FML.

Number one: I bought an open source handheld. Again. Will I ever learn?
Number two: I spent 250€, two or three years ago, to get the damn thing. It arrived in the mail yesterday.
Number the fuck three: Both units sent to my place are faulty. The unit I got for my friend is ignoring certain keyboard presses, and my unit first blew out the fuses, then ceased to charge on anything but USB; which means it takes a day to fully charge instead of an hour or two.

I am this close to demanding my money back and putting it towards a NGP/3DS/iphone/Android phone/PC upgrade/hooker.

Then again... It is ridiculously awesome.

There were tears. And blood. And bloody tears. And several times it looked like the project was doomed. Perpetual emotional rollercoaster, that. Now they've been selling the things as fast as they can manufacture them. Still completing the preorders, mind you.

Back then a mobile hardware platform like that (600MHz Cortex A8 with 256MB RAM and 512MB flash, SGX powering a 800x480 touchscreen, with WLAN, Bluetooth, two SD card slots, full-sized keyboard and video out, all in one DS phat-sized package) sounded like the best thing ever.
Nowadays you get a smartphone with comparable or better specs for only a teensy bit more money - granted, they're locked-down platforms, but that has always only bothered a select few (Hint: Don't get me started on Sonys NGP).

I'm just pissed as all hell because I have this here awesome toy and can't really play that much with it because it's tethered to my PC 60% of the time - and it may get worse if the charger is still intact, which means I'd have to send it back to get a replacement, which means I'd have to wait even longer, but this time without even the broken handheld to keep me busy. Arrrrgh. All that after two+ years of waiting. Kill me now.

TL;DR: Open Source fans are Grade A Nutters. Nothing new here.

So, I'm looking at finally buying a house, in one of the suburb cities west of Toronto.

And unfortunately, shit is crazy expensive. Three-storey townhouses of 1350 square feet with no backyards going for 300k.

In contrast, I can drive two hours west to my home town and pick up a huge two-storey house with a giant backyard for less than that. A year and a half ago, my bro bought a house back there that was huge, with a nice big yard and a huge-ass two-level deck. $:-\$

Well, it's good to get on that real estate ladder but why force it if prices are too high? Keep your money working in mutual funds or whatever in the meantime.

Well, my thoughts are probably thus:

1) prices are high, but I'm not sure they're ever going to crash or get lower, so I might as well jump in when I can.

2) I don't even like where I'm living and renting now. (apartment in small town out of the way from everything)

3) I'm pretty responsible with my money, but I've already been maxing out my mutual fund investments (limited for tax refund purposes due to my pension) and as such, I'm more likely to spend the money on "fun shit" in the next six months if I don't buy a house. Not that that would be the end of the world, of course. With my existing Mutual Funds + gov't pension, I'm already sitting comfortable for my long term future, regardless of jumping into real estate. I'm just not sure that waiting would end up being more beneficial than buying now when it comes to a house.

But for big purchases, I'm always crazy indecisive anyways, so...

Being an only child sucks balls.

Being that I'm an only child, I sometimes really worry about my parents since I'm so far away from them. Sometimes I wish I had a sibling if only because there would be someone to take care of my mom and dad back home, but Houston isn't for me. Is it better to pursue one's dreams and desert your family or stay in your hometown feeling miserable? I guess that's one of life's many questions.

I'm moving to NYC in a few weeks and may even end up in DC next year to work with my cousin at his business. Houston is far away from home and my dad's health continues to deteriorate. Every time my mom says he's not feeling well on the phone, my heart skips a beat. Not only for him but also for my mom. I don't want my mother living alone.

I guess this is what we call life?
