It may be played out, but I work with kids who are actually mentally distinguished mentally-challenged, so I find it insulting when it's used improperly.

Segata Nailed it. That has always bugged me about hit moderation, especially in the OT, but when actively participating in discussions (especially gaming) he always serves dishes of cold hard truths. I'd rate him Classy, but with a strong chance of being a prude, especially when asses are involved.

tbh I can't even think of a "5 worst mods" list. A few years ago I had to deal with Dragona, Sporks, Vennt, etc inserting themselves into discussions and banning people for little to no reason. But now the only mods I run into are Blackace in the hip hop thread and Amir0x in the various Game of Thrones/ASOIAF threads. Blackace is my favorite mod, and has helped cultivate quite a nice community in the hip hop thread. Ami is Ami. I have no problem with him, but obviously he's quite in-your-face. I always loved posting in gaming threads where he was modding because it was a free pass to troll whatever loser demographic he was trolling (usually Ntards). Can't hate on that.

I see Kagari every now and then, she makes annoying posts...but I don't see her doing stupid stuff.

My only issues with Kagari are:
- She's the least intelligent mod, and one of the least intelligent posters in general. That's why she sticks to short and 1-word replies, anything more than that usually exposes her.
- She's an unapologetic Sony shill.
- Her biggest assets are her penchant for spamming Squeenix news and her healthy prostate.

In other words, she's not extremely offensive but I'd argue her relevancy among the mod team.

So I'm with PD, times have changed and my list of shitty mods is a very short one, and the good are outweighing the bad these days.

This is pretty much the closest GAF has gotten to the 2004-2006ish days in terms of freedom. Yea girl-age threads are banned, but to be honest most of those sucked anyway. I rarely see any of the mod dickship that soured me on the place just a few years ago.

The best way to moderate is to be apart of the community imo. That's the best way to determine who is being disruptive in a thread, who has a history of being a bad poster, who the good posters are, etc. If you're just swooping into tense, argumentative threads and banning people you run the risk of fucking up the ecosystem. I've seen many threads were a person was banned for allegedly being an asshole when in reality, the person simply had a wildly different opinion from others and was being jumped on. That's why whenever I'm posting in any gay or trans related thread I make it clear I'm just expressing my opinion, and being as diplomatic as possible. If Dragona was still a mod I'd imagine me, Etoilet, and similar posters would have been banned for that stuff.

I agree, but it seems like some of them at GAF start things as a means to bait people into getting banned. That doesn't seem like a healthy way to run a board.

Evilore keeps a tighter leash on the bannings than you would think, too. He gave certain mods more leeway because they had been mods so long, but the newer guys (aka the current team minus blackace and bishoptl) pretty much have every ban inspected to make sure it's not random bullshit. If he doesn't agree with it, he'll undo it. Dude runs a tight ship.

The mods decisions are their decisions, but Evilore reviews *all* of them (nowadays anyway), and if he disagrees with them, they get overturned. All the moderators who could or would ban willy-nilly aren't there anymore, so if you get banned now, sorry to say, you probably fucked up.
