The idea is for everyone to use their photos as avatars, in hopes it would elevate attitudes once everyone realizes that the board is full of humans rather than bots*. Not the worst GAF idea.

However people should have opted-in then dispersed and went back to their usual discussions and circles, rather than stick to a thread that seems to have devolved into one of most inane chatrooms. The "topic" has been flipping between food and weather for over a week now, how exciting.

What's your problem with torrents? You can set uploading to 0, if that's your beef, and you can pause a download anytime you want and resume later [without using any kind of third party software].

The uploading bit (ratio crap)
DDL/usenet is faster
The browser plugins are usually dodgy as fuck or freezes my browser

I have vuze, I've had that since before the name change (it was tomato or something as i recall). Vuze makes my browser flip the fuck out. I'd rather wait till they put in ddl's it's not like i'm hurting for stuff to play, im playing snatcher on my psp inbetween posts

Ratio gets you kicked out of some fansub places, which is me oh so annoy. I've gotten used to just req-ing from IRC bots at least.

Twilight Princess is a great game to begin with. Whoever disputes this is stoopid and probably shouldn't be taken seriously as a Zelda fan, despite their misgivings with the direction of the story and characterization in the latter portion of the game. How does one "realize" that TP was a great game? The game's dungeons are among the best in the series, what the fuck.

I thought this was considered to be truth among the Zelda fanbase? Even if you don't like some parts of TP - and even I have my own misgivings - what is there is a really well designed game despite pacing issues.

I haven't played Skyward Sword yet, but Christ.

Zelda cycle is not real and is such a stupid strawman that people without a modicum of creativity bring to the discussion. Lumping an entire fanbase together, as if they're one entity, without the foresight or understanding that tastes evolve and change over time is the purest of all internet hyperbole.

A far better explanation for Majora's Mask is that people expected more OoT and got arguably the most experimental game in the series. MM is the definition of hate it or love it; it is also a game that grows with you as time goes on. That's a really bad example.

I have always loved OoT, WW, and TP. When I first played MM, I didn't like it very much, as I was comparing it to and directly expecting, more OoT; more OoT it was not.

Major's Mask was received fine. Extremely well from the game press at the time. It was knocked a bit for being a reskin of Ocarina but it was still received well. For casual types though many may have skipped it because on the surface it looked extremely like Ocarina. So now nerds embrace it because its the "underground" Zelda.

Nerds also have a tendency to look at disdain at whatever is currently out and then get their nostalgia fix on whatever was out in the past.

Most people who played WW seemed to enjoy it. Most of its hate was pre-release when people hadn't even seen any footage.

In general I like all Zelda games equally, except the DS games, and it stands as my favorite game series. That said, Wind Waker is probably the weakest 3D Zelda for why I like Zelda games, but the presentation is top notch. WW has the lowest highs, if that makes sense. Like, the dungeons are the worst out of the 3D games and things like that.

Yes, and for guys like you that mapped out every inch of the ocean ahead of time, it was Bob's Your Uncle, but for the rest of us who had just been going more or less from point A to point B, the game screeched to a grinding halt for HOURS while we were forced to comb around for shit.

It's mostly because of sales numbers. It's more likely that a large contingent of the people suddenly came around on Wind Waker hadn't played it before, bought it used years later around the time of TP's release, than people who were previously down on WW suddenly changed their minds just cuz TP came out, which is the claim the so-called Zelda cycle makes.

Not really. Ocarina of Time sold 7 million, TP sold 5 million.

If Wind Waker sold 0.742, that's a horrible number.

Meaning, out of gaf - if we're using gaf as a metric and not zelda fans on the internet in general, as the zelda cycle is not inclusive to gaf if you're going to use it as a basis in reality - very few people probably actually bought Wind Waker to begin with. It makes a lot of sense, that most of Wind Waker's praises have come post-release, either from new users, or people who replayed it who are using hyperbole because Wind Waker has kawaii animu "whimsy", contrasted to TP's "dark and muddy" color palette.

So in a way, we're probably both right.
