They really should play this on american tv and aim it at kids (even though, you know, the contradiction being that it's not something you'd aim at kids in the states). gundam wing was a hit because it aired during the day time. I can think of only one gundam after Wing that aired during the day time on CN back in the day and it was regular Mobile Suit Gundam. Oh, and G Gundam. Bakas.

rofl Flit is baysuckly Amuro x Kamille

Finished the episode, I thought it was surprisingly pretty good. It's standard Gundam but with a younger cast than usual. I really enjoy how Gundam is  treated as a historical piece of Flit's family history. Makes the mobile suit more personal than usual. I also enjoy how the Gundam itself isn't really loaded with artillery as we're used to Gundam's these days having. When he took out his beam, I expected a saber but he had something that was more in the way of a dagger. That could make fights more interesting.

Speaking of the fighting, the fight itself was fairly great compared to Seed or 00. There are only a few blaster shots, only the enemy shot beams, and the fight ended with a well placed beam dagger to the enemy mobile suit. It was quick, with crisp animation, and improved by the fact that the UE's mobile suits aren't small fry. Compared to Seed and 00 beam spam and cheese ball tactics, this felt almost like a fight from UC Gundam.

Pretty by the numbers Gundam pilot episode, but still fairly impressive. It introduced seemingly what appears to be the main cast, and gave ample reasons to care for Flit and his situation.

I think I'm going to like this. By comparison, it's definitely better than Gundam Seed's first episode.

Ep was not bad.  Don't have to beat up Hino now.

It's PG-13 Gundam, meaning no people death.  People are dying but it's inside mechs/buildings and we don't see them so it's not like they are really dying.  I'm pretty sure that's the entire reason they went with UE enemies since Flint can blow them up left and right and it's not like he's really killing people (until we find out they were all piloted by people!).

But despite being more family friendly, it's Gundam.  The main character is actually kind of decent.  I like the idea that instead of being some random kid who MAGICALLY IS AWESOME PILOT, it's a kid who BUILT the damn unit so it makes sense that he actually knows how to use it.

Ep1 was just going through the standard Gundam ep1 tradition, Ep2 should be more interesting.

new Hunter X Hunter moves so fast compared the original anime.  I mean, the original anime had a lot of (great) filler, but in 2 episodes the new series has covered 5 episodes of the original.

it got me to go back and watch some episodes of the original anime again.  still the best shounen series.  biggest problem with the chimera arc (the one that lasted years because of his sickness) is that it was more battle-ish like regular manga.  the highlights of the series is when Togashi goes crazy with rules.

the current Naruto arc is actually terrible. really awful.  worse than Bleach ever was.  the worst part is all the foreshadowing that shows it won't be ending for a few months.

HxH anime is probably like that because I doubt it'll be 50+ eps this time around.

I'm passing on it because the Ant arc in the manga basically killed my interest in the series.  I don't care about any of the characters anymore or remember what happened prior since it's been so long.  For me, the highpoint of HxH will always be the Ryodan(I think that was the name) arc and the OAVs they made based on it.

Is the cast really younger than past Gundam shows?

Main characters:
Shiro Amada: 23
Domon Kasshu: 20
Kou Uraki: 19
Kira Yamato: 18
Kamille Bidan: 17
Rolan Cechak: 17
Shinn Asuka: 16
Setsuna F. Seiei: 16
Amuro Ray: 15
Garrod Ran: 15
Heero Yuy: 15
Judau Ashita: 14
Flit Asuno: 14
Uso Ewin: 13

Yeah, Flit is on the younger side, but so were Heero, Garrod, Judau and even Amuro. He's not an anomaly or anything. And aside from Flit and Emily, the cast is most adults and people in their early 20s.

yeah, a big part of Mobile Suit Gundam was having civilian children forced into fighting.  They still had teen issues and stuff, until Bright slapped them a few times.  I still have to watch it, but from promo material it's more that it's meant for a younger audience.

HxH anime is probably like that because I doubt it'll be 50+ eps this time around.

I think the manga was consistently good until the ant/chimera arc.  The anime adaptations of Greed Island were really slowly paced because it was happening too close to the manga.  The chimera arc picked up near the end when it became about rules and mind games again, instead of ordinary battle manga power level stuff.

Maybe it's the character design, but I figured Flit was like 12 which would make him younger than Uso.

UN-GO episode 01

A detective whose brought back from the dead solves murders with the help of his supernatural boss. It feels a bit like a mashup of Detective Conan and Darker than Black [the latter at least partially because Bones was involved with both]. Overall, a very good first episode. It introduces the character, gives us a bit of a feel for the forward [Japan in some kind of near-future post-war environment closely following unrest/terrorism], and a nice little mystery that's quickly wrapped up. Nice animation too. Also: ADULT CHARACTERS.

New Last Exile? :wtf

Yep.

Quote
On February 1, 2011, Gonzo revealed that a new Last Exile story will be planned. Titled Last Exile -Fam, The Silver Wing- (ラストエグザイル~銀翼のファム~, Rasuto Eguzairu Ginyoku no Famu?), it will be released sometime in 2011.[21] The anime will be "a new series of Last Exile [with] new story, [main] characters, and mechanical designs." Koichi Chigira, Last Exile's director, will return to direct the anime. Range Murata and Makoto Kobayashi will also return to provide the series with its unique visual style. Music will again be done by Hitomi Kuroishi.[22]

Four characters, three fifteen-year-old girls and one nineteen-year-old girl, have so far been revealed on the anime's official website: Fam Fan Fan (ファム・ファン・ファン, Famu Fan Fan?) who pilots a small-sized vanship named Vespa, Giselle Collette (ジゼル・コレット・ヴィント, Jizeru Koretto?) who is Fam's close friend, Milia il Velch Cutrettola Turan (ミリア・イル・ヴェルク・クトレットラ・トゥラン, Miria Iru Veruku Kutorettora Turan?) who is a princess of the Kingdom of Turan (トゥラン王国, Turan Oukoku?), and Liliana (リリアーナ, Ririāna?) who is Milia's older sister.[23] The story will revolve around the conflict between the Commonwealth of Adess (アデス連邦, Adesu Renpou?) and the Kingdom of Turan.[24] The MacGuffin will be Exile, but whether it is the same Exile from the original series is not known.

A partial list of voice actors playing some of the characters was released on the official website on March 10, 2011. Fam is voiced by Aki Toyosaki. Jizel is voiced by Aoi Yūki. Milia is voiced by Ai Kayano. The list also includes characters such as Luscinia Hafez (ルスキニア・ハーフェズ, Rusukinia Hāfezu?) played by Kazuyuki Okitsu and Alauda (アラウダ, Arauda?) played by Masaya Matsukaze. From the original series, Natsuko Kuwatani, Eri Kitamura and Junko Noda will be reprising their roles as Alister Agrew, Tatiana Wisla and Dio Eraclea, respectively.[25]

The new series is set to premiere in October, 2011 and the opening theme will be "Buddy," by Maaya Sakamoto. Funimation Entertainment has announced that they have licensed the series for streaming and home video release.[26] The US Premiere was at Anime Expo 2011, July 1-4. Melbourne Anime Festival will host the southern hemisphere premiere on August 26 and 27. Animax Asia is set to air this new series on a same-day telecast as Japan, making it the fifth anime to be simulcasted the same time as its Japanese premiere on the channel, after Tears to Tiara, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Inuyasha: The Final Act, and Maid Sama!. Teaser videos have already been aired on their cable TV and Youtube channel.[27]

Guilty Crown episode 01

Bland, ineffectual main characters gains mysterious power that lets him do all kinds of crazy stuff. That's the bad part. Everything else is actually really good. Like the animation, which is top-tier for a TV series, and the art [which definitely reminds of Ghost in the Shell: SAC], some good action scenes, and hints of political intrigue and behind-the-scenes stuff that will be the main driver of the plot. It's got a lot going for it and it shows a lot of promise. The main downsides are the main characters [he's from the same mold as way too many anime main characters], the forced MC narration to get everyone up to speed as to what's going on rather than having it naturally build up [which every anime seems to do], and a very minor things here and there. Still, it's the best thing airing right now.

Pantene Presents: Guilty Crown

Do we really need another main character who hates himself, mopes about not being able to "protect what's important to him" and laments the fact that he doesn't have the balls to touch some pink haired girl's hand? Apparently Japan thinks we do.

Other than that, I liked it.

THIS. I'm sick and tired of them trotting out the same basic character type over and over and over. They're always weak-willed, milquetoast, bland, and uninteresting, yet they're also always the ones that some hot girl [or girls] fall in love and/or gains some incredible power. Cue wacky hijinks [in most cases]. I mean, COME ON.

But, yeah, most everything else was great.

I think the real reason is obvious.

BANDAI/SUNRISE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT WHITE PEOPLE.

I suffer from Gundam Battered Wife Syndrome. They toy with me and abuse me and deny me pretty much everything, but I always come running back for whatever little scrap they offer up.

New Zealand and Australia just got lucky, they don't give a shit.

I love how at NYCC the Sunrise rep said that North American fans should help show them how to best handle Gundam here.... what a fucking joke. You wanna know what to do? Release your product here. I WILL GIVE YOU MY MONEY.

AGE ep2

Was good!  Show is not bad at all and all the haters not giving it a shot are laaame.  It's nothing amazing so far, but it's a solid Gundam show.  I like the colors, haha.  Plus it's just nice that all the mecha action is all 2d and no CG stuff.  I think Level 5/Hino fail horribly when trying to write adult stories like Rogue Galaxy or White Knight Chronicles, but when they just do fun kid stories like Inazuma Eleven & Layton they're pretty entertaining in a saturday morning cartoon way.  This feels more like the latter so far and I'm enjoying it.

Also about the ep:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
The AGE system is going to have to get destroyed at some point.  Takes the challenge out of any fight if he can just instantly make a weapon that beats it, lol.

Also is the girl he picked up a Tifa-like Newtype?  Or is she just the pilot of one of the enemy units so she knew the base plans inside out and knew when and where the enemy would fire their shots?  Hmmm....I think the latter is the generic likely answer, but I'd rather AGE have crazy psychic newtypes because that makes everything more fun.

It's the mad genius behind Revolution Girl Utena given free reign to splash his insanity across the TV screen for the first time in more than a decade. Storywise, it's about two brothers who are trying to save their terminally-ill sister, but, with Kunihiko Ikuhara in charge, things get very, very bizarre from there. Basically, we're talking about one of the most well-written, well-directed anime series in years. It's got an interesting dramatic hook, great art design, an excellent soundtrack, and characters that don't feel like blank slates for the otaku set. The whole thing is absolutely batty, but it WORKS.

Unfortunately, nobody's streaming it.

And if Kawamori is doing something with a bunch of singers, you'd hope it would be Macross related.

I'm skipping Frontier and just watching the movie versions.

New Macross title?

Get real, Mr. Gundam. It's nothing but otaku bait:

The anime will center around nine idol candidates who aspire to be "legendary idols," in the motif of AKB48's real-life sōsenkyō (general election) Top 8.

They're pretty different, might be worth watching both.

I don't have time to watch a 26eps bad series :P  I'll take the condensed version.

I loved the TV series (aside from some Ranka parts). The movie and TV series are almost like Escaflowne in how different they are at times.

Second movie is out this week, can't wait for my copy to get here.

Yeah.

SDF Macross
Macross: Do You Remember Love?
Macross Plus

That's all you'll ever need.

Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing episode 01

It's Last Exile, sure enough: young-ish characters who pilot two-man aircraft get caught up in a huge conflict where fleets of airships battle one another. Animation and art direction were pretty solid, some of the CG wasn't all that great [they still can't do proper CG clouds] but it feels roughly as good as the first season looked. Kind of hard to tell how good the main plot will be, but they're already talking full-scale war in the first episode so I figure that's going to play a big role. If I was just comparing the first episode of each season, the second season is a definite step down. It's just not as interesting, over all. It's still a good start though.

The most glaring difference is in the OP/ED. Generic J-Pop? Feels bad man.
