Anyone got any invites?  :P

Seriously though, the more I read up on it, the better it sounds. The 'circles' idea is what really intrigues me. It looks like(if I'm understanding correctly) that you can keep friends, family, and coworker conversations separate a lot easier. This is a deal breaker for me.

'Huddle' also sounds great for group text messages.

I'm not saying it is a facebook killer, but I would love to give this a try.

I signed up a couple places so if I get one, I will offer 10 of them to EB folk who want one. I think you get 15 invites once you are in.

I already blocked certain Family members from seeing my wall posts 'cause I hate hearing shit through the grapevine about what I posted . Circles does sound cool as far as managing that.

Also, thanks Cajole for the invite!

It's pretty awesome.

Hangouts is an awesome concept. But I only have a webcam on my netbook, need to get one for my desktop for it to really be useful for me. Sparks needs a lot of work, or an "Add from RSS" option. Circles is hugely promising to me, especially as an amateur photographer. Oh and the photo part of Google+ is damn slick.

Google Maps, Calendar, and Gmail (as a theme) both got design refreshes today that line up with the design language in Google+, and both look pretty cool, especially Calendar which before now looked outdated as hell. Google Docs needs a new design the most though, it's like the last Google site to not even use the new logo. And the spacing is all out of whack.

Photos being linked to Googles photo service is awesome considering how you can actually click GIFs and they'll actually animate.

The reality is that users won’t have the option of not using Google Plus.

Last I checked, I can "delete" my Google+ profile whenever I please.

What they meant is users won't have to opt-in. Which I still kind of don't buy. You need a Google account to make it work, and unfortunately most people use Google without having one.

Buzz was pretty great from a technological standpoint. I mean you can't argue otherwise if you dig Google+, because the stream from Google+ basically is Buzz. Works the exact same way. Muting posts, attaching links, uploading photos, commenting, editing, etc. are all from Buzz. Actually Google+ sharing is sort of a gimped Buzz because Buzz would let you import a bunch of posts from other services like Twitter, Flickr, etc. The closest Google+ gets is Picasa uploads, and it only does it for uploads from within Google+ itself.

It's a shame the privacy fiasco shot Buzz's kneecaps clean off, though. It was a lovely service to use. I myself had been using it from last summer until Google+ launched, it was pretty awesome if you followed the right people. But with these kind of sites, people they don't want to go out and find interesting people, they want all their friends they already know to find them. So it's sort of an inherent laziness, too. IMO the worst part about Buzz, technologically, was that you could only post from within Gmail. That severely hamstrung it after the privacy fiasco. Posts could be viewed outside of Gmail, and you could even comment on and like them. But you couldn't post from outside Gmail without a third-party client. And that is lame.

Yeah it was alright, I thought it was pretty unintuitive and badly designed personally and it just defaulted to integrating with other google services I didn't want to integrate like posting banal status changes in google chat  >:( I was really into google wave though, I'll probably use G+ quite a bit since I use google stuff to communicate with (nerdy) uni/work friends and acquaintances, and I usually talk to them online more than anybody I usually hang out with irl who I'm friends with on FB.

I actually never really got that much into Wave. I'd check it every month or so, but it never really served a purpose. Technologically speaking it was pretty amazing and ambitious, and thankfully the best parts like real-time editing were added to other Google apps like Docs. But it never really did anything for me, and felt very heavy (the opposite of every single other Google site, including Google+ and Google Docs) and performed somewhat bad, and layout-wise it was a mess. Even waves themselves were a clusterfuck. Trying to follow the GAF waves was an exercise in getting my eyes sodomized, with pictures, embedded content, polls, indenting and nesting, font colors and sizes and... ugh. Makes me shiver. I'm glad for the technology it delivered, but I'm also glad it's gone and that the employees who worked on it are doing more relevant things.

This was my first thought as well. Wave -- I never even used it, but it seemed like it would have been great for running a distributed tabletop RPG.

Google+ is a better Facebook and a better Tumblr mixed into one, with a little Twitter sprinkled on top, and with Buzz acting like the hot fudge at the bottom.

all my programmer friends are jumping aboard, so it'd basically be a special-purpose facebook for the tech nerd circles I'm in, sort of like how myspace stuck around for a while as a special-purpose site for local bands/music scenes before it went completely under. I'd post all my nerdy stuff there and post the (relatively)non-nerdy stuff on facebook. I haven't gotten an invite though.  :-\

Invites are up for me.

Besides that, they did some neat changes. The black bar follows you on the page. I didn't think I would like that (I usually hate fixed anything) but I think the black-ness makes it usually unnoticeable, until you want it.

Also, the amount of unread notifications shows up in the favicon, which is neat. Unfortunately the number seems to be see-through, so it's hard to read.

They also put out a video about businesses on Google+.
