Sfags like Bebpo definitely and desperately wish that once PSN goes up, everyone will cry in joy that it is up, and then everyone will forget this security breach almost right away.

Sfags will be sfags and they will try their hardest to downplay this massive fuckup once PSN is restored.  Even as the fines and class action lawsuit legal fees pile up to amounts that can't be ignored by the media, rational people, and more importantly, stockholders.  True to the Sony nature, I wonder if the new security will even be as good as what it was before the hack.

This will be very hard to sweep under the rug unlike MS RROD fiasco.ROOD was "just" another shitty kids toy breaking like shit, nothing to lose sleep over.Throw it into garbage and forget about it.

Personal data,CC details compromised,stolen?
That is serious business, people don't look kindly at that stuff and that is not something that you can throw out of the window and forget about it.

Politics will be very influential too. This is something that can potentially influence peoples credit ratings or make them spend less(not just on toys)...less money for governments=bad thing
There is also the need to punish someone as an example, confidential data is leaking everywhere.

If(when) PSN goes down again people will immediately blame hackers, criminals, data theft, etc no matter what the real reason is.Not fair, but that's life.

I just wonder who will get the boot, someone will...at least silently in few months

A new survey has found that one-fifth of PlayStation 3 owners in the U.S. are considering a switch to the Xbox 360 in the wake of the Great PlayStation Network Security Breach.

Someday, the news will stop being bad for Sony. That day is not today, however. This probably won't come as much of a surprise to anyone with even a passing familiarity with the still-ongoing PSN train wreck but it turns out that a significant number of PS3 owners are giving thought to crossing the aisle to sit with the other side.

Commissioned by CouponCodes4U "in order to assess gamer attitudes towards the affair," the survey encompassed 2132 people across the U.S., finding that 41 percent of them own PlayStation 3 consoles. 89 percent of those PS3 owners said they were concerned that their personal data may have been stolen in the breach; 65 percent said their trust in Sony and PSN had been "greatly affected"; and 21 percent claimed they were considering selling their PS3 units and switching to Microsoft's Xbox 360.

"As a video gamer myself, this data theft is especially worrying and I'm not altogether surprised that Sony are likely to see an exodus to console competitors," said CouponCodes4U Chairman Mark Pearson. "As hackers get more and more intelligent, companies simply have to keep up. Sony has a responsibility to its millions of customers to protect personal details and this data theft proves that they weren't capable of doing so. It's clear that gamers across the country have decided that this failing is enough to switch their allegiances to the console's closest rival."

There was nothing about the PS3 that could be considered visionary, unless you're talking about creating crippling debts, unnecessarily complicated hardware that produced inferior software to your cheaper competitor, slowly stripping away hardware features (which was already compromised to begin with) with software updates, and now massive security breaches: one that completely cracked open major disc media and one that caused tens of millions of people's identities to be compromised.

If that is the new definition, then yeah, I agree, Ken Kutaragi is a visionary.

Let's be honest, if the system said anything other than "Sony PlayStation" on the box, the system would have died in 2008.

My favorite part was that Kutaragi would spend billions building his own crazy chips (EE+GS, CELL) instead of using off-the-shelf technology, because everyone would want to use them in hollywood and outside the game industry.

"Mr. Kutaragi tried to interest Mr. Jobs in adopting the Cell chip, which is being developed by I.B.M. for use in the coming PlayStation 3, in exchange for access to certain Sony technologies. Mr. Jobs rejected the idea, telling Mr. Kutaragi that he was disappointed with the Cell design, which he believes will be even less effective than the PowerPC." <-- CLASSIC KUTARAGI

Sony's importance to the game industry was never especially a technological one at least the way fanboys will portray it. What Sony did was give a mainstream legitimacy to gaming at a time when the dominant players were Nintendo & Sega and videogames were viewed as strictly a child's hobby. It gave regular people more confidence in the product when they saw SONY on the label. That's why at the time Sony entering and dominating the videogame scene was important particularily from a cultural perspective.

The fact that they had deeper pockets than their competitors at the time also helped along with embracing CD/DVD gaming and entertainment while their compeititors stuck with cartridges or other weird disc based formats.

The PlayStation was also an easier to work with platform than the competition and generally stepped back to let third parties flourish vs. Nintendo's hostile attitude.  The PlayStation visionary genius was more marketing than technology.  If I recall, the PS2 was supposedly a nightmare to work for initially.  The idea of PlayStation being synonymous with tech wizardry is essentially BS.

Meanwhile attorneys general from 22 states are demanding answers from Sony over the breach, asking why it took the company so long to alert customers to the attack.

That group of state attorneys general are sharing information with one another about their individual inquiries, Susan Kinsman, communications director for the Connecticut Office of the Attorney General told Kotaku.

The collection of attorneys general have also contacted the Federal Trade Commission to see if they have launched their own federal investigation, she said.
