I'll hand it to Evilore: he took what was a big fucking lead weight around Gaming Age's neck and turned it into a major financial success.  If he ends up selling it for millions, then he might be the smartest motherfucker of us all.

I normally like to put on the ole hater hat for most instances you can name (popular movies, Sony titles, funerals, etc.), but fuck it if any among us wouldn't grudgingly fist bump Evilore for making out like a smooth criminal.


Which leads me to my next point. If Kotaku (or anyone for that matter) buys GAF, there's always the possibility that they could restructure the site to the point that it would lose the appeal that it has right now. Which means that there would be a vacuum that someone else could fill. For a time I thought the wastingyourlife forums might have accomplished that, but that flame burned out pretty quickly.

Film-GAF is kind of weird.

I find myself generally agreeing with Solo about 75% of the time, although I loved Inception, while he thinks it flat-out sucks. Snowman Prophet of Doom has an amazingly detailed and well-thought-out personal philosophy of film. I think he's wrong a lot (he thinks Saving Private Ryan is terrible, WTF?), but damn if I don't respect the way he argues his points. Expendable knows a lot about film, and he sure watches a ton of them, but I can't stand the way he's seen as an authority-figure on GAF because he has some blog. What's worse is that he kind of embraces that authority-figure role. He needs to take a lesson from EB's own Eric P when it comes to being extremely knowledgeable while also coming off as a down-to-earth guy.

Scullibundo has that everyman taste that I find myself agreeing with more than any of the other three I mentioned.

Like Sculli mocking Terrence Malick claiming Spielberg is better because SPR beat Thin Red Line at the oscars that year and hopes War Horse wins this year just to see him beat Terrence Malick. Fanboy shit like that is all I normally see.

I know good. I watch and figure out good/bad for myself. I've seen enough film, heard enough music and played enough games to have a wide enough selection of influence to draw from. I'm same way about food. I am a bit of a snob, but I don't blog about it or hype things because I know my taste is far removed from others' taste. I rarely ever seek out someone else's opinion because I honestly don't trust many people's opinion.

A movie thread goes like this for me: Before release, I check out the trailer in the OP and ignore most of the thread. If I eventually see it and I have some angles or theories on the film, I will come into the thread to discuss those ideas and see if those ideas have been discussed. Normally, most can't follow where I am going and would rather discuss some actresses's facial expression. So I leave the thread because they're dumbfucks. The End.

So I looked up a few of the older Writing Challenge threads, and... I grudgingly admit that Timedog is a pretty good writer. 

Probably the second worst realization I've had in recent years. First was that Kobe Bryant will never be a top 3 player in the NBA again. This is second. Third was probably that nothing we see, feel, or experience will matter at all after we're dead.

I have watched a lot of Bones. I may have even liked Bones. I would never say Bones was quality though. It's formulaic and redundant. It has like one thing going for it and nothing else. That one thing (main character chemistry) keeps getting it renewed. I understand this.

I haven't entered a GAF movie thread in a while and this was a couple of years ago.  So I don't know who posts in there anymore.  The only thing I ever see is all those threads Expendable makes.  and that's enough for me to want to stay away.  Anyone who seriously watches multiple movies at one time in pieces is irritating enough for me to ignore them.

And Zephyr, I'm specifically referring to people who dismiss anything big budget and instead tend to define their personality on being unique by naming shit no one has ever heard of. 

an example I remember (and around the time I gave up on discussing movies on GAF) was when Inglourious Basterds came out.  When it was brought up in the movies you've seen recently thread it was filled with a bunch of "ugh.  watch this serious ww2 movie while I continue comparing apples and oranges because obviously IB is trying to be a historically accurate war film".  I don't have the fucking patience anymore for people who are either stupid or that disingenuous to honestly compare those movies on false merits just to up their internet movie nerd cred.
