Obsidian's modern track record is thoroughly average for me and bordering on awful. But that's just my opinion.

But there is nothing especially "Obsidian" about this title. Anybody could have made it.

But it's written by Zeits.  Who wrote what's heralded as one the greatest videogame fantasy tales ever with NWN2 Mask of the Betrayer.

The story was lots of talking heads, static camera angles, frozen painted backgrounds. I skipped every cutscene in the demo because it was boring.

I guess what I'm saying is that even if I thought it was a good story, that's never why I've ever played a loot game. Even something like Diablo I generally had no idea why I was doing what I was doing. And I love that game. But then again maybe that's just me.

It kind of makes sense though.  When you eneter someones elses game they need you to be on the same level as them.

I liked the demo.  Few things that bugged me were the camera, the stiffness/weightlessness of the controls and combat, and how damn slow you move.  Both kinda make sense if I was playing with a mouse and it works like most PC loot games work.  For a gamepad, it just feels off.  It is surprising because this really seemed like a game designed for consoles and I was expecting a Balder's Gate Dark Alliance experience, but this is kinda between that and PC loot games.

I guess PC demo is next week or something  ???

I'm still confused by exclusive demo thing.  I've always assumed it was part of marketing to get people interested in the game.  Early demo access for preorders, like with Duke Nukem Forever, are confusing.  I want to play the demo so I can make that decision to purchase  :S

and the co-op thing is stupid dumb

It's more or less Fable 2. Only slightly more.

Even Too Human let you keep your loot/character.

Exclusive demo access is generally done in the service of marketing considerations from whoever is getting the exclusive. Pre-order demos are more dumb to me but that's generally done to appease the gamestop's of the world.

pretty good. better than sacred 2, not as good as titan quest or diablo. feels a LOT like a dark alliance/champions of norrath game, with a kinda glitchy camera. should be great for local multiplayer.

I got it for $5 during an Amazon sale, definitely worth that and more. If nothing else, it helps to fill the void left behind after playing Titan Quest, Diablo 2, and Sacred 2 until I puked useless swords and gems. It's a good, solid game, nothing really exceptional here that's going to make it stand out amongst the other, great RPGs this year, but I needed something to occupy myself with for the next couple of weeks and DS3 looks to fit the bill quite nicely.

Diablo 3 is just around the corner, dunno if you should play this now and maybe ruin your appetite for all that god tier Blizz goodness.

"Right around the corner" = Maybe sometime next year. Or not.

That's disappointing, I was hoping to tack on some more content when a sale came up. Guess I'll skip it though.

The soundtrack by Jason Graves and Timothy Michael Wynn is superb:

Wish I could find more of it on Youtube.
