The hearts are in the right place, but even if everyone on gaf bought a game, it'd still make up such a small number that it wouldn't be profitable to bring more jrpgs over.

The only way for jrpgs to start coming to the west again is for some sort of mainstream movement where jrpgs become popular again.

I'm grateful we're getting more than just bottom-tier Gust and Idea Factory games like Tales of Graces f, Ni no Kuni and FFXIII-2.

Graces being brought over is nice, but until Ni no Kuni and XIII-2 prove themselves...dunno how much they're worth!  Meanwhile tons of quality rpgs are being left out like US.  This situation right now is pretty dire.  I mean it was really bad during the NES/SNES/Saturn era, got better during PS1 though there were still a lot of jrpgs left overseas, then it got really good for the PS2 gen, and now it's going back to PS1/Saturn era.

As much as I feel their pain, I gotta say: neither the publishers nor the retailers are the devil here.  Publishers shouldn't be obligated to pony up dough on projects they don't think will sell.  Retailers shouldn't be obligated to order and stock products they don't think will sell.  Most of the stuff these gamers are complaining about not seeing are games that probably will not sell, or at least won't sell in enough quantity to justify the effort.  There's no devil here, just an unfortunate reality.

I'm gonna bet on Zelda. Uncharted is a solid series, I doubt the third will suck. Zelda on the other hand could be some waggle bullshit that isn't intuitive or worthwhile

Retailers are just doing what they've always done, though.  They're trying to keep their shelves as full as possible with games that sell as well as possible.  For the people in that thread thinking they can get more niche games in English, the retailers and the publishers are going to stand in their way equally, because their concern is making money.  Selling a couple thousand extra copies isn't going to make the difference for either of them, sadly.

Nights Wii is like Zelda Spirit Tracks; there's good gaming in there, but the crap you have to wade through is beyond the terribleness of all senses and I had to give up.

I still need to finish Nights Wii, but Spirit Tracks is about 85% bullshit.  If it was just he dungeons in linear order, it would be pretty great.  What I've played of Nights didn't have such a radical ratio.

I almost bought Nights Wii 3 years ago from a GAFer for like $5. I dropped out of the deal though but I think it's at Gamestop for around the same price... I never played the original though so I don't know if Oscar's recommendation is true for me.

Andrex, what I won't say is that everyone will like NiGHTS.  What I will say is that if you liked the original NiGHTS, there are an equal number of awesome NiGHTS levels in Journey of Dreams.  Unfortunately the game doesn't let you bite around the turds (and they are turdy turds) until you've eaten the whole sandwich at least once.

Assuming it doesn't have online integration (?) a 100% save file probably exists on the web.

And about the whole 'death of niche' thing.  Retail niche WILL all but flatline, especially with such a long recession.  It astounds me what meager numbers some publishers have been coasting on and I don't see it persisting after this gen.  Niche genres via dd services will be fine though, so I'm not worried at all.  Then again I see no great loss that jrpgs are going to lose their historically high production values.

In a lot of cases, that's certainly nothing new.  No one expects the next shmup to be high calibre audiovisual whizbangery.  So yeah, I'm not too worried.  I think at this point its just a waiting game for certain publishers to come to their senses. 

 *I'm tired and I feel like I forgot my point somewhere.  I think it was- the only reason I can see to be upset over the trends is that niche genres will be more and more dd propositions.  DD platforms all have their various constraints which may compromise some things regarding fidelity.  Thats not a huge concern of mine but I could see it bothering other people.

Game's fine, outside the parts with the kids.  Once you've gone through the game once so you can choose the levels you want to play and skip cut-scenes, it stands as a pretty good sequel to NiGHTS.  You're free to disagree, of course, but since most of you have the shittiest of shit taste in games, I'm not even going to pretend to care.

I wanted a Saturn bad but my dad refused cause he said I'd only get good games if I import and he's not paying for imports  :'(

I think Saturn and N64 are pretty equal, although I got it first, then N64, then PSX.

Yup, I personally dislike DD platforms, preferring boxed retail copies of stuff.
