Because it would instantly solve the clean energy problem and make all the reforms they want unnecessary.

And the recent floods in Germany were caused by poor water management following heavy rainfall.

The only way we could see a Tsunami is if England accidentally nukes itself and that causes a big enough earthquake.
Which I admit, has a bigger than 0% chance of happening.

The North Sea is about 600 meters away from where I'm sitting right now.
And I can tell you, the water has never gotten high enough to even touch our coastal defense or beach clubs.
I'll take a picture when the tide is high one of these days.

I mean, god forbid I attempt a serious reply in this thread, but noone wants nuclear except for 1. Power-hungry industrial companies and 2. The populist, often corporatist politicians that support them. Normal sane people don't want nuclear because of the risks involved and the general unsustainability of current nuclear power technology. Utilities/power companies don't want it because of incredibly high cost and low ROI going forward. Governments don't want it because they don't want to subsidise massive costs for unsustainable power generation and spent fuel storage (terminal spent fuel storage is still not a solved problem, 60 years later).

In our country both left and right wing groups see it as the lesser of two evils. Without nuclear power we can't phase out natural gas and transition to electric vehicles. Plus our transit/energy footprint is such that we can hardly built any housing (there's a shortage of 1 million homes). So if the left wants to fight climate change and keep the open borders they have no choice but to endorse nuclear energy. They have no other answer to the rising costs and shortage of energy. Especially now that energy bills have quadrupled.

Before it was biomass as a temporary solution but chopping forests in the US and shipping that wood back to Europe to burn is very bad for the environment.

The idea is to built 2 or 3 additional modern plants.

The reality is that unless we risk food shortages, close the borders or do other radical things we're not going to reach our carbon neutral targets by 2050, let alone 2030.
My ideal solution would be that we would just invest in French nuclear capacity. We'd depend on France for our energy sure but they have the technology and more importantly space to construct additional plants.

But as always the push for nuclear power has little to do with what it is for: energy.
It is simply a way we can keep trucking along and meet the carbon targets in 2030 'on paper' with future nuclear energy plans which may or may not happen before 2050.
