And I concede with them on this, as do plenty of feminists but that's literally their only legitimate argument. The rest is just awash of self-loathing pitiful "woe is me our privileges are leaving us." They also think our fight for equality is some zero sum game. Losing privilege isn't the same as losing rights, which is why they piss me off so frequently.

Nah, Naruto is at it's core a really good shounen series, but it's been brought down by the fact that almost every character who is not Naruto himself is pretty awful, that the author loves to focus on these characters instead of the title character, and that the story fell apart after the halfway point.

If someone made an edited version of the Naruto manga where they cut out all the useless/bad crap (aka, all the sasuke chapters), it'd be a great shounen series.

There is good manga in there and the art and action are really nice, which makes it work well for the CC2 games.


Otoh, Bleach has no redeeming values at all since the Soul Society arc besides its art and action.  The characters/story are trash and the manga will keep going forever with no point because he just makes shit up as he goes.

In Santa Cruz, I'd get dirty looks for walking behind a woman on a path, even though it was a commonly traveled path. There were very few black students on campus there, but if I found one, I'd walk close to a black guy. The girls didn't give scared/dirty looks then, mostly because they were afraid of seeming racist.

I also gave up on the anime, 30% of every episode was wasted on recaps. Entire episodes are wasted running around. Basically they're so worried about catching up to manga that it became tedious and unsatisfying.

the manga, however, is rightfully the greatest shonen series ever. oda is a cultural genius, and i would let him dress me up like nami and stick his yeller penis in me. i would even name the butt baby luffy.

There are good shounen.  Not a lot mind you.  But there are good ones like One Piece, Hikaru no Go, Parts of Kenshin, Parts of Naruto, the first half of Death Note, one arc in Bleach.  If you count non-jump Shounen, then stuff like Fullmetal Alchemist, parts of Soul Eater, uh there are good ones but I haven't read shounen for a while so I'm having a hard time remembering them.

You know, the reason why there are a limited amount of good shounen manga when compared to other genre of manga is because shounen stuff runs FOREVER and there are only so many slots in the shounen magazines for series.  So there just aren't that many shounen manga made per decade compared to other types of manga where stuff runs for 1 volume or 3 volumes and that's that.  A lot of shounen series run 20,30,40,50+ volumes over a 10 year+ span.

@Beb like I said there are exceptions, but they are few and far between. The genre itself is mostly garbage because a lot of them follow the same cookie cutter overarching story and generally have those same 5 shonen tropes thrown in ad nausea. I'd much rather watch Antiques Bakery than most of the crap in the shounen genre, granted though when shounen is done right it can be fucking amazing.
