This is a sham of a holiday created by a Marxist woman beater. For some reason it continues to be treated like it's a legitimate traditional holiday, but it has no actual roots in Africa and the damn thing isn't even as old as the Rubber Soul album.

Oh well light up your menorah... I mean kinara.

What's with the vehement Kwanzaa hate? It's just as made up as Christmas, Valentines Day, and Easter... yet I don't see such visceral hatred for those celebrations.

I'm not suggesting you guys are racist, but if you tweaked the color scheme of this page I'd think I was reading Stormfront.org.

Seriously, nobody actually celebrates Kwanzaa, so calm the fuck down about it.

And Himuro... don't be such an Uncle Tom. Like, really bro. Stop.

I'm not an uncle Tom, it's the truth. Kwanzaa, even more so than other holidays, is a total farce.

HEY WE SHOULD CELEBRATE OUR AFRICAN ORIGINS.

That's great and all, but please don't act as if all of Africa speaks one language and that we're all from one tribe. Kwanzaa is a holiday that fights ignorance with even more ignorance.

Your parents most likely haven't been to Africa, ditto to your grandparents, and yourself so holidays like Kwanzaa are a total joke. You are not African. Just how the people who have Irish blood in them for generations aren't technically Irish. What's done is done, and you can't change the past so stop acting as if you're an African deity.

If no  one else celebrates it, how am I an uncle Tom? Get your head together and your dick out of your ear. I give it shit because it's fucking stupid and it exists.

If no  one else celebrates it, how am I an uncle Tom? Get your head together and your dick out of your ear. I give it shit because it's fucking stupid and it exists.

Um...

a few things:

1. Um... my parents and older brother were born in Africa. I was born only 6 months after my mom's arrival in the states. I am very much African.

2. My grandparents are buried in Africa. All of them.

3. There is no religious ties to Kwanzaa if I recall correctly. You can be Christian and celebrate it, you can be Muslim and celebrate it, you can be Jewish and celebrate it. Hell, you don't even have to be black, or African. It is however, a celebration of African HERITAGE. Not direct family ties, heritage. It was created because many Black Americans had a desire to feel more connected to their African HERITAGE... even if it seems ridiculous to you many people, non Uncle Tom types, feel the need to have some sort of Knowledge of Self. Is an Irishman in Boston going out and celebrating St. Patrick's day absurd because he hasn't been to Ireland? Is an Italian in NY participating in Columbus Day stupid because he himself has never sailed across the Atlantic? Is a German in Philly an idiot for celebrating Oktoberfest because he's never been to Germany? Are my Chinese friends stupid for celebrating Chinese New Year because they've never been to China themselves?

The answer to all of those questions is no. They're just celebrations heritage, even if most are just an excuse to drink.

I don't celebrate Kwanzaa but I don't bash it at the behest of white people. That's straight up coonery right there.

4. Do you feel like a dumbass now? You should.

Will Smith aint black. Hes just dark skinned.

Um... Will Smith is blacker than any black person here. He won the first Grammy for rapping and he didn't accept it because his acceptence wouldn't have been televised. That's some real shit right there.

Clearly all holidays are made up however that doesn't mean we have to respect and celebrate every holiday that's contrived by some fruit loop woman beater. Yes Christmas is just a mishmash of various secular, pagan, and Christian traditions, but they have organically combined over hundreds of years into a holiday that most people in the West celebrate and love. I don't see how Kwanza can be considered to be on equal footing. If I created some bullshit European holiday called Fonzie I don't think that would fly with anyone.

Yes they are.  Holidays are inane and arbitrary.  You want an excuse to drink?  "It's Tuesday."  "I just got off of work."  "Hey, we haven't hung out in weeks."  You want an excuse to get someone a gift?  "I was thinking of you."  "I though you'd like this."  "I appreciate you."  If you need an excuse to "remember your roots" or some other divisive and equally arbitrary nonsense, then clearly your "heritage" is irrelevant to your actual real-world existence and certainly doesn't need to be sanctified.

First off the problem with your example is that Kwanza isn't an African holiday, it was created by an American. In contrast the Chinese New Year is a genuine Chinese holiday with thousands of years of tradition. And yes Drinky tradition is important criterion for distinguishing between holidays. Do you respect Abserdamderdum? No because I just made it up. All holidays start from nothing, but because they share a similar beginning, does not mean they should be afforded similar respect.

Yes. And I say this as someone who is Irish and whose grandparents were born in Ireland. Useless holidays are just excuses to have fun in some way you already like doing.

People aren't going "OMG KWANZAA LETS CELEBRATE OUR BLACK PAST!" and then contemplate on their history in Africa for hours.

The few who do probably celebrate it likely do the same damn things people celebrating christmas/festivus/chuanakkakakakakaka do. Go out, have fun, get gifts.  :lol

But what do I know? I am whiter than white, and never had a black friend.

Good morning and Merry Christmas!

All holidays may start from a blank canvas, but the finished product does not warrant equal consideration. I am fairly confident that if that if some white, American, woman beater invented a European holiday, specifically to compete with Martin Luther King Day, you'd have no trouble dismissing it and calling it a farce. This is not an example of "what's wrong with them silly Negroes", but an example of what's wrong with them silly white liberals. Often you white liberals treat blacks like they're children. "The black man pooped a holiday out of his ass, isn't that cute." Tell me how a holiday can authentically celebrate such a diverse continent like Africa which is home to so many languages, religions and ethnicities? It's a contrived, meaningless, inauthentic holiday.

"why can't they just observe our arbitrary seasonal holiday instead". People can celebrate what they wish, though the vast majority of blacks don't celebrate Kwanza. However where people are free to do something, I am equally free to mock them for doing it.
