more reviews have come out in the 8 and up range saying it has great story/ presentation whatever eludes the gameplay but more likely its serviceable.

Should be interesting since i'm looking forward to the story most of all ever since that 15 minute look and Giantbomb's quick look.

This is REALLY good. Super surprised. :piss es all over Castlevania

It's not a hardcore game at all, so if you are looking for that, you will be disappointed. Combat and platforming are both perfunctory. Not bad, but no real strategy or depth or "systems" to learn. You run, you jump, you mash, you win. That said...

This game is the good parts of ICO x the good parts of Uncharted 2. I like all the characters. It has actual dialogue that doesn't make me want to kill myself. The environments and world are amazing, in both design and execution.

It's just engrossing and wonderful, and I'm kind of a total fanboy for this game.

Played up to chapter 6. Game's okay so far. Animation, graphics, art, voice work, etc. are all very nice. Combat is awful and insanely simple, but I guess that's to be expected since this isn't an action game. Not a big fan of the automatic platforming either. You couldn't fall off the edge of a platform no matter how hard you tried, it's completely predefined where you can and can't go. Just hold the direction you want, mash A, and Monkey will do all the work. Boring, but nice to look at I suppose.

Also, I didn't know this going in, but this game's yet another collectathon nightmare. Can't wait to replay levels because I missed one of the five hundred orbs. Ugh.

What was wrong with chapter 6? That was the most fun the game has been so far. You actually get to fight a bunch of enemies instead of constantly running to cover to hide from turrets. Hope the rest of the game plays like that.

WTF is up with this bad doggy achievement. I've tried this like 15 times and the dog is ALWAYS too far ahead of me on the final stretch. I watched videos of people doing the achievement on youtube, and even if I beat them to the area where they kill the dog he's still two or three boost pads ahead of me in my game. Is this not possible on hard mode or something?

Nevermind, some people in the youtube comments says it's impossible on hard. Stupid.

Just finished this. Great game. Didn't care for it too much at first, but the more I played the more I liked it. The presentation as a whole is pretty much excellent, the level design is really good, and the combat - though extremely simplistic - is still fun. I wish Ninja Theory would stick to making action/adventure games like this.

Now I guess I'll go collect all of the stupid orbs. God I hate collectibles.

I also quite enjoyed the game, but I was disappointed in the second half of the game.

The environments were much less attractive and the framerate went down the shitter.  I was playing it on 360 as well.  I can't imagine how much worse it would have been on PS3.  Every time an enemy shows up it starts to chug hard.  :(

Still, overall, it's a good game.

:piss Orb Collectan :piss2

Been stuck at 99% on chapter 5 and 9 for a while now. Fucking chapter 9 is the worst. I think I might have glitched the orb actually, because I remember picking one up in front of a mech, then pressing RS to activate the cloud and he jumped right into a bomb. Then when I reloaded the orb wasn't there. I think.

Meh, I just want to be done with this crap so I can get back to Castlevania.

This game ended up being pretty awesome.  It a bunch of problems, mostly because of how rough it felt, but I enjoyed it a lot.

One thing that annoyed me was how shit your evade move was.  Monkey does a roll and moves about three feet.  All the combat in the game (I played on hard, btw) was just charge stun attack, mash a lot, then do the focus attack.  It worked out since sometimes I had no idea what was going on with the camera clipping behind a building; positive through a negative!  The auto-platforming is actually decent decent since at times you have multiple paths.  Again, the game is pretty jank so sometimes you end up jumping to a platform and back.  Story and all that stuff was also surprisingly good.

I went into both games thinking they would be so-so.  Castlevania was worse than I expected and this was much better than I expected.  Can't wait for DmC!

actually, after playing this I'm more worried about that.  Combat isn't good and it performs sloppy even on the 360.

The ending

spoiler (click to show/hide)
breaks new ground in regards to awfulness.

For the final boss, aiming with the staff is fiddly garbage and was kinda annoying.

But that doesn't even come close to the Epilogue. Oh my god so awful. So awful so awful. PYRAMID IS FMV ANDY SERKIS!!!!!! HURRRRRRR

Seriously, most distinguished mentally-challenged ending since the Wachowskis showed up to introduce the Mega Smith final boss intro. Just cringeworthy.

It's different in this case. The deep combat is what makes DMC a great game. The only way I could see it turning out well is if Capcom handles everything regarding the combat, and if that were the case, why would they have gone with Ninja Theory in the first place? It's a complete reboot for the series and it's clear Capcom is not aiming it at the current DMC fans.

Plus it's on UE3, so that basically guarantees it won't be 60 fps. Game's doomed.

Yeah and the framerate is the worst thing about NG2. Plus, the framerate is only really bad on Master Ninja, because there's so many enemies and explosions. Mentor is fairly smooth as long as you don't skip any enemies.

Yes.  Both of those games were great.  I'd put them on par with The Show as really fun baseball games (The Bigs being more arcade-y).  Plus they had the mode where you were destroying time square with baseballs.  Canada makes Dead Rising 2 :bow2 Japan makes Dead Rising Wii :piss2

Then again, Lords of Shadow had Kojima Productions involved, right? but that game was by a Spanish dev.  Their last game was Clive Barker Jericho (never played this) so it might be an upgrade.

I played Jericho, and Castlevania is most definitely an upgrade. Jericho isn't completely bad, but I'd say it's a 6/10 game at its best. Castlevania hovers around being above average and good, so they're learning I guess.

Started playing this. The game is a canceling waveform against Dark Souls:
- an actual story
- competent voice acting
- cutscenes -- with lipsync even!
- fraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamerate
- bright colors, huge range of saturation and contrast
- bloooooooooooom
- an actual story, did I mention that? I may have, but I was really missing that in DS
- bog simple button mashing combat
- linear level design with clear direction on where to go -- and an AI partner who will tell you what to do
- Achievements actually occasionally pop

What does DS have that this doesn't?
+ Providing the player with an actual vindictive sense of accomplishment after clearing an area
+ A sense of constant tension, suspense, a feeling of impending loss

I'll be going back to DS, happily, at some point. For now, I need a brain vacation.
