i can see buying a multiplayer-focused game on day one (like battlefield 3, which is day one for me) because the communities tend to dry up in a few months, but a single player game is the exact same game on day one or day one fifty

Which is why I'm focusing on MP first. I don't see this hanging around more than a month.

Got up to like Act 4 last night. It's still fun. Very pretty game. I still have problems with the controls sometimes though where you have to hit A to climb over something or sometimes where you think you can go or slide but because there is a slight height change you can't. Those bits are frustrating. The controls and level design could definitely be improved in a sequel.

Not that it matters in a game like this but my observation on the story and dialogue is this. How odd.

I mean its odd because its really bad which isn't surprising but its bad in an odd way. Like when you see a Japanese game like this you get it because its a different culture and they just don't get our culture 100%. And other times when you see bad its just because its low budget or talent doing the writing and voice acting which is understandable in its way. But this is really bad in a deliberate way. I mean its not even satire like Duke Nukem or something. It's just purposely bad. Which is a weird concept.

So uh, since I like saving money and stuff, does anyone know a good site that would let me plug in a gaming wishlist and then would ping me once prices drop? I have bought SO much shit on the iPhone via the Appshopper program, wondering if something like that exists for games.

Got up to Act 6 last night. Not much left and will probably finish it tonight.

The game is endearing. And the campaign is a very nice roller-coaster. The important part is that even if you aren't really that into the whole do the trick shot stuff its still really fun. I honestly don't really play it at a high kill shot level but even doing it just enough to power up the weapons and buy ammo is enough for me to find it fun. The base mechanics are strong enough that its fun to do even if you aren't a master at the game or anything. The game isn't very hard either. Playing on hard but it feels like the default level to me.

And the dumbness. It's so omni-present and over the top that its actually charming the more you play. I've definitely enjoyed the game, the more I've played.

This is another one of those fucking games that gives you a checkpoint right after an encounter, instead of right BEFORE the next encounter. So when you die you get to listen to conversations and cutscenes all over again and the ammo you could pick up last time is no longer there for you.

Even better, just got a glitch where I died against a boss and got booted to the start of the level. I don't know if it's better to shut the XBox off before it autosaves again or if I should just go to the main menu... Long level too

No no, it is better still, because my ally will not appear at the start of the mission and neither will the prompt to climb over the shit at the top of the hill, so I can't play the game at all.

You can boost your anarchy levels damn easily by playing a private match alone. I made it to level 10 before I had to quit (due to the last 2 enemies not spawning) but I never had any problems and the goals are super low because you're alone (I think the first level's goal is 400 points). Also, since you're the only contributor, you get a huge boost to your level every time. In 10 levels I went up 2 or 3 levels.

Anarchy is fun as fuck. I will buy the DLC for it even though People Can Fly are fucking distinguished mentally-challenged.

Quote
EA and Epic Games have announced paid for downloadable content.

The Gun Sonata pack includes three new maps for the game's Anarchy mode and two new maps for the Echo mode.

There are also two new Leash enhancements, the Flamingo and the Pulp.

The pack, due out in the spring, costs 800 Microsoft Points (£6.85) or $9.99 / £7.99 on PlayStation 3. No mention was made of the PC version.

if you're gonna make your levels look like scattered ruins, might be a nice idea to have a clear path through them, or at least an objective screen to give me a fucking hint as to where i should be going, and don't just have my teammates disappear while you're at it

timed "escapes" with lots of dead ends, awesome way to stretch your 3 hour game out

just ran out of time in one of these and hit a glitch, character just stands there doing nothing, been stuck there for 3 minutes, top notch qa dudes

I really enjoyed the game but yeah its buggy. One time I needed to crouch to go under a spot but one of my teammates was sitting there blocking the entrance and wouldn't move. I had to reset. Also yeah if you fuck up the timed missions weird bugs can happen like here.

i enjoyed the demo way more, the score-based arcade stuff is a lot of fun, but i found the single player really irritating in parts, particularly the "sweet spot" you have to hit to climb over stuff

The climbing over stuff is definitely the worst part of the game imo. They should have designed it where you did automatic mantle moves when you hit places like that. Or just designed the areas where less of that existed when you are in combat. This ain't gears.

I found it to be frustrating because I slid alot and hitting those barriers stopped the momentum of the combat. Plus its touchy about when you can hit the A button. But like said overall I really enjoyed it.

here's another thing that's complete fucking bullshit - goddamned flail gun, even when aiming directly on someone, will stick to a wall or a corner 50% of the time instead and they'll take no damage from the explosion

also, for a game called bulletstorm you sure do run out of bullets a lot

maybe they should have called it bulletsprinkle instead

Yea, that flail sticks to stuff way outside your reticule. Including your dipshit teammates that always stand in front of you and bullets won't pass through.

I haven't been bothered by anything else though, not yet at least. You aren't supposed to have a lot of ammo because you are supposed to be using skillshots.

i never ran out of regular machine gun ammo, maybe that's what they meant - "hey dude it is a storm of bullets, not a storm of flails"

the problem with the skill shots is that about halfway through the game they start dropping all kinds of enemies who are resistant to your arsenal - some mutants dodge your leash, those bubbling blister things can only be killed if you hit the blisters, and everyone has a supernatural reaction time to your sniper rifle shots which allows them to start dodging during the bullet time (leading to some bullshit misses)

haven't checked out multiplayer yet

I never had problems with ammo myself. Especially the regular ammo. You have to pick and choose some of the charged shots that you can buy but by the end I was loaded up on those too with nearly every weapon.

Also while some of the creatures are immune to certain things as you go on, there is generally a counter for this. Like shooting them in the legs. Or sliding into them. Or the burnouts being very weak against the charged bouncer shots.

I'm enjoying it on PC but man oh man, did NVidia cock-up the driver release for this. They released a new driver specifically, then got the name of the Bulletstorm .exe wrong so it had no effect :lol

Of course, random forum folks managed to figure out a hack within hours. PC gaming!

Campaign was pretty short though. Didn't bother trying to get all skillshots or collectibles though.
