Its exciting for me because these are pretty good games apparently. It merges soccer and rpgs, so it is unique. I liek soccer and rpgs.

The game sells like mad over here, and there are a lot of secondary market products. I just took my kids to the theater to see the 3D movie today: ¥900 tix each, plus ¥400 each for the glasses. :'(

No, it's because they're Soccer RPGs (reminiscent of the old Captain Tsubasa games) and they turned out really good. Quite popular in Japan too. I'd love to try them myself.

man what a ridiculous game,the whole game mood feel like an alternate reality captain tsubasa,the only thing it's missing is just the whole "THE SOCCER BALL IS MY FRIEND" and then i swear it's identical

considering how popular captain tsubasa is here in europe,it should be no surprise that they are doing a europe only release,if anything it's surprising that they are trying it only now (kinda tells you about the horrible european release dates...)

the game is... yea,it's pretty much the blitzball minigame in FFX turned into a whole game,it's a little more involving cause you control the whole team and most of the action happens in real time thanks to the touch screen but the description is a perfect fit

there are random encounters (which doesn't seems like a very happy idea to me) and you can equip a few item to increase your stat and you can recruit more player trough a scout and uh... yea i guess that's about it

It's a good game. Mainly because the soccer combat is fun. The short battles only take like 5-10 seconds and the main games are few and far between and they're a decent little soccer game.

I never played 2 or 3 because honestly I don't see the point. It's just going to be the same thing again. But I would recommend the first game to anyone. Along with Layton, it's the best thing L5 has done.

Hey Bebpo, you ever check out any of L5's other DS games? I frigging love the Layton series and I want to know exactly how disheartened I should be that their murder mystery centric Sloan and McHale is never coming out in english. Mystery Room looks pretty boss as well.

yea level 5 announce a lot of game but then they take forever to release,kinda like a japanese rare

anyway i would have a hard time saying "why" but i must admit that it is kinda fun,tough there are some things i don't understand like...

1) does the role of a player matter? i see many defender with high attack stat and it makes no sense to me
2) what's the point of the various stat exactly?
3) how do you understand how powerfull is a tech?
4) if a fire player has more powerfull fire tech shouldn't i just give my fire tech book to fire players?

Sorry magus, it's been years since I played it and I don't remember gameplay details. I didn't bother recruiting people and just did the main story and was fine. I leveled a bit in the SOCCER DUNGEON that opens up later, though.

yea i had some trouble starting out too,it's especialy nasty because the first actual game plays under tight special rules so it's pretty much a sink or swim situation

but once you get the hang out of it it's not bad

you know one thing i like a lot is that opposing team are made with the same logic of megaman master robot,the first team you fight is called "THE OCCULT" and it has a vampire,a guy with a nail on his head called franky,and a goalkeeper with jason mask who blocks by cutting the ball into two with a knife

the second team is called "THE WILD" and it features animalistic player,the gorilla one has a special shot involving vine swinging

are you making tons of passes? it's an easy way to cover a lot of ground and skip adversary... a good way to win short "fights" is to have the player in the center pass the ball to one of the side player and then pass it to the center player again when he's free,after that you should have a clear shot at the door,note that

1) if you tap on a spot and then quickly tap on a second spot,you'll do two passes in a row
2) pass near a player and he'll dash to catch it

also when in a contrast,you can see on the top the chance you have to win it,if you think you are going to win it,pick the left option,it gives you less chance of victory but more chance of keeping the ball,if you pick the right one it gives you more chance of victory but the ball might go somewhere else (which is still better than "in the hand of your opponent") and lastly use special moves? they are quite usefull and in fact i think that sometimes they are even mandatory to use

I dont have special moves. I cant beat the Sumo Club. I just want to play it without being frustrated at the shit controls.

The game suggests pausing it to "set up commands" so I move my characters, then the AI just goes the other way. Like thats a whole lot of fucking help.

well i already said how you should do it,pass the ball to the player to the left,then move the center player near the goal,then when the three sumo player are going toward the player with the ball,pass the ball to the player to the center and shot

works everytime,you don't even need to stop the time to do so

Did you guys never play NHL on genesis?

The soccer in this game is pretty easy. Just do the same thing as NHL games: run one guy up the side of the goal -> crossover to the guy on the other side -> shoot = win.

The only real challenge is getting control of the ball to get it up there.

it's kinda of a hair ripping experience,at least you get tons of experience for what amount to 2 second of action

i reached chapter 5 (i think that's like half the game?) and after the first one,i have finished every game with a score of at least 4-0,the only hard part was not hanging myself while i have to fight yet another random battle while trying to finish that damn connection tree...

Which is good because if it was as hard as a real soccer match, you'd lose half the time and it'd be frustrating to continue on in the story.
