I like the underlying tone of "fuck them, let them rot!" in that thread.  Not enough can be expressed for some of the general dumbfuckery I saw there.

There are definitely paid virals on the forum, but contrary to what we would hope for the sake of humanity, they're not any of the obvious ones.  Moderation does look into that kind of stuff, and the more a poster is calling attention to themselves, the more they get looked at.  What happens when they are found out seems to vary, though.  Sometimes they are publicly drawn and quartered, sometimes they are quietly banned (like Wollan), and sometimes they seem to get away with a warning.

But the subtle ones, the paid virals who are doing their jobs well?  On a forum that big, there's no way the moderators can catch them all.

I'm surprised, given how many people are willing to do this for free.

People claim it's more powerful than ps2 and xbox but we have yet to see wii games that look BETTER than what those systems offered. Yeah, there are ports! But the claim is that they're above ps2 and xbox, but aside from Nintendo games (Mario Galaxy) I see absolute zero proof of this.

I've made this point myself before. There's no reason for Nintendo to cheap out. But the article is about a game that uses tech to make huge worlds. Nintendo used their tech on Gamecube to do different things. Sunshine had high verticality. Wind Waker had a similar concept of a large world. The article seems to whine for more pretty tech on top of that. It just whines in general. It's written in a juvenile matter, not just with its words but with its approach. I don't like the way that thinking is going. There should be room in consoles for high production and lower production games. Designers should be allowed a wider valley to work in. I am a bit worried about where the hobbie would have been without the Wii and its lower cost, lower entry point. Honestly, I may not be in the console buying market if the world was shaped by the AAA High Production Console game. I am barely buying console games as is. Would I like Dolphin-esque visuals? Sure. Do I have a PC that can run Skyrim at sexy levels? Pretty much. Do I ask every game to do that? NO. There's more to the situation than that.

I find it funny that a troll about Wii's visuals gets them upset in 2012. The console's been out for 6 years and is basically dead at this point. It's not a shocker to anyone that it can't produce visuals well beyond that of an OG Xbox. Like why is that a surprise? Why must that even be defended?
