I'm excited for a Zelda game, my favorite franchise.  How can you fault me?

Easily. Zelda has been shit for the past two games, and Nintendo has spent this gen proving to everyone with a functioning brain how little they give a shit about their "core" demographic. Combine this knowledge with what we've seen of the game so far and the result is quite simple.

Not sure what you're trying to say with that image comparison, Patel.

"The Nintendo 3DS is a last-generation piece of crap with absolutely no reason to exist in 2011, and I look forward to watching Nintendo squander their momentum as they dive head-up-their-own-ass-first into PlayStation 3-level irrelevancy with all the velocity and planning of an alcoholic barrel-jumper hurling themselves over Niagara Falls."

That won't happen unfourtanetly  :'(

The visuals in Skyward sword is  :yuck :'(

Nintendo needs to get up to speed with their hardware, because playing Zelda in 2003 graphics is not exciting. That said, I am sure the gameplay will be improved upon Twilight Princess.

Now BrandNew, do you see why there's no reason to be excited for a Zelda game? This is how gaming works now. Instant feedback and content patches that increase game value. That's the way to succeed in the casual market. Nintendo's way of doing what Epic just did is releasing full, $50 retail discs.

Wait, what? This post makes no sense. A new Zelda game will still have tons more content than Infinity Blade regardless of how many free patches Epic puts out (even though I think it's really cool they put out something for free like that).

One reason I have never gotten into the whole smartphone gaming thing is because I like buttons, and game experiences with at least a bit of content. Not glorified Flash gaming that takes all of 2 minutes to play. (I don't have ADD where I need to be constantly fiddling around with my phone/gaming, and only really use my DS/PSP for longer train rides or flights)

I would say "Nintendo got served," but I'm sure an increasingly irrelevant card-manufacturer is the last thing on ChAIR's mind as they embrace modern game design principles, state-of-the-art hardware, and non-archaic sales and distribution channels.

These two things confuse me, why would anyone be less excited for Zelda because of Infinity Blade? And since when did DLC bring in the casuals?

I think many devs could learn things from small agile developments like Infinity Blade, not just Nintendo, and at the end of the day it (Infinity Blade) seems like little more than a tech demo wrapped around a casual game.

From that trailer I can see nothing NOTHING new. Link even makes the same sounds he did on the n64. The whole concept is so stale and tired its embarassing really.

Now you may say games like COD are stale too, but they only last 5 hours.

le sigh.  it's a combat trailer, its purpose being to show off wii motion + integration.  Link's voice actor has remained the same since the N64, so OF COURSE he sounds the same.  Like what the fuck, really man?  For real?  THAT'S what you're complaining about?

David Coombes, a platform research manager for Sony Computer Entertainment America, explained that although the NGP is equipped with a high-performance quad-core CPU theoretically capable of 2GHz, the clock speeds will have to be dialled down in order to preserve the PSP successor's battery life and prevent it from running too hot.

"Some people in the press have said wow, this thing... could be as powerful as PS3. Well, it's not going to run at 2GHz because the battery would last five minutes," he said. "And it would probably set fire to your pants."

Its near the end.

Yeah i know there is a gdc thread but this is an interesting topic.

So far I phones games i have seen are either ports of really old games(SMB2), something that can be done on the DS(Zenonia) or plain crap games(Infinity blade).  I am wondering if he has a point though about craftmanship.  The games dont really compare with console or even hand held games.  There is a rare few like ossian studios "the shadow sun" but i am wondering if they will turn a profit on it, i hope they dont die because of thie iphone investment as i loved the mysteries of westgate game for NWN2.  I personally think downloadable games are the way to go like on XBL and PSN but not like the model they have for iphones.
