360 sells more than double PS3. This is the best news ever. Shame about software but nothing good has been released at retail for awhile. Bring on Dead Rising 2! Watch it tank!

The original Crackdown sold 427k units during its first month. No Halo beta will do that...

The Halo 3 beta no doubt helped Crackdown sell a shit ton out of the gate but it also had a pretty kick ass demo about a month prior to its release that got a lot of people stoked for it - myself included.

Crackdown 2 had fuck all.  No beta and a fucking horrendous demo.  Frankly I'm surprised it managed to sell as much as it did.

Meh, boring month aside from 360 dominating. DQ9, BlazBlue CS, and Crackdown 2 are the only noteworthy games I can think of released in July.

I'd guess BBCS did around 50-60k combined on PS3 & 360, with the PS3 version selling slightly more. :piss gamers

Arguably the best MP game since Counter-Strike IMO. The fact that it is still $60 is what is disgusting.

Nintendo must have spent like 50 million dollars marketing DQIX.  At my mall there are giant DQIX ads everywhere like the ones you'd see for Inception and other big movies.

If DQIX doesn't do millions, I doubt they'll publish DQX.

Ninty PR came out and they have now resort to using the "Family" moniker and combine both systems to make there sales look good  :lol

Quote
Nintendo Sells More Than 650,000 Hardware Units in the U.S. in July

Nintendo sold more than 650,000 video game systems in July – more than any other company – according to the independent NPD Group, which tracks sales of video game products in the United States. The Nintendo DS™ family of systems sold nearly 400,000 in July, and Nintendo’s Wii™ console marked its 45th consecutive month of more than 250,000 units sold with July sales of nearly 254,000. These tallies bring the 2010 U.S. sales totals through the end of July for Nintendo DS to more than 3.4 million and Wii to more than 2.71 million.

Five of the top 10 best-selling games of July play on Nintendo systems. These include Super Mario Galaxy™ 2 for Wii at No. 4 with more than 192,000 sold, LEGO® Harry Potter™: Years 1-4 for Nintendo DS at No. 5 with nearly 142,000 sold, LEGO® Harry Potter™: Years 1-4 for Wii at No. 7 with more than 133,000 sold, DRAGON QUEST IX®: Sentinels of the Starry Skies™ for Nintendo DS at No. 8 with more than 132,000 sold and New Super Mario Bros.™ Wii at No. 9 with more than 128,000 sold.

Exclusive games for both Wii and Nintendo DS this fall and holiday season from both Nintendo and its third-party publishers demonstrate Nintendo’s commitment to provide unique game experiences that are only available on Nintendo platforms.

Some Wii-exclusive games on the horizon include Metroid™: Other M launching on Aug. 31, Samurai Warriors™ 3 on Sept. 27, Kirby’s Epic Yarn™ and Wii Party™ this fall, and Donkey Kong Country™ Returns, FlingSmash™ and PokéPark™ Wii: Pikachu’s Adventure for the holidays. Upcoming third-party Wii games include New Carnival Games® from 2K Play, NBA JAM from EA Sports, GoldenEye 007™ from Activision, Just Dance® 2 from Ubisoft, Disney Epic Mickey from Disney Interactive Studios and Sonic Colors™ from SEGA.

For the Nintendo DS family of systems, Professor Layton and the Unwound Future™ launches on Sept. 12, Pokémon Ranger™: Guardian Signs this fall and both Golden Sun™: Dark Dawn and Mario vs. Donkey Kong™: Mini-Land Mayhem for the holidays. Some top third-party games coming this fall include Super Scribblenauts™ from Warner Bros. and Rock Band® 3 from Electronic Arts/MTV.

But if it was the case of X360 owners rebuying one, then you'd expect the sales spike to be in the first month and then disappear.  The fact it's been selling like hotcakes for 2 months now makes it seem like the general public has been hooked on the X360 and it's the newest hot item like the Wii was.

Well 134 for a portable jrpg with no fanbase in the usa to speak of that went up for sale in the middle of the month that doesn't have the words final fantasy or pokemon on the cover is pretty solid.

It's all about perspective.

I'm not saying it isn't good. On the contrary. I'm just sayin' that DQ8 obviously wasn't enough to start a fanbase in the west like I thought based on the ds remake sales.

I think most people bought it for the demo.

134k is par for the course for a non-FF, non-KH, non-Pokemanz jrpg. Especially when you consider it's a portable rpg, and that it was released in the middle of the month and has had crazy word of mouth. I predict 300k lifetime sales.

Except those other non-FF, non-KH, non-Pokemanz jrpgs that sell like that don't have huge marketing budgets either :P

Not a big deal, just that I'm pretty sure after this DQ will be published/localized by SE like it was before this.  This was basically Nintendo's chance to turn DQ into the next Pokemon and like their push for Monster Hunter in the US, it bumped a bit, but neither franchise became "american franchises"  :american

NoA didnt advertise or publish Monster Hunter in America. Only NoE footed the bill in their part of the world and I think NCL did the original moneyhat.

edit:
I think we need to wait another month before we call Dragon Quest either way. Pokemon itself had very humble beginings until it exploded in popularity.

Starcraft 2 did 721k...people are throwing that number in gaf thread

It doesn't include DD sales but i expect S2 sales to be heavily skewed towards retail.

Speaking of DD sales...things are moving,in UK at least

Quote
It's been a long time coming, but the UK will finally get a games download chart later this year, MCV can reveal.

ELSPA has been hard at work behind the scenes over the last 12 months convincing publishers to share data and bring clarity to the scope of PC downloads.

Firms large and small have backed the effort – Ubisoft, THQ, Square Enix, Sega, NCsoft, Midas, Mastertronic and Kalypso are all on board.

MCV understands it’s only a matter of time until their contemporaries go public with full support, too.

Sam Collins, ELSPA’s new commercial manager commented: “It is great to be working with members to build a report which will not only deliver member value, but one which will help the industry realise its potential in an increasingly connected digital economy.”

As with the retail reports, Chart-Track will be responsible for tallying the figures.
But unlike the traditional Chart-Track reports, the download chart will combine data that comes direct from publishers, not retailers.

All stakeholders have pledged to supply all sales data. Yes, even the numbers from popular sources like US developer Valve’s leading download service Steam. The site has otherwise been reluctant to align itself with any effort to share information directly.
The new digital chart will be a global first. No other territory has a similar combined list. An ELSPA working group is currently hammering out the finer details – with a target launch for November.

It’s a canny move for ELSPA. The organisation is poised to unveil its new UKIE identity and remit in September.ELSPA is also keen to get the many independent developers that publish directly to consumers via the web supporting the chart.

Chairman Andy Payne explained: “I am calling for other members to join the group as soon as they can and not miss out in helping to form and shape this important development for all of us.

“We are in the process of reaching out to TIGA and their membership and hope to have more on that very soon.”

But remember guys! The PS 3 has supply constraints!!

yes, but if you look at it long term, PS3 is still on track to claim 2nd place in 2076.

Xbots won't be gloating in 66 years time, i'm calling it now.

(how long till we get the "Who cares?! PS4 is going to destroy X1080 anyways. We all knew the PS3 was crap!")

The minute PS4 is revealed?

The PS3 is a demand constrained loser.  Sony losing $5+ billion on the thing will probably go down as the worst corporate video game industry debacle since ET on 2600.
