new thread for NEW GEN GAMING

http://www.usatoday.com/tech/gaming/2010-06-14-vidgame14_ST_N.htm

Quote
Kinectimals lets you train and play with 20 different virtual cats, including a lion, cheetah and tiger.

•Joyride, a racing game, lets players use their hands to hold an imaginary steering wheel — pull your hands toward you and push back out for an acceleration boost — and their bodies to execute jumps and tricks.

•Kinect Sports has six activities including boxing, bowling, beach volleyball, track and field, soccer and table tennis. To serve a volleyball, you mimic the real motion; in soccer, you can kick the ball or do a header.

•Kinect Adventures includes a river-raft time trial and obstacle course, playable by up to four players. On the raft, playing as a duo, you and a partner must lean one way or another to steer. Jumping helps the raft reach special areas for extra points.

•Dance Central, in development by MTV Games, brings a So You Think You Can Dance experience home.

•Star Wars characters and iconic Disney favorites will be featured in separate new games being developed at Microsoft in conjunction with LucasArts and Disney.

Kinect the Dots, a drawing game, lets players use their hands to hold an imaginary pencil — pull your hands toward the dots and push away to draw a line — and use their bodies to hop around like a spaz for no in game reason.

I, for one, am disappointed Kinectimals only has cats. What about all the other animals? I don't want to wait for Kinectimals 2.

Rumor is it will retail for $189.99.

If true, then Natal Wave Kinect is the next 32X.

i think there's like a mouse race going on between ms and sony for that title

probably $50-$60 for a move wand + sonychuk, $40 for the required PSeye - you're probably looking at $150 to get started there if you want more than one person to play

Sony already stated that the Move bundle would be less than or equal to $100.

Now if Move ends up being >$100, then it's dead on arrival as well  :lol

I fully expect Nintendo to destroy both of these out of the gate.

Microsofts voice stuff will impress, but after the Xbox slim and Kinect, I don't think they will impress people enough to "win" E3.

I think my Kmart table tennis game covers the broke ass china device.  I got it in like 2003 or 2004.

Yeah.  The Wii is the best example of this.  The Wii is dragged down by more casual bullshit than any system ever, yet it still has a good library of hardcore games.  More than any multiplatform owner can be caught up on.

I believe the $150 price as well, because Microsoft doesn't really care if we buy it or not, they're going to try and push the bundles to new consumers. And the bundle is adequately priced.

Also, "winning E3" is like winning the Special Olympics - it never really matters. I remember when the GameCube "won" E3 and the Xbox was an abysmal failure, and we all know how that turned out.

Yeah, but what the fuck is with these vests? Is it part of the show?

Is it something to block a Kinect unit from picking up on the people in the crowd?

Maybe it will allow the crowd to interact somehow?

yeah, looking at the pictures being posted on gaf, I'm guessing it is so the camera don't pick up the audience.  people think that natal will be capturing and recreating the performance using avatars.

Real talk, I think Microsoft is doing something real interesting. It's unconventional and is something that sticks with a person for a long time (especially if you're there). I think they're a lot smarter than people like to think.

THAT'S WHAT MAKES IT AWESOME! :rofl

I agree with you but it's also incredibly sad.
The early games look to be Wii rip-offs, but the potential is there. Here's hoping that the rumored Q Entertainment title is that Kinect-enabled spiritual sequel to Rez I heard it was, that would be nice.

(Q Entertainment just tweeted that they will have a reveal at the Ubisoft press conference tomorrow, btw)

Regarding the new Xbox 360 design- I need to see it in person. The leaked images look kinda fugly, but it has built-in wi-fi, and if it has the power brick in the console and hard disks that can be swapped with bigger off-the-shelf computer HDD's like the PS3, I'll trade in my current X360 for one.
