Hypothesis: Their reaction to google's ads is overblown and they realize that google would never enforce those rules to a strict extent since their advertisers would lose all the money making audiences. The rules are there in case they run into trouble with an old lady on a rampage, but in the every day they likely wouldn't enforce or follow the rules for fear of the potential money loss.

I mostly agree with this, but at the same time I don't see EviLore deciding to do all this just on a whim after years of apparently no problems. Google must have very recently said something with the implication that GAF's Adsense license could be in jeopardy. I'd say it's most likely at the end of the day that things will more or less go back to normal with a somewhat stricter level of what is allowed. 50/50 on the swearing filter coming back too.
