haha, was standing in target checkout and two people in front of me is this 20 something dude buying some nippon-esque video game and the guy checking him out (another 20 something dude) goes "huh, looks interesting". Guy in line goes, "oh you should check out persona 4" and drops into a two minute speech about how persona 4 is not like most rpgs out there right now, has interesting characters, allows you to mix spells or something (actually gives an example of creating a new ice spell(?)), and tells him about his let's play channel on youtube so he can check out the game if he wants.

Been taking Office 2010 practice tests recently for Office Certifications.  They set up practice and testing machines at my job and are paying the testing fees, which is awesome.  You get a nice little pay raise for completing them all and yet the majority of the people working here aren't bothering to take it, which makes no sense whatsoever to me.   

Already passed Word, but I failed the Excel Expert test two weeks ago and spent the last week grinding practice tests.  Just took one and aced it in 20 minutes.  The trainer told me to go ahead and come back in a half hour for the cert test retry.  Tests make me so damn nervous but I want to pass this already!

My suggestion is to not get a cheap video card. For general use you can use the built-in motherboard graphics. For gaming you want to get something decent that will last you a few years. If you're on a limited budget I would suggest getting a GTX 660 or similar. Try to get a model with good user reviews and low fan noise.

People do that at my work too. And it's not even technical shit. You sit in a 45 min class on a work-related topic, usually about a department and their basic tasks, and take a test. If you pass, you get a small pay increase, but you can take like a dozen of these tests, so it amounts to like $4,000 a year. Plus, when you get your annual pay increase, it's a percentage of your current pay, so your pay will be even higher. But people won't do them, and it's always people who bitch about pay and how broke they are.


The company just told us about some new special job titles with higher pay but without additional work, and one of the qualifications is that you've passed all of these tests. They only offer each test once per year, so at the very minimum without failing anything, it would take you a year, but most take close to 2 years. Now we have all these old bitches who have been in their positions forever but due to their own laziness, they haven't even started taking these tests, so people they trained will qualify before they do. Fucking lazy bitches. "I'm too busy to take those tests!" How? We do the exact same job, you've been here longer than me, and I've passed them.

I've wanted to learn the Spanish language for some time just because.  However I am a procrastinating lump of shit who apparently is not a self directed learner, in spite of the bullshit I tell my bosses.  So I thought that there would be maybe an associates degree I can get at a community college for Spanish.  Well, sure enough, out of the eight colleges and universities in my area, not a single one of them offers Spanish classes.  I was hoping I can take a Spanish class in with my MBA classes but looks like I'm shit out of luck.

Rosetta Stone might be a good start, but if you really want to learn a new language you need to combine it with other resources. I went through the first chapters of Rosetta Stone Spanish and it was pretty good for freshening up my high school skills.

I did a couple of lessons with it and stopped.  I'm just too unmotivated.

I prefer the classroom for a couple of reasons: one is to motivate my ass to learn it and second is to have an academic record that I have taken those classes.  Being in management, I know that you can put "knows Spanish" on a resume but nobody is going to give a fuck vs. having a degree in it.  At my company, the way HR sees it, is if you don't have a degree or certification in what you claim you're skilled in, they assume you're lying (probably because most people are).  Which isn't to say that having a degree means you know it and not having a degree means you don't, it's just the stupid world human resources works in.  If I do get proficient and fluent in the language, it is something I want to have down on my resume, given demographic trends and all that.

It seems like my only option is to find a distant community college (as four year school would be obscenely expensive to do this) that has an AA in Spanish online and then learn to speak the language through tutoring or immersing myself in enough of the language.  I do have some friends who know the language well enough.

I went to that Final Fantasy rave thing the other night...

First off, the locale was in the middle of Bed Stuy of all places... Luckily, there were cops everywhere...

Anyways, the rave starts and it basically feels like a halfassed version of a 90's rave with some tacked on FF references here and there (like the balcony part of the venue was labeled with a cardboard sign saying "The Highwind". The crowd was pretty ethnically diverse - You don't really see many black people at EDM events in NY but there were a bunch here, probably because of the area. Age wise, most were in the 18-21 range and a lot of people dressed like 90's kandi kids. Some cute girls there too. One kid with baggy UFO style pants and hippie dreads got flagged down by the cops for drinking a Four Loko in front of the cops standing outside and being underage... he got taken away by them, probably had some other shit on him...

So it started, and DJ Cutman opened up. He plays typical dubstep/electrohouse/edm mixed up with chiptunes.



After about 20 minutes though, the music stopped and the bouncer was yelling at everyone to go home. The party was closed down... I thought the cops were gonna bust it for drugs, but no... apparently there was an issue with the permit for the venue. So my friend and I left and since we were 20 min from Barcade we went there and I got fairly drunk, some dude and his girlfriend, both from St Louis, were buying me drinks (wtf!).

There's gonna be a Chrono Trigger and Super Smash Bros themed rave too in October, but hopefully the promotion company gets their act together and gets a venue in a better area...
