MASON, Ohio -- Mason Councilman Rich Cox says he was in the "wrong place at the wrong time" when police officers spotted him at the motel room of a woman suspected of being a prostitute....According to a police report, officers talked with Cox when they saw him leave a room where Min Guo, 32, was staying at the Super 8 Motel on State Route 741.Mason Police Officer Sean McCormick wrote in a police report that he and other investigators staked out Guo's motel room the afternoon of June 11 based on tips they got and an ad on backpage.com, a sex trade website. The ad, for a woman in the Mason/Kings Mill area, described her as "SUPER SWEET" with an "ACCOMMODATING personality with an ANGELIC FACE & SEXY BODY to match.""The ad also displays 6 pictures of a female in either a bra or topless," McCormick wrote in his report.During their stakeout, they saw a man -- later identified as Cox -- enter the room, then come back out 15 minutes later.Cox told investigators at the motel that the woman pictured in the ad wasn't the woman inside the room and denied prostitution or massages were taking place there."They asked me if I saw anything illegal, blah blah blah, and I said no," Cox said. "I wouldn't know what a prostitute looks like, I have no idea."...Cox said he was at the motel because an older Asian man outside a Verizon store had asked him to deliver a note to Guo, who Cox thought was the man's daughter."He was visibly upset," Cox said. "You could see he was upset. He was panicking."The note wasn't in English, Cox said, and when he delivered it, he stepped into the room."She was trying to call him, read the note, asked some questions, so... it was not very long," he said.After officers talked with Cox, they knocked on the room's door, according to the police report. Guo answered in a miniskirt, then asked to change clothes. She had cash hanging out of her jean pockets, McCormick wrote. There was also a white notebook that seemed to be a ledger in the motel room, and McCormick wrote he spotted several condom wrappers in the trash can.Guo told McCormick and the other investigators she wanted to check out of the motel; when McCormick and a detective came back the next day, front desk staff told him she'd left. McCormick wrote he found a new guest in the motel room.Cox said he has "nothing to hide" and that his wife is mostly upset because she believes he put himself in harm's way."She understands it's not prostitution, she doesn't have a problem with that," he said. "She has a problem with me getting in a situation trying to help somebody. So what does that do for me? That makes me not want to help people. And that's sad, that's a sad state."
