I think I'll like this more than Deathsmiles.

This is out only two weeks before Dodonpachi DFK too. Would have been nice if it had some more breathing room, but I guess November is Cave month.

So this is out. Finally got some points to buy it with today, and I played for an hour or two.

Overall, game's pretty awesome, but it has some weird issues. The friends leaderboard is fucked up; you can only view your friends' scores if they are online I think. They also "localized" the screen where you enter your initials by removing it completely. Well done, Cave! Not to mention, TATE is broken on CRT televisions, which is another thing that's really strange. I also can't find any options to adjust frame delay, so for people playing on an HDTV, they're pretty much stuck with some input lag.

But other than that, the game's great. Arcade mode is still hard as fuuuuuck; Blue mode seems pretty similar, maybe a tad easier (wasn't it supposed to be harder? Doesn't seem that way to me), and Xbox 360 arrange mode is pretty much like most Cave arranges: An easy game to relax with while you soak up a fuckton of points. I like it.

And of course the aesthetics are excellent. Great soundtrack and amazing art work. Joker Jun is the king.

Actually forget what I just said about achievements, you can get the 50million point one in 360 arrange mode. The 50pt achievement is "True Diabolical Power! - Destroyed Amagisu's final form without taking damage." Still, I'm pretty sure no one has gotten that yet but I'm too lazy to check MGC.

The couple of times I tried to play Guwange I found it really complicated because IIRC you have to control two characters at once?  Will give it another shot when I get back to X360 land, but it kind of struck me as an oddball Cave game.

Yeah, it's definitely an oddball game. You control the character you choose, but instead of a 'laser' attack, you have a Shikigami that throws bombs. While you're using that, your character moves slowly (like holding the laser button), while your Shikigami moves more freely. So you basically have to aim your attacks while maneuvering through bullets. It takes a while to get used to, but it works. Terrain also comes into play. Sometimes there will be an enemy behind a wall that only your Shikigami will be able to hit, or you'll have to run along a rooftop or narrow path, stuff like that. Oh, and while your Shikigami is bombing an enemy, the bullets around him slow down and turn pink, sorta like the awakening mode in Espgaluda.

Now for the 360 arrange mode, you control your character and Shikigami separately, with the left and right thumbstick respectively. It works really well. That's actually what I've been playing the most of. 360 mode is way more fun than it should be!

Yeah it seemed like the kind of game that an arrange mode could make a lot more intuitive and fun.
