it got 9/10 in latest Edge

Quote
"The game's excellent controls and stream of grisly scares make it the current standard for survival horror, and it now boasts eruptions of blockbusting action that rival this generation's biggest games. [9]

A "harder than impossible mode" unlocked upon first completion where you only get three saves to use!

No Metroid style losing of all your weapons at the start (you get the plasma cutter, line gun, stasis and kinesis modules at the beginning)

Very much liked the original. Very much looking forward to this one.

You can only save three times or you can only have three saves when using that difficulty level?

dunno, but for a super hardcore level i would expect save three times only

This "hardcore" difficulty mode piqued my interest in this game. Someone on x360a says it has no checkpoints, along with only three saves (as previously mentioned).

And there's an achievement for beating. :bow Real achievements :bow2

What a juvenile ad campaign. Really makes the industry and gamers like myself look bad to the mass market. I would say minus one sale but I would never buy this game as I only buy games like braid which push the medium forward.
fuck the pr campaign, everybody on this forum decides whether to buy a game probably seeing the reviews or even the ads.  I don't see any reason to boycott it when the actual game itself looks solid.

It's IGN so the "review" is mostly worthless. I just posted it because I think its the first one.

Quote from: IGN
I know that "linear" is a bad word in the video game industry, but the package is so well done here that I can't knock Dead Space 2

Here's an example of IGN's shitty style. Who says linear is a bad word? Some of the very best game currently on the market and in video game history are linear experiences. Whether its linear or not has absolutely zero to do with whether its a good game or not.

On a personal level I don't have any problem with that opinion.

The argument I would make is the key point you just made was high quality>decent.

Open world doesn't inherently make a game fun.

But your complaints about AC 2 are some of the same ones I had despite liking the game. All the open world and rpg stuff in that game just seemed to be there for padding. But then sometimes I think its just about how immersed you are in the world. RDR is full of stuff like that and I loved it although its also not very necessary to the core game either. But I was just more immersed in RDR for some reason than I was in AC 2.

I mean high quality as a relative term. I think AC2 is higher quality than Wolverine, but I've been enjoying Wolverine a lot more.

Sure I get you. I mean I enjoyed Transformers the Game last year more than I've enjoyed S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Now I wouldn't necessarily tell people that Transformers is the better game. I would just say one drove me to play it more than the other based on my personal tastes. I totally can see why a lot of other people (even the large majority of hardcore gamers) would rightfully feel the exact opposite.

Extraction takes place before 1... and even then it hardly matters. It does include Nicole though. Good game tho.

Haven't played Ignition, that's my plan before I touch the sequel.

Yeah, I had originally preordered the CE thinking that was the only you could get Extraction. They didn't give me another code when I preordered the regular version, though.

Castlevania didn't.

Edit: Actually, I think on Castlevania you installed the 1st disc. That way when you got to disc two you didn't have to swap discs when backtracking.

The first was linear too. This is just more obvious about it.

Yeah, I recant my earlier complaint about them making this one linear.  After dorking around with it some through the week, the first game is absolutely linear, it just doesn't seem so much like it because you backtrack through every area, but it's often the exact same point-to-point path.

ok,some impressions(few hours in,chapter 4)

-no backtracking, you just keep moving forward
-in addition to old enemies, few new ones
-story so far is kinda non-existent(you have to come to some place, but as usual something is always in your way)
-graphically they improved some things(shadows)
-loading times are quick, checkpoints are good
-hardest(that you can choose) difficulty is ok,not something impossible(frustrating)
-you have to chose the right strategy against right enemy, when attacked in groups you can use that to your advantage

That said, game has that Bioshock 2 feel,at least to me.It's far more improved than Bioshock 2,but it still carries that familiar feel .Sometimes game gives me Bioshock vibe, when you play it you will understand.

It's a great game, very polished and fun to play, but if you are expecting something different,don't...it is certainly not like ME1 to ME2 transition

I'm only like few hours in,so I could be too harsh(in that familiar thing)

One more thing, you can backtrack if you want, unless some major disaster is in your way...game won't stop you otherwise

There is one other thing, will put in a spoiler because once you notice it,you will always notice it
It has something with game design
spoiler (click to show/hide)
Scripting
Game is full of (in)visible lines, stand in one place for hours, move a little and hell will broke loose.Lots of games use that, but the problem here is

nobody is forcing you to go forward
game environments are quite big(compared to DS1)
the same thing gets repeated room after room

So now when I come to a new place,I kinda stay in the back collecting items, hoping that I don't step on some invisible trip wire that will blow whole room apart

And when things attack you they will do it from every side

So far not.Chapter 6,supposed disc 2 change

Another update

-game is brutal
-not advisable for faint hearted people
-some of the later enemies are really fucking scary, excellent sound design
-familiarity syndrome has diminished a bit
