I'm loving the Vita.

I got Netflix and watched an entire episode of Miami Vice on it.  The quality of the video and sound is impressive and after playing around with the app a bit, it is every bit as functional as the PS3 version of Netflix, which is good since it is probably my favorite version that I have.  Played some more Lumines and Hot Shots Golf. Then I browsed the PS Store in its entirety and mentally tallied up the few dozen games I want to play on it.

I'm not going to post updates all of the time of what I did but I'm still very impressed.  The Vita truly feels like a quality handheld (compared to the Fisher Price feel of my 3DS XL) and I hope to spend a lot of time playing it.

Leader of the Ninja Dog Clan presents boobie fighting game on Vita:

There's people bitching about it being another port on Vita, but given this thing's sales you cannot complain assuming it's a well done port.

I would be happy if the Vita became a port machine...or rather, became a portable PS3 with cross-play/buy versions of everything released.  $60 for the same game on two platforms is awesome.

Definitely getting DOA5 on it; hoping that they follow Capcom and Sony's leads and make the game have online cross-play with the PS3 version, however the "Plus" may mean more real content like additional characters and such.

meh.  even though it's the best in the series, which I loved last gen, I just kinda lost interest after 20 hours or so.

but i'll prob buy it when it's cheap enough.  Team Ninja Dog's going nuts on the Vita!

Ports on a handheld are great if you have original games too; that was the case with the GBA.  But Vita is mostly only getting ports.

That said, the one game I want for the 3DS is that port of Space Harrier.  yay ports  :-\

And I wouldn't mind a port of VF4 Evo with portable kumite mode.  Between Vita, PSP, PS1, and NeoGeo games, there's an entry in every major fighting series except Virtua Fighter.  Helps that the Vita has a great d-pad.

Finished Uncharted GA.

+ The graphics are really nice
+ Good voice acting

- No enemy variety. There's a guy with a gun, a guy with a shotgun, a guy with a gatling gun, and a guy with a sniper rifle. That's about it.
- Platforming is completely automated (it prevents you from making any wrong moves), even more so if you use the touchscreen.
- The framerate gets really bad on several occasions.
- The "puzzles" require no thought.
- The story consists of nothing but tired cliches, making it a bore.
- The two boss fights (if you can call them that) are made of QTEs where you swipe arrows that appear on the screen.
- Rubbing the screen to dust off key items is kinda annoying.

= The combat isn't bad, but there's nothing remarkable about it either. Completely run of the mill.
= Sony Bend definitely made an Uncharted game. Good job, I guess.

In short: the game sucks. At least it was free.

I really don't get the trolls on the vita

Soul Sacrifice is too little too late/lol like monster hunter/ugh bad art/niche/a desperate punt/not original enough etc etc etc

I have no idea what the fuck Sony can do other than somehow find the next amazing big thing game -just like that- and anything else is "lol - no" from people who don't actually care or want a Vita anyways.

I mean - SS might suck giant donkey cocks, but the whole negativity is becomng hiliarous - and as for people taking the "i don't want to get any games on the Vita because it looks like it's doomed" ?!?!? What the fucking fuck?

sorry dc, but keiji inafune can suck a dick.  i want soul sacrifice to crash and burn, and that has nothing to do with vita and everything to do with inafune being the game industry person i'd most like to pop in the nose.  that sony is down to building a relaunch around whatever turd he's coiling out this time is unfortunate for them, and i'll feel bad for them when he throws them right the fuck under the bus after it underperforms.

i'd also like to point out that i can pretty easily madlibs your post into a wiiutard's defence of that flaming wreck, and y'all oughta feel a deep burning shame about that

I don't feel any shame - the fact that both are in the same boat is FUN.

And I agree there's a good amount of WiiU trolling / hypocrisy going on - and I loves it (rubs tatties)

I really don't think Inafune has much to do this Soul Sacrifice. The producers are from SCE, and the development is at MarvelousAQL. I think Sony are using him for a Capcom (and therefore Monster Hunter) link.

Uncharted 2 was awesome, but since I'm not invested in the story, a sequel is the exact same gameplay in a different wrapper to me.

Nintendo is under heavy barrage of fire after Wii U flopped out of the gate so ninfags need some easy target to attack ASAP.

Name me one easier target than Vita.

Pretty much.

When some of them started to compare the shitty ports WiiU got to the vita games and saying they aren't as bad i was like "really? really".

So just like Kojima in regards to Castlevania: Lord of Shadows?

Yeah, the Nintendo fanboys comparing Wii U ports to Vita ports and acting as though that's an accomplishment just shows how much of a farce Wii U is. Vita's a handheld, the expectations for it are completely different than those of a home console. Especially since Vita is considerably more powerful than the last generation of handheld consoles. Not the case for Wii U.

As for Kojima linked with Castlevania, I'd agree with that comparison. Inafune seems to be really busy so I find it hard to imagine he's doing much on this project.

Eh, I genuinely had a really good time with it after the first 1/3rd.  But I'm not going to argue against that Uncharted at the end of the day is still just Uncharted.  If you don't like the cover shooting and melee punching combat of Uncharted, it's not going to be any different here.  I actually really dig the combat as it's pretty intense and challenging with just enough open ended gameplay that most of the time you can feel like it was "your way" of winning the fight that got you through.  The only Uncharted where I dislike the combat is U3 and that's because some of the enemy types are terrible and area setups and bullshit trial & error frustrating.

The exploration side is the same as the other games in the series.  Meaning very little freedom, but they do a good job of making the linear auto-platforming progression feel like actual Indiana Jones exploring.  I think GA is only below U2 in this respect.  There's a lot of neat locations you climb/explore through.

Honestly it sucks that Uncharted GA starts off pretty janky and remains that way until you get out of the first location 2-3 hours in.  It doesn't give off the best impression and you have to be a fan of the series or just a fan of playing mediocre games to get yourself past that point.

Uncharted seems alright so far (only on chapter 7 of ??).  It's reminding me more of Uncharted 1 than 2 or 3.  Actually, I'd say it's to Uncharted 1 as Uncharted 3 is to Uncharted 2.  Similar but inferior.  Chapters 1 to 5 or for however long you were just following people in the jungle was really boring.  Again, Uncharted 1-ish.

Everything's shimmering.  The new location is a bit better than the jungle but it's disappointing that as impressive as the visuals should be, the muddy image quality ruins it.

Worst part is just the general gunplay and how unsatisfying it feels.  Again, back to Uncharted 1.  Enemies soak up bullets, aiming is funky, and there's no tell that you're hit the enemy.  Really odd since Bend's shooters on the PSP all had satisfying weaponry.  That, and all the dumb gimmicky Vita features shoehorned in.

It's funny when the tutorials pop up and say:

Grope the back of the system to climb the rope -or- draw a line up it on the screen -or- just move the analog stick
Tilt the system to reach towards a ledge - or- just move the analog stick
Cradle the system back and forth to swing on the rope -or- just move the analog stick

gosh the gimmicks in uncharted are asinine

I was stuck at this part because apparently no light I have is bright enough for this parchment paper.  I held it to my lamp, removed the shade from the lamp to get raw light, used my iphone flash led, went into my bathroom that's incredibly bright.  It got up to 83% and stopped.  I finally went into the utility room for a flashlight to get past it.  I felt like I was playing Boktai again.

And this is for a portable game.  Did they expect people to do this on the bus?

Quote
The studio (Vicarious Visions) was also working on a Vita version of Call of Duty: Black Ops II before that project, which my source said was flawed, was moved to another studio.

From the same thread
Quote
What i've heard from folks (two, to be exact) inside sony is similar but it's more like...

*Activision tried to scale down the COD engine to fit on the vita, something that Sony said wasn't a good idea but activision did anyway. From what I hear they worked on it for 18 months(!).

*It didn't work.

*Sony sent over Nihilistic to start from scratch using the engine they just created for resistance.

*They created the entire game from the middle of May to the middle of October.

*The reason it *had* to come out this year was because the contract the two (sony and activision) signed stipulated that it would come out at this time and sony paid 12 million in marketing as part of this contract. Basically, it sounds like its a clusterfuck to change a release date when there is a contract between two huge entities like this.

*Ive also heard from multiple people that it was 100% activision's call to charge $50.

I'm really enjoying Hot Shots Golf 6.  I think the last time I played an HSG game was either 4 for the PS2 or the original Open Tee on PSP.  Great graphics, fun gameplay, and it seems like I got the hang of banging out good shots.  This is a great game to play a couple rounds of golf and then put it away for the night, which is what I've been doing.

Also it appears I ignored an Amazon e-mail where they gave me a code for a free copy of Sony Smash Bros.  Do I dare waste my memory card downloading that piece of crap?

I feel like most complaints I have about Uncharted vita are because the Vita.  The gimmicks shame most DS software except zelda spirit tracks.  I'm guessing the Vita doesn't have a microphone? I never had to blow on the thing.

There's a point where you're worried when you see beams.  You know it's going to do a balancing thing where you tilt the system.  Sometimes it messes with you and doesn't start until the end of the beam.  And at random times you're thrown into a menu to do jigsaw puzzles.  Not an exaggeration.  There's no transition even.  It's from walking, to puzzle, and when you finish Drake goes "it's senor unrelatedtotheplot's left boot."

I don't know if it or Uncharted 3 is worse.  I just know that I like Uncharted 1 and especially Uncharted 2 so much more.  Uncharted's already in that weird place for me where I don't think I want another one.

Ogle the girls in 3D and touch their naughty bits on Vita.

From Tecmo's Facebook page.

Quote
DEAD OR ALIVE 5 PLUS takes the signature fighting style of the popular DOA series along with stunning graphics and new martial arts techniques of the recent console release, and brings it to the Vita with all-new system-specific features.

In DEAD OR ALIVE 5 PLUS, players will take on the roles of the cast of DEAD OR ALIVE fighters in an intense, action-packed brawler set in visually striking locations from around the world. The famed DOA hand-to-hand combat returns, supported by 3D stages that update the series’ characteristic style with a fresh look and feel.

Stages in DEAD OR ALIVE 5 PLUS are more than spectacular visual backdrops, instead playing to a fighter’s strengths. As a fight progresses, the backdrop will change and interact with players. Skilled fighters will be able to utilize these dynamic stages to pit their opponents against fresh obstacles to create a new fighting experience. This fusion of combat and dynamically changing backdrops is the formula for the evolution of fighting games as “Fighting Entertainment.”

With a sensual yet realistic style, DEAD OR ALIVE 5 PLUS characters are rendered in incredibly lifelike detail. Innovative touch controls bring a completely new experience to fighting games. Simple taps, swipes and pinches to your opponent trigger a variety of devastating moves. Using the Vita’s motion sensor, you can play vertically for a first-person, full-screen view of your opponent. These intuitive new controls are only possible with the PS Vita’s touchscreen and rear touch pad.

Both novice and expert players will find even more ways to up their game with DEAD OR ALIVE 5 PLUS. New modes focused just on training offer tutorials on game basics, and a new display of advanced frame data offers over twice as much the amount of information on each move than the previous version. Tournament players will spend hours analyzing the best moves for their fights.

Gather your friends and take the fight inside, outside or anywhere. DEAD OR ALIVE 5 PLUS takes the ultimate in Fighting Entertainment on the go, thanks to the Vita's ad hoc and infrastructure network features.

Got a score of 321,000 points in my second attempt at Lumines :rock

I played some Sony Smash Bros. and beat the single player mode with two characters (Kratos and Parappa) This game isn't half bad.  The characters available have me going ??? but we all know about that.  Anyway, the gameplay is pretty much what a Smash Bros. clone would play like.  Once you build up your bar to the first level, you have a blue glow around you.  It's pretty easy to set up a special attack (not sure if that is the official name but that is what I'm calling it), you just hit the R trigger and see if some sucker is in the window of the attack.  If you hit them with the special attack, they automatically lose one life as would you if an opponent hit you with a special attack.  There are a few stages, all of them based off of PlayStation properties.  I'm not really nostalgic for these at all so I wasn't all shocked and surprised to play in a level based on Locoroco.  Much like Smash, the stages are pretty dynamic and will change mid-fight.  The boss stage consists of a strange polygonal head; I don't know if this thing existed in something else in the past but it's pretty easy.

I'm probably going to continue to play and work my way through the characters.  It's a fun little game but I wouldn't spend a whole lot of money on it.  Just wait until you can get it for $10 (either this version or the PS3 version).

The boss is Polygon Man, who was a pre-PS1 launch marketing mascot SCEA made up. Apparently Kutaragi hated the design because it used a form of rendering that he thought made the PS1 look weak. :lol

Ok.  Polygon Man will sometimes say "You are not ready."  I wonder if its related to the early PS1 days.

Yes, it's a reference to pre-launch marketing.

My opinion on Sony Smash Bros is that the roster is still wack, the fanservice is lacking, and the presentation is poor but the fundamental gameplay mechanics of the game are pretty good. It's a shame that we won't be getting a sequel to where the developer could fix those issues.
