It's up. btw.

Reminds me a lot conceptually of 1943. It would be a big loss of money if they can't separate it out and you always have to have BC 2.

But anyway its kinda fun

The biggest difference seems to be the lack of motion mines (although I'm not exactly sure I like that) and the lack of optics on the guns. It makes the game even more camperish and dependent upon squad spawning and medic reviving. The maps also seem smaller than the default bad company 2 maps.

I'll definitely be playing it but I actually think I prefer the default version of the game that shipped with the more modern stuff.

I don't know. I'm finding myself more frustrated than I thought I would be. The no motion sensors thing really changes the game into something I may not enjoy as much as I hope. And the maps don't seem as well designed for conquest as the default Bad Company 2 ones.

Maybe I'm just sucking (which I am) and I need to practice more.

Edit: I hate the color filter they always put in these games. I got use to it in BC 2 but this one in nam makes it very tough to distinguish people from the background which only adds to the camping element.

edit 2: And lots of the maps have narrow chokepoints. Which is annoying. That style doesn't really suit battlefield games.

Is it just me or do these maps kind of suck?

The Vietnam nam expansion pack was a bit of a bust for me. I think its a good value for what you get but I don't like those maps at all and I don't like not having motion mines. Games turns real campy without those and a bit frustrating since people can spawn on the squad and you don't know where they are at.

But yeah I didn't like the maps. They are very narrow and full of chokepoints which doesn't really work in Battlefield.

I've been playing more vanilla bc 2 though and enjoying that.

i forget the name but the map where one side starts and has to either take a boat or go through a kind of cave is a shitty chokepoint map

hastings is prolly the best map

I also still play vanilla more (i get weirdo hitches/studder since latest patch though :( )

anyway if you have this for PC send me a friend request my EA id is rocketsurgery

The choke point in Cao Son makes the map almost unplayable.  The internet says there's 5 maps, so maybe I haven't played them all yet.  On the other hand, the new maps for BC2 vanilla are wonderful.

Agreed on both points. Cao Son is fucking awful though. Especially on Conquest. A new map Hastings was unlocked on monday. Haven't played it yet.

Vietnam makes me appreciate regular BC 2 more.

I was playing yesterday and noticed I couldn't find a full game.

The maps suck.  They're considerably more fun on rush mode, but they don't compare to BC2 vanilla's (and every other Battlefield game's) BIG OPEN maps.  That's what they're known for, that's what the should stick to.

I've grown to like the game but I think the main reason I like it is simply for the Vietnam aesthetic and the copious amounts of fortunate son and Ride of the Valkyries that plays in vehicles.

Regular BC 2 has very few maps that I flat out hate. The expansion has a couple for both rush and conquest that I just can't stand.

So is this expansion dead already on consoles? Doesn't seem like anyones really playing anymore.

I think they made a big mistake by not making it a standalone product instead of having to own BC 2 to play it. I still can find plenty of games in it but the problem is Battlefield doesn't wait to start a round so you can have a decent amount of people on each side. You are just as likely to join a game with 4 or 5 people in it as a full game and most people just quit in that circumstance instead of waiting for it to fill up so the game will stay stuck at that low player count.

I was playing with a fantastic happenstance team yesterday that effectively moved, shot, and communicated together.  Not only that, but it seemed like the other 4 people that were playing were also worked together as a team.  We ended up losing the round but it was still a load of fun.  Those moments, though rare, are wonderful in an online FPS experience.

Absolutely. That's what makes Battlefield great. It's very fun when that is happening and very frustrating when its not. It's also very frustrating to go against a good team if you're playing with a bunch of randoms or a bad team. But the highs are good enough to hook you through the lows.
