optimal line.

Bizzare Creations has revealed that due to demand for entry into the Closed Beta for Blur, next week the developer will open it up to all XBL users.
It was also revealed that the reason PS3 didn’t also get a Beta, had more to do with developmental need and the amount of users on Live.

Speaking with Kotaku in its latest podcast, lead designer Gareth Wilson said that due to the overwhelming demand, it ran out of Beta keys much faster than anticipated.
“We basically ran out of code, so next week we are going to go live with the whole thing publicly so anyone can download it,” Wilson said. “We’ve been sneaking on to see what people think of it and people are really getting into it.
“Why didn’t it come to the PS3? Really because when we were doing the Beta it’s hard enough to try and get a Beta out that doesn’t crash every five minutes while trying to finish a full game.

“Trying to do that on multiple platforms at once, so trying to do a PS3, Xbox and PC beta release at the same time, it just isn’t possible.”
“It was enough of a distraction doing it for one platform. For our selfish needs, we only needed it on one platform because all we wanted to do was gather data about how people are using the cars, the power ups, the tracks, and to be honest we can get that data from one platform.
“We just chose Xbox really because it’s the platform that, to be straight, has more online users than the PS3.”
Wilson revealed that the Beta will open to all XBL users by April 6.
Blur’s out for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on May 25 in the US and May 28 in the UK.

Tried the demo.  Unsurprisingly I like the racing (since I loved PGR1-4), but I really don't need the frustration of another Mario Kart/Wipeout weapon racer where I'm getting spammed by missiles all the time.  Are you going to be able to turn off the weapons and just play it as a pure racer?

If they have a separate non-weapon 1p campaign I'll pick it up.  Otherwise, might wait for the next Bizarre racer.

There will be a non-powerup playlist in MP although that personally doesn't interest me at all. And I don't know about a whole campaign of that although I doubt it.

Hmm...

Yeah it's a solid/good weapon racer, but I think I personally hate the genre.  I try to love Wipeout despite it since I really really like the core racing of Wipeout, but I couldn't get into Mario Kart N64, GC, or Wii or any other kart/weapon racers in the last 5 years.  I just don't like being attacked while I am trying to concentrate on racing good lines.  It pisses me off.

Darn fun. Especially on the MP side. If you played the demo then you pretty much know what you are getting. The SP side is a bit of a chore and not really anything special but the good thing is that the unlocks are kept separate between modes. You don't have to play the single player if you don't want to.

I did play through sp challenges for the first boss and beat her. The SP honestly comes off as mostly a tutorial for the MP although I'll eventually work my way through it. Add me if you want a rival for the SP mode.

The MP is as fun as it was in the beta. My only fear is the MP part dying. There were only a little over a thousand people playing the MP when I just played and spread across several playlists that could get thin especially as people inevitably move on to other games.

After playing more of Split/Second I'm growing to dislike it. The first two episodes left me in amazement and I really enjoyed the game. On the third episode I discovered the game's A.I. is a poorly made mess. It seems like the game rewards luck more than it does skill from the way the A.I. uses power plays to crash you. Oh well, I wanted to say Split/Second for single player and Blur for multiplayer but this crappily coded A.I. is just too frustrating to enjoy.

Agree to disagree. Enjoy your game. I just found out that if you pick bad cars, the other racers aren't as good to compensate. What a shitty game mechanic.

Also, I'd love to argue with you over which game is better but seeing as though you haven't even played Blur and are just going along with what a select few gaming "journalists" claim, I'd rather not. I can now see why the game doesn't have a minimap on the screen of what the track looks like and where the other racers are in relation to you. If it did, you'd see how ridiculous the rubberbanding is.

demi is completely insecure about the game he picked. How else to explain him using IGN's review as defense when everyone else has been giving the game 8s and 9s?

If you think Blur is shit, then why is Split Second being discounted to $40 at Best Buy next week, not even two weeks after release? If that doesn't scream BOMBA, I don't know what will. :rofl
