Zelda Summer Marathon Play Thread
« on: June 09, 2010, 03:03:30 PM »
New Zelda will be revealed next week so I think it's time for a Zelda series playthrough.

I should be finished with Gay Tony tonight so I'll be starting a game of LTTP soon. Then I'll be playing LA, OOT, MM, and possibly WW.

Who's with me?

I've already been doing this kinda.  Beat Majoras Mask and I'm up to Ganon in LttP.  I'm kind of ambivalent about replaying OoT to be honest.

I've just replayed it so many times, and it seems kind of lifeless compared to the other zeldas.

I replay these games all year round, and it seems a bit meaningless to play them for the reveal, but I have been meaning to replay the two Oracle games.  I'm hoping they announce Gameboy games for virtual console or the 3DS or something.  Ever since my Super Mario Deluxe cart got wiped, I kinda don't want to mess with my old games thinking they'll get wiped too.  If not that, maybe an emulator.

I'll probably be continuing my 3 heart run of Twilight Princess after I get the last 2 of the first 120 stars in Galaxy. Anyone want to join with?

3 heart TP run? Good luck, sounds like it'd make the game a lot more fun.

I've never played Majora's Mask before, so I'd be up for playing it on my Gamecube.

There are issues. It freezes occasionally, and considering the game's structure, this makes playing it annoying.

I was close to finishing Link's Awakening, but somewhere in the midst of Eagle's Tower my save file got corrupted. I probably won't play it again for a while lol. So I downloaded Oracle of Seasons and Ages to make up for it, and I'm playing Seasons first. Doubt I'll replay any of the 3D Zeldas, although if for some reason I do get the urge then it will be Majora's Mask.

I didn't even know MM got ported to GameCube lol

It was ported as a bonus or something and not as a retail product.

It's on the Zelda: Collectors Disc, which includes Zelda 1, 2, OoT, MM and a demo of WW. No LTTP because LTTP gba had came out around that time and Nintendo wanted you to buy it.

Anyways, started that game of LTTP ahead of schedule. You know, I think there are better Zelda's but overall I gotta say, LTTP is definitely the funnest. The flow, the pacing, everything about it just about perfect.

I get the gamecube zelda discs mixed up.  The collectors edition one with the four Zelda games was with the purchase of a new gamecube or free from Nintendo power.  I don't remember what it was called, but there was another I got when buying Wind Waker that included OoT and Master Quest.  I think the latter came with a demo for Wind Waker too.

I'm deciding whether I should play OoT or WW first.

Played MM about a year ago so it'll probably be a good while before I get back to that.

My brother has a disc with zelda 1, 2, OoT (+MQ), MM and a winder waker demo that came with his machine. PAL though. Never froze on MM either. Solid product. :)

I might actually be misremembering. I know I've seen my brother play MQ, but it might have been on some other disc then? Nintendo would never give PAL something resembling a better product.

I've decided to join this marathon silently, I just got done with ALTTP on GBA (not doing all the Four Swords shit since I only have two GBAs) and am going to check out the FDS version of Zelda II... Looking forward to checking out what's different from the NES version.

I'm almost done with Oracle of Seasons. Some nice puzzles in this one, although the season thing is pretty gimmicky as expected. Still, lots of sweet dungeons and items. :bow Ancient Ruins :bow2 :bow Magnetic Gloves :bow2

I'm gonna play Ages next since I've never completed either. Is there any consensus on which one is better?

Famicom Disk System version. Different (better?) music, a leveling system that's more fucked up than the NES version (if you can believe that), the dungeons don't have different tilesets and bosses (iirc) and the overworld enemies look like little spermies. I am playing it on actual hardware for extra torture..

BTW, Seasons is totally the better game of the two Oracles games. Ages was kinda boring in comparison imho.
