Well Bayonetta is relatively new, so that's why I didn't include it. Is a sequel for Bayo in the works?  I thought it performed poorly?

random thought, but wouldn't an Onimusha reboot by ninja theory (if they had to be used) have been a better fit? that series has been away for a while.

I thought I read that it hit a million worldwide--not sure how that's possible, so hopefully someone will fact check that for me.  They've teased new Bayonetta stuff and it doesn't seem like it was a one-off kind of game.

but even in their wounded states, i'd rather play the new NG and DMC games.  Though DMC will end up worse than God Of War if Capcom lets Ninja Theory handle the combat and game design.

That series did kind of die out.  I don't think Oni 3 and Dawn of Dreams did all that well...which is weird because 1 and 2 were kind of mind-blowing to me when they came out.  I should give them another try and see if they hold up.

Killing monsters with swords... yeah, not a lot of those games around.

In a Japanese setting? Well, there's always Ninja Gaiden...

I loved the first 2 Onimusha games, but I also remember how fucking frustrating they were. There was nothing worse than being in a fight only to have the camera suddenly change because you moved out of frame.

If they made it in to a 3rd person action game, it'd be Ninja Gaiden.

Onimusha 3 controlled better than 1/2 and stopped using prerendered backgrounds.  Dawn of Dreams made the series even more of an action game.  I just assumed it was popular at one time because the series even got a party versus game like smash bros and a gba game.  There was also the port of the first game to the Xbox.

Onimusha 3 was really good.  Plus it had Jean Reno voiced by the guy who played Bear in the dot Hack anime.  It was weird because I think Jean Reno voiced one version of the game.

best part of Onimusha 2 is still:

Onimusha was cooler when it had a little horror tint.

Remember when Onimusha was a tactics game on the GBA?  weird how they tried to push the game.

I never played all the way through Onimusha 3.  I remember the voice acting being terribad and the whole time travel story is so classically japabad...like direct-to-VHS movies in the 80s were fucking Citizen Kane by comparison.

But I bet the gameplay is better, so maybe I'll pick up a cheap copy somewhere.

You should stop playing Wii games and get Onimusha 4. It's pretty good.

Onimusha 4 was dreadful. Also, in PAL it came on two discs that both had the same content.  :dur

Nice jacket, Dante! Do they make them for men?

Also, I can't tell if that's a scarf or an ascot, but by the time you have to ask that question you've already lost.

I barked laughter. This is not good at 1:20 in the morning with kids asleep.  :wag

Quote
Asura's Wrath Interview Summary

Famitsu has an interview with the Asura's Wrath staff. A lot of the interview appears to be about things the game doesn't have -- it will be game with extremely low freedom, it won't have a big power up system, and it won't be abundant in items. It also won't be easily accessible -- the hurdles won't be particularly low.

Also, there will be absolutely no multiplayer or co-op
. And there's no intention of selling multiplayer play via DLC.

Capcom has their own MT Framework engine, which second parties have been using for their games. So why does Asura use Unreal Engine 3? Apparently, it was felt that Unreal Engine 3 would be a better fit for CyberConnect2.

I have a feeling there's more to this interview than the summary I'm reading on the Japanese blogs, so I'd suggest waiting for a more complete summary here later in the day.

sounds great.

Yep, saw that in the GAF Famitsu thread. Most of that info sounds pretty great to me.

No shitty multiplayer.
Keep co-op far away from my action games, thanks.
Linear levels so you are constantly moving from point A to B with no downtime; no padding the game with an open world full of nothing.
No need to worry about collecting shitty items.
Not being easily accessible is a huge plus. Not every game needs to be made for babbies.

The only questionable things in there is the use of UE3 over MT Framework, which to me sounds more like Capcom still doesn't want outsiders touching their glorious engine rather than UE3 being a better fit for a fucking japa developer. And "not having a big power up system" could be either a positive or a negative. Hopefully that just means you'll unlock skills gradually as you progress through the game instead of forcing you to grind enemies in order to pay for new moves. Or ideally, all of your skills will be available immediately.

At any rate, it looks like we've got another real action game on the horizon! :hyper
