I played the demo and it reminded me, uhhh, a lot of the first one. Are there any real significant changes?

Having to go back and forth in Dead Space was the worst part. At least with a linear progression, it allows the devs to implement more environments and events.

It also obliterates the sense of exploration, which is usually a key ingredient in these RE-type haunted house sort of games -- or at least, the thing I tend to enjoy the most about them.

edit: Although now that I think of it, aside from a few specific examples, I don't think you really get to venture out into impertinent areas all that much in the first Dead Space, anyway.  It's mostly just run here, get this, run back.

it got 9/10 in latest Edge

Quote
"The game's excellent controls and stream of grisly scares make it the current standard for survival horror, and it now boasts eruptions of blockbusting action that rival this generation's biggest games. [9]

A "harder than impossible mode" unlocked upon first completion where you only get three saves to use!

No Metroid style losing of all your weapons at the start (you get the plasma cutter, line gun, stasis and kinesis modules at the beginning)

Very much liked the original. Very much looking forward to this one.

You can only save three times or you can only have three saves when using that difficulty level?

dunno, but for a super hardcore level i would expect save three times only

This "hardcore" difficulty mode piqued my interest in this game. Someone on x360a says it has no checkpoints, along with only three saves (as previously mentioned).

And there's an achievement for beating. :bow Real achievements :bow2

What a juvenile ad campaign. Really makes the industry and gamers like myself look bad to the mass market. I would say minus one sale but I would never buy this game as I only buy games like braid which push the medium forward.
fuck the pr campaign, everybody on this forum decides whether to buy a game probably seeing the reviews or even the ads.  I don't see any reason to boycott it when the actual game itself looks solid.

Give me a fucking break. How insecure do you have to be to say "Oh well commercials like this make video games seem juvenile! Now what will people think of me"

A) They ARE.
B) Who cares?

Commercial was interesting and will probably generate interest in the game.

It's IGN so the "review" is mostly worthless. I just posted it because I think its the first one.

Quote from: IGN
I know that "linear" is a bad word in the video game industry, but the package is so well done here that I can't knock Dead Space 2

Here's an example of IGN's shitty style. Who says linear is a bad word? Some of the very best game currently on the market and in video game history are linear experiences. Whether its linear or not has absolutely zero to do with whether its a good game or not.

A really high quality 20+ hour open world game >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> A decent Linear 4-7 hour game.

I'm trying my best to play through Assassin's Creed 2, especially after all the praise, but I just find it so so boring. I havent bougth any armor or swords or any upgrades at all and the game is still pretty easy. Seems like most of it is useless and I'm just tired of it.

I'm looking forward to Dead Space 2 cause I'll feel like less of a chore to play.

On a personal level I don't have any problem with that opinion.

The argument I would make is the key point you just made was high quality>decent.

Open world doesn't inherently make a game fun.

But your complaints about AC 2 are some of the same ones I had despite liking the game. All the open world and rpg stuff in that game just seemed to be there for padding. But then sometimes I think its just about how immersed you are in the world. RDR is full of stuff like that and I loved it although its also not very necessary to the core game either. But I was just more immersed in RDR for some reason than I was in AC 2.

I mean high quality as a relative term. I think AC2 is higher quality than Wolverine, but I've been enjoying Wolverine a lot more.

Sure I get you. I mean I enjoyed Transformers the Game last year more than I've enjoyed S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Now I wouldn't necessarily tell people that Transformers is the better game. I would just say one drove me to play it more than the other based on my personal tastes. I totally can see why a lot of other people (even the large majority of hardcore gamers) would rightfully feel the exact opposite.

Yeah, I agree and I think a lot of it has to do with my slow but steady transition out of being a gamer. Games like AC2 don't appeal to me anymore. I'd rather sit with a game, play for 3 hours one night a week and have a good time. AC2 just seems like there's so much to do that's so useless.

Extraction takes place before 1... and even then it hardly matters. It does include Nicole though. Good game tho.

Haven't played Ignition, that's my plan before I touch the sequel.
