Most of the stuff these gamers are complaining about not seeing are games that probably will not sell, or at least won't sell in enough quantity to justify the effort. There's no devil here, just an unfortunate reality.

I mean the devil to the people in that thread thinking they can help get more niche games over here. Retailers have been shrinking down SKU counts considerably over the last few years, so naturally the niche stuff is going first.

Retailers are just doing what they've always done, though. They're trying to keep their shelves as full as possible with games that sell as well as possible. For the people in that thread thinking they can get more niche games in English, the retailers and the publishers are going to stand in their way equally, because their concern is making money. Selling a couple thousand extra copies isn't going to make the difference for either of them, sadly.

Nights Wii is like Zelda Spirit Tracks; there's good gaming in there, but the crap you have to wade through is beyond the terribleness of all senses and I had to give up.

I still need to finish Nights Wii, but Spirit Tracks is about 85% bullshit. If it was just he dungeons in linear order, it would be pretty great. What I've played of Nights didn't have such a radical ratio.

I almost bought Nights Wii 3 years ago from a GAFer for like $5. I dropped out of the deal though but I think it's at Gamestop for around the same price... I never played the original though so I don't know if Oscar's recommendation is true for me. $:-\$

And about the whole 'death of niche' thing. Retail niche WILL all but flatline, especially with such a long recession. It astounds me what meager numbers some publishers have been coasting on and I don't see it persisting after this gen. Niche genres via dd services will be fine though, so I'm not worried at all. Then again I see no great loss that jrpgs are going to lose their historically high production values.

In a lot of cases, that's certainly nothing new. No one expects the next shmup to be high calibre audiovisual whizbangery. So yeah, I'm not too worried. I think at this point its just a waiting game for certain publishers to come to their senses.

*I'm tired and I feel like I forgot my point somewhere. I think it was- the only reason I can see to be upset over the trends is that niche genres will be more and more dd propositions. DD platforms all have their various constraints which may compromise some things regarding fidelity. Thats not a huge concern of mine but I could see it bothering other people.

I think Saturn and N64 are pretty equal, although I got it first, then N64, then PSX.
