Did anyone try the new Netflix app? I was wondering if they're doing 1080p streaming. I'd use it on my PS3 but Sony started region locking Netflix on Japanese hardware (in America, durrr)

I don't believe the Guide background could be customized. Dashboard background and Channel elements were customizable by the Premium Themes or even user-set pictures, but not the Guide.

It would be nice to have a couple choices for preset styles.

i didn't have a problem with it.  I like it.  My problem was that it took more than 3 minutes to install it.  That's never happened on a 360 update for me.
