Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (combined platforms) -- 1.14MM
Donkey Kong Country Returns -- 430.5K
Gran Turismo 5 -- 400K

Donkey Kong should get a nice christmas boost methinks. Still, kinda lowish, GT5 is lolish.

Wish we could get kinect figures, sonic colors, and nba jam hd.

NPD: December 2010

Top PlayStation Highlights
- PS3 hardware sales continue to increase month over month (up 112%)
- PS3 had a 5% increase in year-to-date sales in November
- Three PS3 games ranked in the top ten software skus for the month, including Call of Duty: Black Opps, Assassin's Creed:Brotherhood, Gran Turismo 5

SCEA Statement
This holiday season PlayStation celebrates, along with the video game industry, as NPD reports a 9% year over year industry increase in overall dollar sales. The early blockbuster success of PlayStation Move has undoubtedly helped to pave the way for us as we head into 2011. The library of hard core and social gamer titles currently on the store shelves (EyePet, Get Fit with Mel B, Gran Turismo 5, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, SingStar Dance) as well those to come (Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, LittleBigPlanet 2, Twisted Metal, Killzone 3) will only continue to solidify our place in the living room. In fact, the strength of Move’s technology infrastructure in allowing our developers to make already released titles Move compatible, will help broaden the net of their existing PS3 titles, bringing them to life even further with PlayStation Move. We’re pleased that consumers continue to look to PlayStation for innovative and unique entertainment experiences. As we head into the new year, with almost every PlayStation Move sku in short supply and on allocation, I think we will continue to see a steady surge of positive growth for our home entertainment offerings simply because customers looking for strong product value, quality entertainment offerings, depth in gaming and content (original programming, NetFlix, Hulu Plus, NHL, MLB), will choose PlayStation.

Not sure of worldwide LTD numbers. Here are life time to date figures for the US and for the year.

DS - 6.06m (44.79m)

X360 - 4.90m (23.53m)

Wii - 4.64m (31.83m)

PS3 - 3.12m (14.25m)

The GT numbers are decent although we'll see how the legs are in the next couple of months. Racing games are less big than they used to be. The strong anti-response is for all the fanboys who always touted GT 5 as the crown jewel that would right the Sony ship.

Also comparing direct numbers isn't really that useful in a certain sense. GT is a much bigger franchise for Sony than Forza is for MS. Forza doesn't have to sell at the same numbers to justify itself in the same way that GT does.

It would be like comparing Halo to Socom or something.

Well they will never catch them in the US obviously. (Unless MS stops focusing on the 360 and moves on to their next console kinda like a genesis snes thing) Probably not in the UK either since the 360 has been trending really well there.

I'm sure its pretty easy to dig up the Japan numbers which leaves the rest of Europe which is more Sony oriented.

I would guess the 360 is still a few million ahead but there are NPD heads who are more into the numbers than I am.

Edit: VG chartz which is bullshit a lot of the time of course has it at 46.7m to 42.8m in favor of 360 ww.

Handhelds completely suck the air out of the console market in Japan. One of the many reasons that Japan devs have struggled on the HD consoles this gen in the west.

Guys, GT5 was only out for a few days in November and dirty hackers screwed the release date up so that caused a lot of confusion with shoppers. GT5 will be number one in December.

I think it's pretty safe to say the PS3 is dead. It'll sell well with a price cut, but ultimately the Xbox 360 is the console of choice for most gamers. The biggest multi console games will continue selling more on the 360 due to the userbase size advantage and Xbox Live.

There's really no reason to buy a PS3. The games aren't appealing, there are far cheaper Blu Ray players available, etc.

What? ONE GAME will use it? Maybe 2?

it's designed for fps and light gun-style games, so

RE5 Gold Edition, MAG, Time Crisis, Killzone 3, SOCOM, The Shoot, Dead Space Extraction

apparently they consulted with third parties when designing it, so any future fps that adds move functionality

also, i'm no wagglebitch, but the move is a really good piece of hardware

it is shockingly accurate - as a former wii owner i can say that it is well above the wagglewand in precision

i bought hustle kings, and during the calibration it superimposes a cue stick over your hand - i slung it all over the place trying to make it lose calibration and it still followed every twitchy thing i did, even behind my back

everyone should know i have no problem dogging motion control when it sucks, but this doesn't suck, and i don't have any of the problems i had with the wii in bright light situations

i wish rockstar would patch in compatibility to RDR so i could gunsling in my tightie-whities

no, haven't tried that, it doesn't look like it would be my thing

i only had to spend $50 for the move (already had the camera), so it was a lower cost risk, and so far i don't regret it (other than sports champions, which isn't a bad game but is clearly not for single players and like dumbasses they didn't add online play)

the thing with the move is that for most games it will be a totally optional control method, so if you hate it you can still play your games with the dualshock

Oddly enough, the people I work with, who are of the older, casual set, cite Xbox Live as the reason they chose PS3. Nothing about Blu-Ray, nothing about games, just they think pay-for-play is stupid. And I can't really argue with them on that one.

the only games worth a crap so far that i have played are:

Sports Champions - fun if you have people to play with, avoid if not
RE5 Gold - works well, distinguished mentally-challenged reversal of the controls (trigger to aim, move button to shoot)
Hustle Kings - very intricate use of the motion controls for setting up and taking shots
Planet Minigolf - very responsive
Tumble - only played the demo, it's a jenga style puzzle game which really shows off the precision

i didn't like pain (awful game made even more awful with move), the shoot (should have been a $10 psn game), kung fu rider (demo, just atrocious), high velocity bowling (works okay, but meh game overall)

i have mag and heavy rain on the way from gamefly, and will try ruse after that

there's an rts game coming out for psn called under siege which looks okay

basically, most of the psn games which use it are decent (and only $10), and the $30-40 retail games are bleh

I'm not selfish
options are good,no problems with that

I wish that every title has as many options as possible, especially in controls department.
But there is some other side.

Move problem is that it can replace core controls but "core" games are(will be) designed around dual analogs...userbase,$$$,online,etc
They can put some sticker "move compatible" but recent software(hardware) sales are not exactly promising.Pretty meh support from Sony first party tells a lot...

Personally there is nothing that annoys me more in games than bad controls,i can handle everything...tearing,low fps, shitty cutscenes, shitty gameplay
Bad controls*,game gets blacklisted immediately

Pachter also noted that one third of PS3 sales were $400 PlayStation Move bundles, versus one half of all Xbox 360 purchases being Kinect bundles. (There are two Kinect bundles, a $300 4GB model and $400 250GB model.) "Xbox 360 Kinect console bundles outsold PS3 Move console bundles by more than 5 to 1," said the analyst.

 :lol

you think those're games they're selling?

when it's Kinect vs. Move, nobody wins

meh.

As always I have both no interest in motion controls nor any fear of them. Still tons of games I get and want to play. But I admit I like to give a little kick to Sony every now and then.

I used to be extremely pro-sony but goddamn do they fucking suck. The PS3 and PSP are two of the biggest fuck-ups ever but you'll never hear about it moat of the time.

Ever since I got old enough to have a job, I've never been especially pro any corporation. That goes for every purchase in every category. I've always just bought whatever has the games I want. Playstation was king last gen. Who didn't own and love that console...

But this gen once Sony adopted their pricing structure that made it pretty easy to decide which one I wanted at least initially. And then once the PS3 became reasonably affordable I was no longer interested. I had already invested in building up my 360 library and my PC library. So I don't even really desire a PS3 anymore even though the system is perfectly fine.

That's been Sony's problem this entire gen. The console market has always been about being mainstream. And they priced it out of that window.
