He called me to verify it, but it was more of a thinly veiled breaking of good new since I was able to sense the excitement in his tone. I remember using some very harsh words in my state of disbelief, some that I really regret. He was so offended he refused to talk to me for almost 2 weeks.

I hate when that happens. Sometimes I'm in such disbelief that someone could do/believe something so stupid in regards to technology that I end up being too mean. It was also shocking and infuriating to see first hand one of the types of people they're targeting with these scams, and in this case it was my poor 70 year old technologically illiterate dad. I remember some of the things I told him was to stop using the internet altogether if he's going to fall for these things, that I'm really worried he's becoming a risk to the financial wellbeing of the family, and to "next time, look at the freaking address, why would Nokia register its official email at hotmail?" an advice he's not able to process it to this very day.
