Still, there's something enjoyable about twists and surprises.  They're not without value.  A good movie is good regardless, but it's even better if it can fuck with your expectations.

I think people should aspire to not be a dick about spoilers, even if it's something old, but I think what constitutes being a dick becomes an increasingly small set of behaviours the older a work gets.  For something 80 years old or w/e, I think the extent of not being a dick about spoilers amounts to not deliberately telling someone who is unfamiliar with the work and intends to watch/read/play it in the near future.  eg, if someone's like, "Aw yeah, gonna go watch Citizen Kane this afternoon, don't know shit about it", it would be dick-ish to say to that guy "Rosebud was his sled, enjoy the fucking movie", but that's about it.

People on GAF freak out when someone mentions things that were featured prominently in trailers, though.
