Houston's radio made a huge dip in the 00's and it's partly why I moved my music listening from radio to seeking out new music via the internet.
94.5 The Buzz (houston's alternative rock station) played good music. Sometimes. But it depended wholly on what time of day it was. At night time I loved The Buzz and -- when I was a teenager and it was a rock station and not the crappy Mexican station that replaced it -- 101.1.
I found that listening to the rock stations was FAR more bearable listening to the rap or top 40 stations. Sometimes.
Of course, 102.1 The Box (r&b and soul) is still awesome. Sometimes.
The biggest culprit for Houston radio during the 2000's was 97.9 the Box. It was the rap/r&b station and it turned to absolute donkey balls. Gone were the great DJs (T-Gray!) and night shows (Say What You Wanna Say!) and replaced by complete filth.
Houston has killed a number of my favorite radio stations over the years. 91.7, 95.7 The Wave, 98.5 The Box (best station ever
