Uncharted 2 bored me. I'm talking about the original. Himu said that 2 > 1 which I don't agree with.

the love for the story and dialog is always confusing. like when people whine about an Uncharted movie straying from the source material, I thought it was a good idea. and little quirks in the game bother me. I hate it when Drake explains what's happening. I mean, all that stuff is good by game standards but it's not why I'll play the game. I don't think anyone gave a damn about that Uncharted comic.

The set pieces totally do make up for it. The story just sets up whatever context is needed to put Drake on a train. I'd be fine with screen wipes or a silent movie "suddenly..." replacing it all.

It's not as amazing now a few years later, but fucking shit was awesome-wowsome on release day.

It always paled in comparison to Gears. The gameplay has always been a full step down. I don't know about multiplayer; Gears 2 was incredibly flawed, so maybe the Uncharted series beat it there, but in single-player, there's no comparison.

That's not a bad thing (few games are as good as the Gears series), but it does make the "best series evaaarrr!!!!" fanboys kind of annoying.

I haven't played gears of war 1 in years. But gears of war 2 was incredibly boring.

I've got no love for the dialogue or story in Uncharted. It's just a fun game. Neat locales with great graphics and a bunch of gameplay styles thrown together in a great manner. I love Uncharted.

Having played Fallout: New Vegas again, I'm finding myself agreeing with this. The clan system and dialog didn't stand out as much from 3 and I personally liked the single super mutant threat of 3 versus playing matchmaker for a bunch of clans in New Vegas.

uncharted 2 has better gunplay, set pieces, theatrics (buildings crumbling while gameplay runs in real time for instance), more variety, better sense of adventure, more moments that are defined solely by exploration, better replay value (reward/point system), an awesome multiplayer mode, and better graphics.

uncharted 1 gets annoying. You go inside a cave that hasn't been explored in like 500 years and all of a sudden a bunch of dudes with guns come out and start shooting at you. Every fucking screen -- guys shooting at you. No sense of variety, it's always the same gun fight, different location.

That said I'll take both Uncharted games over any other third person shooter that isn't Vanquish/Shadows of the Damned. Uncharted is the only western third person shooter with smooth controls with an agile character that doesn't control like molasses that I can think of. Very Japanese-y.

Uncharted might be the best 3D game since Mario 64 in terms of scope and revolutionizing basic shit. I'm no PS3tard but the game is probably the best case for games as art, too

And then compare it to the average western action game. Japanese got that fast/agile action on lock, especially if it's third person.

That said, western devs are getting better at third person combat, but that cover shit ain't helping matters. Cover is for homos.

I dunno. Stuff like RDR and even Halo is really fast paced. I know it's not third person but watch a Halo tournament and shit is crazy there. I think Japanese people avoid it because it's too fast for them. I heard this Asian guy at a competition once say that he couldn't understand what was going on because it was too crazy. Japanese developers could probably learn a thing or two in that regard

Japanese people tend to get motion sickness, hence the lack of first person games.

RDR is great, but it doesn't really scream fast to me but that's probably because it's based off of the GTAIV engine which is slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Mass Effect 2 is fast.

Saints Row games are fast.

Uncharted 1/2 are fast.

Fast characters and smooth controls aren't a problem with western first person shooters because we have MASTERED the fps. You can pick up any average fps and it'll control like butter. But third person games? When I see an in-game avatar, I like that guy to be as fast/agile as all possible.

I'm not easily wowed by graphics, but instead by the artistry behind them. And I think that setpieces need good context, rather than hamstrung dialogue churned through the Indiana Jonesanator Dialogue Maker 5000, to complete that artistry.

Gears 1 absolutely wrecked that shit. And Gears 2 wrecked Uncharted 2. Nothing in either Uncharted title could touch even the Berserker encounter from G1.
