Tried the demo. Only tried the cop stage. Quite dull, very simplistic gameplay. Takedowns don't feel as satisfying as in Burnout. Not my bag of skates

+1 Word.  They also make you sit through like six minutes of unskippable ads for the game and then you can't try one of the races until someone on your friends list tries the demo.   :lol

yeah, the cop mode was pretty dull

I want to try the mode where you have to escape to see if it gets good.  Usually running away is more fun in these games.

I haven't tried it but don't forget the BP demo got awfullll reactions and then the game ended up being fantastic.  So maybe it'll be similar?

Just kind of hard to believe Criterion who are the masters of arcade racing made a meh racer.  I mean all the videos have looked boring driving down straight roads in an Outrun style with bumping the other cars, but I want to believe it'll be good because BP is like my favorite racing game ever.

I liked it more than the others but its such a limited demo its hard to form a really good opinion on it for me. I can't even try the online portion which is the main reason why I would play this game with the hot pursuit stuff. So dumb to not offer online multiplayer in these demos in this day and age.

YES THIS!

It reminds me of burnout 3 takedown but mixed with NFS Hot Pursuit. The game feel's dead, not just the environment but the roads. After burnout I just expect lots of cars constantly on screen at once. Another thing there is no sense of danger or urgency, the music helps but there was something about the previous Hot Pursuit games that felt better.

I'm still gonna buy this still cause I have to have something till the best racing game in the world comes out in January.... Test Drive Unlimited 2!!!

What a boring demo, I didn't even bother finishing it.

Problem 1: Frontloaded with unskippable cutscene bullshit
Problem 2: Looks worse than Burnout and at half the frame rate
Problem 3: Driving/ramming other cars is boooo-ring

I can't believe this is a Criterion game. This is like something Black Box would have pooped out :poop

DICE is a pretty large studio and they probably will only get larger. But yeah splitting them among so many projects is a bit frustrating. Especially when I don't get any map packs for 1943 or BC 2 because of it.

What's frustrating about it? I got all the achievements just fine. NFS put me to sleep, I almost didnt even finish the race.

Split Second caught me the minute I played it, and I constantly fired up the demo to replay it. Speaks LEAGUES on how good it is.

Being in the thick of a race, only for the AI to assrape me by setting off a barrage of power plays to put me in dead last while one AI car builds up an impossible lead.

The cheating AI is worse than Mario Kart Wii. After the tenth time it happened, I gave up midway through the season mode.

But your taste in racing games is suspect anyways, so that's okay.

How many teams does Criterion have? I want a proper Burnout sequel. I know they were once rumored to be working on Road Rash but that never came to fruition.

I was bummed about the cancelled now-gen Road Rash, I hope Criterion gets a crack at bringing it back in the future.

(I think they only have one team at the moment.)

ferrarimanf355 is right that Split/Second has the worst rubberband AI ever known by man.

Which is kind of funny because NFS is the exact opposite.  The AI is rubberband neck and neck with me in the racer track and then suddenly it flashes "1 mile remaining" and EVERY CAR slows down to half speed suddenly and I fly by them all and take first by a mile  :lol

I don't really get rubberbanding at all.  Make your racer with no rubberband and multiple difficulty levels and let the player choose the challenge.  If the player is amazing, let them lap all the AI, it's their reward for being that good.  If they suck, let them turn down the difficulty until they can catch up.

I never got hit by anything in Split/Second leaving folks in the dust. Sounds like scrub-talk. Mario Kart's a different story, but Split/Second gives you a lot of chances to preemptively shut down your attackers if you're leading the pack. Use them.

Yeah, I dunno.  Either the game is like the demo and sucks and reviewers are terrible as usual.

Or the demo sucks but the full game is awesome and it's another case of Criterion demos as usual.

Might be back on the hype train.  Will wait for people to get their hands on it and see what word of mouth is.  Then will pick it up on PC if everyone (including Burnout fans) love it.

Although reading that review they're like "single player mode is pretty average but OMG FACEBOOK GAMING" so since I don't care about online and play for SP, maybe not for me.

You mean burnout 1 and 2 or burnout before paradise?

Either way its more like a mix of that Hot Pursuit with burnout style drafting bonuses and a slight bit of the collision although its really a mix of both. So I would say it has burnout like elements but its clearly not a burnout game if that's purely what you want.

I read about it this morning and thought it was a great marketing scheme; every fan and owner of this game would share this on twitter and FB.

Criterion deserves a lot of credit for it's post-launch free DLC support. If this game receives a fraction of the support Paradise god, I'll be content.

Not sure. I know if you subscribe you can get better quality videos. Not sure if that is for download or stream though.

Also I was curious so I tried this out on the PC via the usual methods. Runs very well.

Before Paradise. In a perfect world there would be an HD version of Burnout 3.

I thought the demo for this was awful but all the podcasts I listen to have people getting all hyphy for it so I bought it today.

Bought Assassin's Creed Brotherhood +$10 off card, used it on $34.99 Hot Pursuit to knock it down to $24.99. Boomshakalaka

I haven't tried the demo but a lot of people are saying that's not a real indicator of the full game, just like how Paradise's demo failed to capture the game's feel and do it justice.

Apparently Criterion sucks at creating demos.

I tried to get a feel of the this a few times. I just dont like the vehicle control one bit. it all feels way too heavy and way to loose. it's like the exact opposite as Burnout. for all I know there could be some cool set piece races in the game but the core feeling of driving cars in the game kinda sucks.

thumbs down

Is this anything like old school Burnout?

it feels and plays nothing like any of the Burnouts. if you want a precise and responsive racing game, this isn't it.

How's the PC community look for this? Seem like it'll have some lasting power?

I was playing the PC version through nefarious means as I was just curious how it would run on my system. If I was to actually get it, I would have gotten it on 360 anyway.
