Taking advantage of Funimation's 14 day trial by watching Nichijou. This show is dumb as hell. :lol

I added some other short shows to my queue that aren't on any other services, but I doubt that I'll be able to get to them all.

It's an original series, but it's got most of the crew returning from the Inuyasha series [and Rumiko Takahashi did the character designs].

...so a Dragon Ball GT/Eureka 7 AO situation :social2

Takahashi isn't even the character designer, apparently.  She is "overseeing" the designs.  Can we get them to just do more Urusei Yatsura or Ranma instead, then?

I was wondering what happened to Rin-Ne, but I see that already ended a couple of years ago, and now she has a new series, Mao, that is getting an anime version soon.  The description makes it sound a bit like Demon Slayer fused with Inu-Yasha.

Nichijou isn't the type of show that I can binge because of how random it is even within one episode, so I started Prison School on my 18 year old nephew's suggestion. I can't help but wonder how old was he when he watched this. :lol

Recommend dropping it and reading the manga instead.  Then check out the author's current, way more fucked-up series, Raw Hero!

If you're good with getting the same story twice, sure.  It sucks that the anime only got one season, but the story is pretty long and there's no way it would have finished in that form anyway.

I've been watching Rage of Bahamut: Genesis, a 13 episode show, and one of them is a recap episode. Why?!

Also the second season (Virgin Soul) is on amazon prime, while the first is on Hulu. And Funimation's streaming service only has the first 3 episodes of s1 available. The streaming wars are fucking dumb.

The quality of the second season is just as good?

Finished Prison School yesterday btw and picked up the manga from where the anime ends. I'm surprised that it never get another season.

I can't believe I read a forced sissification superhero manga and liked it.

it was pretty great, had awesome art like always and some really funny/dirty shit in it. Feel a little worried it's falling into the devil blues/prison school trap of spinning the wheels for endless chapters (feel like until the last one the few "romcom" "misunderstanding" chapters were like on a loop of the same plot points.) disappointed by how weaksauce pigtails blackmail game was but I guess that's part of the joke? lol

Watching Slam Dunk in between other animes.

Really like it so far. There is a charm to old anime that somehow seems to be lost to me in more recent times. Everything seems so gritty by comparison in modern anime.

It's not another isekai anime, thankfully.
Quote
In 2014, Akira Natsume seems to almost have a phobia of electrical devices while also being very good at diagnosing them. He resolves to change himself for the better and get a girlfriend like his older brother did. But then, Akira suddenly dies in an accident. 16 years later a special policewoman and her android partner retrieve and activate a highly advanced AI and superweapon called EX-ARM and put it into full control of their ship as a last resort. Turns out the AI is actually just Akira's brain!

The first eight chapters of the manga have been fan-translated.  Found out it's a remake of an earlier manga called "EX-Vita," but not sure if that ever got translated.  I checked it out:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Most of the first chapter is about the protagonist just being a goofy high schooler who has no social life because he claims to be bad with electronics, but then he is able to diagnose and "fix" his brother's girlfriend's phone just by touching it.   ???  He gets weak from doing this, like he's syncing up with it and it's an information overload.

-It shows someone driving the truck that hits him, but then doesn't touch on this.

-He wakes up in a radically-changed future where there's mecha and people running around Tokyo with guns and all that kind of shit.  He's also just a brain in a suitcase.  We then get introduced to more characters, mostly female, and lots of pantsu~.  It's mostly serious but switches to goofy shonen-style 'uguu' shit here and there.
[close]

-The main character can be hooked into other systems and control them.  These become his body.  So he gets to control a giant tanker with guns and then in what appears to be a recurring thing, gets to sync up with and control a female android body (the half-naked GITS rip-off white haired chick).  Am wondering if the artwork shown in the trailer of a male mecha-suit looking thing ends up being a body he uses.

I like it so will check the anime out.

I've only seen Spirited Away and Mononoke as well (caught Mononoke two years ago, it fucking rules.)

Excited by the catalog on HBO Max, always wanted to go through Ghibli's stuff but it's been a bitch to do in the age of streaming (until now.)

Watched this last night- the sound was off.  All the music is much louder than the dialogue.   :-\  Was a fun watch regardless.  I think I've only seen like one episode of City Hunter and the Jackie Chan movie (lol), but it was filled with music from the older shows and the Cat's Eye sisters make an appearance.

A Whisker Away - June 18, Netflix

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Whisker_Away

Seems very much up my alley. I love cats. I love crying. I love tales of people who can't seem to fit in.

And hey it's directed by Junichi Sato who is my man. I adore the ARIA series so so much. Not sure if people in this thread care about that. But he is also known for directing the first season of Sailor Moon and some of the second. I have never watched SM though.
