On what is considered one of the craziest, if not the craziest day of travel at Long Beach Airport, I managed to check in my baggage and get past security in 15 minutes. This is even including an incident where I was asked if my carry-on contained "computer stuff", I nodded in agreement and was let go.
JetBlue is awesome. The seats are spacious, every seat has DirecTV and the plane is loaded with a nice assortment of complimentary beverages. The only problem I had was my poor neighbor's set was broken, so she was forced to solve Suduko puzzles and decided to fall asleep and cuddle into me. Then she kind of got irked when I kept shuffling her off my shoulder.
I arrived at Dulles and was on the way to baggage when I saw this guy in baggy attire and this sweet, all-brown Washington Nationals cap. I complimented him on the cap and he complimented me on my awesome Redskins santa cap. We struck up a conversation on the Redskins and the Wizards, the FedEx Field experience and the RFK Stadium experience. He was tired from being on tour, so I asked him with whom. That's when he said, "Oh, my name is DJ Kool. I had a song called 'Let Me Clear My Th-'" and I stopped him right there and told him I knew who he was. We had an awesome chat about the origins of hip hop, and how we both hate the current MTV/BET scene and he said that he's been around "kids" that don't respect the culture or even know who Flash is! Blasphemous! Basically, he says it boils down to what rich, white people think kids will buy and that the culture has shifted from making music and making statements to making money. He said when the actual music talks about making music to make money, you know you have a problem.
He was a super cool guy, and we had a great chat. He proceeded to give me this kind of like, "Your my brotha" shake fist shoulder thing that I eventually flubbed up because I'm white and suck at these things.
At any rate - DJ Kool rocks.
