"PSN data leak cost could top $24 billion - Report"

:o

Luckily for Sony tons of them are multiple but they also include PSP users.Billions and billions $$$ in any case.

Typical case of corporate stupidity.PS3 gets hacked wide open and they sue some kid and accomplish nothing.

Meanwhile PSN is left standing on quicksand(PS3) and some real criminals took advantage.

 :yuck

This will accelerate their PS4 plans greatly(if they have them). It will probably be named Beer or Juice to avoid embarrassment.

This is more like building an engine that has some fatal error and cramming it into everything in hope it might work reliably.

Either you move to new engine or fix the old one for everyone...both options are very costly

Reading comments around the web, what does Sony pay? I realize the xboxen have the generous MVP thing but Sony's loyalty program must be orders of magnitude better. Is it like GAP but with the expanse and generosity of goatse? Did that need an 'e' or 'ing hole' attached?

How do I get some of this sweet Sony lovin'? They already have my cc so I'm thinking it ain't money. If they want my body, well, they and who knows who else, has my address.

I don't even know why Sony would even bother to put out another PlayStation console at this point.  The PS3 should be their last console.  Things are already trending towards handhelds/smartphones anyway, and with the NGP or Xperia, Sony's ass is covered on that front.  Unlike a PS4, Sony won't have to dump billions of dollars into a money pit only to have the PS3 debacle recreated.  The PS3 should almost be rebranded as a deluxe Bluray player that plays games.  I don't see how any stockholder would be jumping for joy at a PS4, given that Sony's losses are over $5 billion now for the PS3, not to mention the numerous black eyes taken by anonymous internet losers.

Ffffuuuuu, just realised I can't even connect to my local network to stream shit from my mac on PS3 if it can connect to PSN.

My PS3 still detects my PC via the media server. You shouldn't have any problem. Internet connectivity still works (game updates, web browser, Netflix, media servers, etc.), its just the Playstation Network connection that is disabled.

lol I got mine.

It's quite strange seeing the mighty Playstation fall so far. I remember when Sony ruled the roost.

I guess the PS3 has just been a balls-up debacle of a money pit since it was launched.

Complete arrogance and complacency leading up to launch, interminable PR spin when machine flopped, many, many distinguished mentally-challenged business decisions, feature removal, at least 20 SKUs... list goes on. Stupid fucks

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/04/27/qa-1-for-playstation-network-and-qriocity-services/

Quote
Q: Are you working with law enforcement on this matter?

A: Yes, we are currently working with law enforcement on this matter as well as a recognized technology security firm to conduct a complete investigation. This malicious attack against our system and against our customers is a criminal act and we are proceeding aggressively to find those responsible.

Q: Was my personal data encrypted?

A: All of the data was protected, and access was restricted both physically and through the perimeter and security of the network. The entire credit card table was encrypted and we have no evidence that credit card data was taken. The personal data table, which is a separate data set, was not encrypted, but was, of course, behind a very sophisticated security system that was breached in a malicious attack.

Q: Was my credit card data taken?

A: While all credit card information stored in our systems is encrypted and there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained. Keep in mind, however that your credit card security code (sometimes called a CVC or CSC number) has not been obtained because we never requested it from anyone who has joined the PlayStation Network or Qriocity, and is therefore not stored anywhere in our system.

...

Q: When or how can I change my PlayStation Network password?

A: We are working on a new system software update that will require all users to change their password once PlayStation Network is restored. We will provide more details about the new update shortly.

Q: What steps is Sony taking to protect my personal data in the future?

A: We’ve taken several immediate steps to add protections for your personal data. First, we temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services and, second, we are enhancing security and strengthening our network infrastructure. Moving forward, we are initiating several measures that will significantly enhance all aspects of PlayStation Network’s security and your personal data, including moving our network infrastructure and data center to a new, more secure location, which is already underway. We will provide additional information on these measures shortly.
