What I saw had lots of awesome wow moments and it looked like there'd be quite a few ways to get through each scenario. What are the complaints and where are they coming from?

I can definitely understand those complaints. I am hoping that the scripted appearance was due to the fact that it was a highly controlled E3 demo.

The end of the demo where he dresses as a cop and melts into a HUGE crowd made me splooge, is any footage of that online?

Some gamers have a hard time understanding that more and more developers are starting to have a voice, and have something to "tell". Even if its a balls to the wall action story.

Want a sandbox with no scripting, free form, 0 linearity in the story? Live life.

I've only played the last Hitman game but I really enjoyed it.  As long as they don't turn this into another sandbox game I'm interested.

Don't know, but it works. I'm more hyped for Eidos' upcoming titles than I've been for a while. Though a lot of that is also due to the fact that it seems Eidos has been getting their stuff together proper one after another. I wonder if it can be attributed to S-E, or they just got Eidos at the perfect time, right when they were ready to shine.

I think its six of one, a half-dozen of the other.

SE bought out the company right as Arkham Asylum was being released, while IO, Crystal Dynamics, and the still new Eidos Montreal were still reading their now fallow crop.  Its questionable if Eidos could have continued to survive on their own as so many other similar publishers have gone under (Midway), merged (Namco Bandai, Koei Tecmo) or are now hurting badly (Atari, THQ, etc.).

I think Square Enix is managing them well and the former Eidos is using their now lax deadlines to polish the hell out of whatever they're making.  Eidos on its own would have had to rush their games out to stay afloat, SE can afford to give them time to cook.  At least that's my thinking.

Oh, and Hitman looks fuckawsome.

I suspect the deadlines from S-E are less lax than you think. It's more likely that Crystal Dynamics and Eidos peeps are hitting their stride on games with which they are now well-familiar.

uh, so that's nothing like the other Hitman games.

it's part splinter cell conviction, part something else entirely, with inception horns.  It could still be cool

Ya I think this game is gonna turn out okay. I think the illusion of it being dumbed down is marketing's work.

Ya this is cool. I think I'll pick this up during a Steam sale, Square Enix game prices tend to plummet pretty quickly

finally got the game to work correctly and played to the second mission, king of chinatown.

obvs its still in the beginning stages. that mission seemed to be OK but a bit simple. I was impressed by the amount of characters on screen even tho its basically smoke and mirrors. grafix are really nice. texture quality reminds me a lot of Witcher 2.

spoiler for mission 2:

I'm about 6 hours in.

The game is very well put together. All the challenges, how they surface that information, the overall design.

The graphics are amazing. This may very well trump Witcher 2 in texture quality. Legit surprised about that.

Gameplay wise,
So far I'm enjoying the Hitman elements (you have a target, finding out ways to eliminate them). They aren't as interesting as the ones from Blood Money and also there are too few in the game so far. But they are still fun and worth going back and redoing for the various challenges. I like what they did with the disguises, how people wearing the same disguise become suspicious if you get too close (i don't remember if that was in the last Hitman, tbh).

The game stumbles when it presents linear or mostly linear stealth sections where your only goal is to get to an exit while being undetected. These areas feel too abbreviated and the design of the level is much simpler than most other stealth based games. So it's a bit boring and not very challenging.

I'm enjoying it but it's not blowing me away. Too much modern design choices that get in the way of what makes Hitman fun, overly elaborate Hitman scenarios and when they have to tackle one of those it's never as interesting as it could be.

I just realized there are 20 levels and i'm on 9. I thought I was basically near the very end.

Of course the final levels could be mad short and scripted. They probably are....

Shaving Lenny is currently the best level in the game.

Very early in but game sees pretty bad ass so far. Hitman has always been like a version of Splinter Cell I actually like versus the actual Splinter Cell which I've never especially liked.

Finished the game. Took 18 hours which is way longer than I expected. Admittedly it's probably because I kept restarting whenever I got caught or something didnt go quite right.

My overall opinion hasn't changed much. There are moments where the game retains the awesome shit from Blood Money but there's too many generic stealth missions that get a little tedious. Graphics are utterly amazing and it's got a super slick design (menus and stuff). It's fun but it won't leave a long lasting impression.

I blew through it last week and clocked in about 16 hours after replaying a few of the levels to try a more stealthy approach (I originally just blasted through the levels, killing everyone).

Overall impression is that it's a very fun game. Gunning people down in this one is extremely satisfying, not to sound like a psycho or anything, but it is. Graphics are amazing, and (especially in the Chinatown level, imo) they do a decent job of setting the mood. Unless I'm mistaken, the composer was changed for this one but it's pretty darn good with what direction they decided to go in. Still, most of the levels in Absolution lacked the punch most of the levels in Blood Money had.

Other than that I agree with fistfulofmetal about the lack of variety in how to eliminate targets. There's usually like two or three ways to kill someone in Absolution versus the four or five in Blood Money. Generally, they aren't as interesting as well (i.e poison, falling light fixture, sleeping pills). I'm sure the replayability of Absolution isn't going to be harmed too much from this due to the whole Contracts mode, but it is just plain disappointing for a Hitman fan.
