So I was giving an interview today and I asked this guy about how to solve a specific problem. He said, "Oh yeah, that'd be a calculation" I'm like "Anyone can tell me it's a calculation. Tell me how you would do it. Walk me through it." He just replied, "Yeah, I'm not going to do that."


Really I'm too nice because I didn't just end it there. I gave the guy another chance to redeem himself. Of course, when we got to the "got any questions for me?" part he asked me about the role and I was like "Welp, it's very important that in this role you be able to explain how to do things to other people, to be able to walk the client's team through solving problems. Given that you refused to show this skill, I don't think you need to worry about the role."

yeah but he walked away with the solution to the problem you desperately need solved and he might be the only one with the truly correct answer

What's a good sport/martial art for hitting things very hard?
I can only take so much of fighting against crooks, criminals and real life villians who keep on getting away with it.  The US legal system is fucking broken and there are so many abusers that slip through the cracks and the smart ones are living the Philippines, pulling all kinds of illegal shit, and getting away with it because they know how to play the game.  It's so frustrating working in the legal system if you have a strong sense of justice.  It's like being a cop and seeing someone mugging someone in front of you and every time you take a stop forward the world puts a barrier that says STOP in front of you that you can't get past.

I'm not angry in life, I don't think any of my friends, families, SOs would think so, but injustice and criminals getting away with shit and being brazen about it makes me so fucking mad.  I need something to punch on these kinds of days after work.

Honestly, if your job/life does not entail with dealing with career criminals, count yourself lucky.  Scum of the fucking earth.

Tangsoodo was great for striking. Shotokan was also good for this, but its stance policy is impractical.

Thanks, yeah I think martial arts would be a good stress reliever.  I'd try out boxing but I don't feel to good about taking lots of punches to the face at my age.

I haven't hit anyone since Jr. High!     I used to get in fights a lot in elementary school because I was bullied a lot for being short and I'd fight back.  Only fight I got into after elementary was in Jr. High once in a football game when someone thought I did an illegal tackle (which I didn't) and tackled me and started punching so we traded punches a bit and cooled off.

I finally saw Pacific Rim tonight and in retrospect all the think pieces that were penned shat out from the anus on the forehead of the media at the time of its release about how #woke the movie was because it positively depicted international cooperation (I guess they were in the can when the sea monsters unceremoniously dispatched the Chinese and Russian stereotype mechs) were so hilariously off the mark; the #woke bit of that movie was stuff like the inefficient and irrational public-private partnership with Hannibal.

But then again, these are people who think Wells Fargo's predatory mortgage division would be better if only it was totally committed to diversity in the workplace instead of prosecuted into oblivion and / or expropriated for being a criminal enterprise, so is it really that hilarious?

In the last week a friend of mine has made something like 5 posts about how the friendzone doesn't exist and people need to stop thinking it does because its misogynistic.

I was like
1) I know a TON of women that have been friendzoned by men (and sometimes other women). The stereotype is always of the "nice guy" but in reality I think this happens just as much in either gender when someone's just an average looking person. (friendzones don't apply much to the beautiful people)
2) Of course it exists. In some relationships there's going to be someone who wants to be more than just friends. And yes, that person might do nice things for the other person. It's called wooing. People do it. Whether it's buying gifts, taking them to shows, dressing sexy, helping them with problems. It's when people go overboard that's the problem.
3) I know this lady, she's never friendzoned anyone in her life so I don't really know why she keeps posting about it

Well I actually think it goes both ways. Either the person doing the friendzone or the person being friendzoned. But again, this is just when it goes overboard. But like anything in a relationship anything that really goes overboard makes it bad. I guess it's the designation of what's "Friendzone" and not. To me friendzone is any relationship where one person wants to be more than friends and the other doesn't and the person that wants to be more is trying to woo the other. I think when people say friendzone they mean the overboard kind I guess.

Yeah the person being friendzoned can be too caught up in their feelings to deal with being the friend. I do think it's used to refer to something other than just a basic attraction scenario. You tend to have friends you find attractive, but once it becomes closer to infatuation it goes friendzone.

It's all down to communication. The Friendzone does not spring into existence when the infatuatee responds to the infatuated that they're uninterested in connecting genitals. It is built by the person projecting affection onto their target while not honestly or effectively communicating their desire.

The only times I've friend zoned girls was when they were thin, pretty, over achievers who I was just trying to play hard to get with but waited too long to do anything. All because I was trying to seem harder to impress...which I realized made me a bit of an asshole. Especially after they pointed it out.

But then the only girls who ever felt the need to explain to me that they just want to be friends but then continued to flirt outrageously were kind of the opposite and I was actually annoyed they felt the need to take my affection/offer so seriously.  And yes that is my peak level of assholery in life.

But my point is treating anybody like a bench warmer to get them more into you is wrong and will inevitably backfire on both of you. And you should reevaluate any relationship that has that sort of asymmetry.

I like the plain variety too, though. Müller make them with different kinds of Müsli now. The packaging looks uncharateristically hardcore though. Half-expected a shot of vodka in these when I first saw them.

I've been interviewing and applying off and on since January and my experience so far is that if you don't hear back in a reasonable or agreed upon timeframe they've moved on to other candidates and have either forgotten to address your application or are waiting to see if anyone else bails before cutting you loose.

I've sometimes wondered how far a new theme should take it. There are already some alternative themes in the user settings but the default feels more Bore-like in its plainness so I stuck with it. Would an update keep the existing design but just make it more mobile friendly at smaller widths (larger link targets, text sizes, etc) and add a dark theme?

I should probably update my avy to APNG to avoid the light theme only matte lines around the GIF.

 Talking to online friends is definitely the closest I get to therapy as well. I thought about going in for it when I was feeling depressed, but I didn't feel like explaining my problems in Japanese, and I have a feeling that the English-speaking psychologists in Japan would have their own specific detriments, let alone being a much smaller subset from which to select competent providers.

 My nights out with my friends, and being able to speak in person, are incredibly helpful to my psyche.

My wife bought a USB flash drive off a co-worker yesterday.  I thought that was weird, because she said he told her he knew a guy who made the drives.

Sure enough, it was weird- the flash drive was $20 and was marked as having TWO TERABYTES of space.    Checked this out online and found the same drives being sold on Amazon for $7 a piece, with negative reviews saying that they're hacked/bootleg drives from China.  (The real 2TB flash drives go for $1600+!)

Turns out this is a big thing and they hack the drives to appear to have 2TB of space when you check them in a PC, but of course that's bullshit and the drives either flat-out don't work or will just overwrite files you copy onto them without telling you that you've run out of space first.

I told her to give it back to the guy and get her money back.  Which she said was no problem at all...because she showed the guy my texts saying it was fake-scam bullshit and he felt really bad about it.

they don't really compare because they do different things. the chromecast requires a phone to cast things from while the firestick does everything itself.

I like the fire stick way more than chromecast so far. Mainly due to the remote. While using your phone as a remote can be convenient it's not something I enjoyed long term.
