Sceneman, the game is like eight hours long at most, even if you just think it's average, you won't be suffering it for long and you'll have new ammo to trash it.  :lol

.

Play iiiiiit! It is really short and compared to the ancient trash that is Phantasy Star II you've been playing it will be like a fuckin godsent holy grail of awesome.

Why is Phantasy Star so good? I've never played phantasy star game. I;m a pathetic nublet when it comes to jrpgs, I've played quite a few but don't think i've ever finished any turn based jrpgs outside of FF :lol (Nearly finished Lost Odyssey but got bored, now I'm playing ToV and it seems promising as something I might finish). I watched Sceneman play Phantasy Star II though and it looked like poop. If I was going to go that oldschool I'd rather play something cool like nethack.

The OG Phantasy Stars (the ones on the Master System and Genny) were really great RPGs that did shit wayyyy beyond what Square was doing back in the day.  Phantasy Star II's super downer ending is kind of infamous amongst JRPG aficionados.

Yup, technologically, they were leaps and bounds ahead of any comparable RPG. The original Phantasy Star had animated monster attacks, something the FF games didn't have till FF7 (1997) and the DQ games didn't have till DQ6 (1995), not to mention impressive smooth pseudo 3D dungeons and full anime portraits in cinemas. The games had lots of nonlinearity, and huuuuuge dungeons filled with twists and traps (not everyone likes these aspects though, as it made the games very frustrating for people used to super linear RPGs of recent days). And of course the stories were ahead of their time, filled with lots of depressing twists and a world that carries over from game to game, with thousands of years of lore.

I don't know if I can remember 10 games I've played from Japan.

So let's see

FFX
Mario Kart 64
Mario Kart DS
1080 (that was Japan, right?)
Ninja Gaiden
Ninja Gaiden II
DOA2, 3
running out of names, might remember more later

NetHack with movies in between each dungeon level, showing epically detailed and overblown magic effects and dramatic tableau where the ASCII characters interact with each other, emote, brood, and kill each other would be better than Final Fantasy. Real talk.

I remember playing Phantasy Star IV and my jaw dropping at all the cut scenes during story sequences.  Later on I read PSIV was supposed to be a Sega CD game and those cut scenes would have been ANIMATED which would have been even crazier.

That reminds me...Sega CD...LUNAR series.  I love the LUNAR games, especially the Sega CD versions.  So amazing.

Order is not important here

0.The Last Remnant
1.Bayonetta
2.Ninja Gaiden
3.Bayonetta
4.Ninja Gaiden
5.Bayonetta
6.Ninja Gaiden
7.Bayonetta
8.Ninja Gaiden
9.Bayonetta
10.Ninja Gaiden

That pretty much sums what i want from Japan.

He only mentioned Last Remnant one on his list, though, so if you add up the other ones cumulatively, it's the one he wants least. :teehee

Too bad Ninja Gaiden is basically dead without Itagaki at the helm. And on top of that Capcom doesn't seem to give a fuck about DMC any more either. Itagaki went on to create some westernized trash and Hideaki Itsuno was last credited in Bionic Commando 2009 :yuck. I guess Kamiya is the last hope for the genre.

Sigma 2 proved Hayashi doesn't know what the fuck he's doing.
